Chapter 20-The Awakening of The Forge

The cataclysm didn’t arrive with a countdown or a whisper—it erupted. Across the globe, the crimson sky deepened, bathing every corner of Earth in an ominous red glow. The air was heavy with an unearthly hum that sent shivers through every living thing. In an instant, the world as humanity had known it was irreversibly changed.

At The Forge, the hum turned into a deafening vibration that shook the walls, rattled tools off shelves, and sent everyone to the ground. The entire settlement was bathed in the eerie crimson light seeping through every crack and crevice. Outside, the ground splintered as glowing fissures erupted across Silver Rock, spewing sulfuric smoke and waves of energy that rippled through the air like heat mirages.

Inside The Forge, Ethan and his group fell unconscious, succumbing to a force they couldn’t resist. It wasn’t a natural sleep but a cosmic one—an ancient energy reshaping the very essence of humanity. Their bodies lay still as a profound transformation began within.

Ethan’s transformation was unlike anything humanity had ever known. When he awoke, the world looked both familiar and alien. Time itself seemed to flow differently, the edges of reality fraying and shifting in his vision. He sat up, his body buzzing with power, his mind flooded with knowledge that wasn’t his—yet felt intrinsic.

Ethan had awakened to the power of space and time, a combination that made him a force of unparalleled destruction and creation

* * Temporal Acceleration: Ethan could speed up time around himself or others, making his movements so fast that enemies appeared frozen.

* Temporal Rewind: With concentration, he could reverse minor events—undoing injuries, repairing objects, or erasing mistakes in combat.

* Time Freeze: Ethan could halt time entirely within a certain radius, creating a frozen battlefield where only he could move.

* Spatial Control:

* Teleportation: Ethan could instantly move across distances, phasing through walls or appearing behind enemies.

* Spatial Distortion: He could bend space to create barriers, portals, or traps that crushed or disoriented enemies.

* Singularities: Ethan could summon miniature black holes, pulling creatures into an imploding vortex that left nothing but ash.

* His new abilities were seamlessly integrated with his fighting style. His energy blade now resonated with the fabric of time and space, cutting through reality itself.

As Ethan stepped into the main hall, he found the others awakening, each visibly altered by the cataclysm.

* Gravity Manipulation: Dakota could control the gravitational field around him, increasing it to crush enemies or decreasing it to leap incredible distances. His crowbar now pulsed with gravitational energy, each swing creating shockwaves that pulverized anything in its path.

* Immovable Force: Dakota could anchor himself to the ground, making him nearly impossible to move or knock down.

* Gravitational Slam: By leaping into the air and manipulating gravity, Dakota could land with devastating force, creating craters and obliterating enemies in the vicinity.

* Core Mastery: Mason could directly manipulate core energy, shaping it into weapons, shields, or constructs. He crafted glowing plasma hammers, floating shields, and drones that followed his commands.

* Energy Amplification: By tapping into the core grid of The Forge, Mason could enhance the entire settlement’s defenses, making the walls nearly indestructible.

* Instant Engineering: Mason’s mind worked at lightning speed, allowing him to create complex machines and weapons in moments.

* Enhanced Perception: Kyle’s vision extended far beyond normal limits, allowing him to track and target enemies from miles away.

* Explosive Precision: His core-infused bolts now created devastating explosions on impact, capable of taking down groups of enemies or massive creatures.

* Stealth and Speed: Kyle could blur his movements, making himself nearly invisible as he moved across the battlefield.

* The cataclysm hadn’t just changed humanity—it had altered the entire ecosystem. New horrors emerged in the wake of the event, their grotesque forms defying the laws of biology and physics.

The dead now walked, their bodies warped and glowing faintly with core energy. They moved with terrifying speed and intelligence, hunting in packs.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

Some of the risen were massive and grotesque, with elongated limbs, bulging muscles, or grotesque new appendages that made them even deadlier.

* The skies boiled with crimson clouds, unleashing storms of toxic rain and lightning that could vaporize anything they struck.

* The glowing cracks in the ground had become alive, spreading and consuming anything they touched.

The Forge’s alarms blared as a massive horde of creatures—both risen and mutated—descended upon the outer wall. The group scrambled to their stations, their newfound powers surging to the forefront.

Ethan teleported onto the outer wall, his energy blade humming with power. As the horde surged forward, he raised his hand, freezing time around the front line of attackers. The creatures froze mid-charge, their snarls and roars silenced.

Ethan moved through the frozen battlefield with precision, slicing through the risen and leaving their corpses crumpling to the ground as time resumed. He summoned a singularity in the middle of the horde, watching as dozens of creatures were pulled into the imploding vortex, their bodies shredded into ash.

Dakota stood at the main gate, his crowbar glowing with gravitational energy. A group of massive, mutated wolves charged toward him, their claws glinting in the red light. Dakota swung his weapon in a wide arc, creating a shockwave that sent the creatures flying. He raised his hand, increasing gravity around a cluster of zombies, crushing them into a bloody pulp.

“Come on!” Dakota roared, slamming his crowbar into the ground and creating a crater that obliterated another wave.

Mason activated the plasma grid, sending waves of energy along the walls that fried anything that touched them. With a flick of his wrist, he created floating plasma turrets that rained energy blasts onto the battlefield.

He shouted into the comms, “Outer defenses holding, but I’m rerouting power to the turrets—keep them off the walls!”

From his perch atop a defensive tower, Kyle picked off enemies with deadly precision. Each bolt exploded on impact, taking out clusters of risen with every shot. When a massive, winged creature approached, Kyle aimed carefully, his enhanced vision tracking its weak point. The bolt struck true, and the creature exploded in a fiery burst.

As the last creature fell, The Forge stood tall, its walls scorched but intact. The group gathered in the main hall, their faces a mix of exhaustion and grim determination.

“This is just the beginning,” Ethan said, his voice calm but firm. “We’ve been given these powers for a reason. Whatever’s coming, we’re going to face it—and we’re going to win.”

The others nodded, their resolve unshaken. Outside, the crimson sky pulsed ominously, heralding the next phase of the cataclysm.
