Just a note for those who might wonder, i will be working with different characters depending on events. Ex: while mining Julius POV might happen, if fighting breaks out Basil, Felix, Jessica, Eral and Noah’s dad might appear that is just to keep those who might complain.
I am hoping for feedback (both good and bad) to help me make my work better any comments like that would help
And here Wingsolution is the second part of your Bday presents
***
After the base was back to working conditions we gathered the bases original workers.
Noah: alright now as you see we repaired have started repairing the base. You wanted to leave because it was hell and most things were broken now, with life support and protection what do you say about helping now.
There was lots of talking among themselves then one of the older men sat up.
Prisoner: we will work but you should know we are miners not fighters or techs; the best we can offer is mining the iron for you and doing our own repair to mining gear.
Noah: that is enough we don’t expect you to do more than that after hearing what happened here. We would like to ask a few of you to work with our Botanist and Biologists to make farms on the outer edges of the base.
They nod and I look at my men and nod for them to release the workers. After a few minutes they are all released and they take their helmets off for what may be the first time in years. Simply taking it off seems to give them new life. They all take deep breathes of the fresh air in the base. The man who talked for the rest was an old man messy long grey hair from not being able to cut it all these years. He walks over and puts his hand out.
Worker: names Julius Black, I’m one of the foremen that used to manage the mining operations.
Noah: I’m Noah, like you might have guessed I’m the captain of this crew.
Julius: and the new owner of this base.
You have been given command over the first Base on Kelha II
Owning this base will contribute greatly to the accomplishment of your mission
I just smiled at him and at the message.
Noah: I want you to continue as foremen, the men trust you more than me so it’s better that way.
Julius: right so do we get working already?
Noah: no first its late already, two we need to eat and third we need production in food first.
Julius: to bad there is little water on this planet.
Noah: isn’t there ground water?
Julius: we looked but in this area there is little of that and those rock monsters out in the desert keep us from searching.
I nod slowly as I realize the real problem we are now facing. Getting the base running was just the start of our worries, getting the radio probably just as hard since the planet and asteroid field interfere but water is even harder to get with us getting attacked we can even go search.
Noah: we can worry about this later, we still need to get radio contact with the station, the Golems as we the rock monsters, we pushed them out of the asteroid field so now they have access as well, we can have them send mined ice from the asteroid field.
He smiles weakly and nods just the same to my words.
For the next few hours we enjoy some food, though this will be the last big meal until we can get food growing or supplies coming so rationing will be happening from tomorrow on.
After the meal I had everyone get sleep because it would get hard starting tomorrow.
In the morning i gathered everyone and told them about the rationing of food. My crew kind of expected it and so did the workers.
Noah: ok first order of business the botanist are to get to work making sprouts it will ensure a better survival rate for some plants in unfamiliar soil like this. We got some seeds from the station so search through them and find fruit plants and trees that use little water. Before planting make some greenhouses first and start cultivating the plants to gain more seeds so we don’t end up squandering what few seeds we have. Now Gunner and Ernest I’m sure you noticed but I'll say it anyway this place doesn’t have a processor for metals nor any equipment to make things out of it, besides the workshop in carrier, we need more machines to process the ores since we aren’t going to send it into space.
Ernest: what do you want us to do?
Noah: scan the smelter and make blue prints of it then find an empty chamber in the cave complex and build a few. Leave manufacturing to the workshop for now later on, we can build proper workshops off ship. Any more questions...none good let’s get to work, miners Julius is foremen i want you to start by repairing any and all mining equipment, i saw mining tanks that were taken apart get mechanic and tech support and get those running.
Thanks to your charisma your crew has gain more respect for you and will work with high moral for a while.
+3 Leadership and charisma
Due to your careful planning on what actions to take to begin rebuilding you have gained greater respect from the workers and they will work harder.
+3 intelligence
+3 wisdom
Noah: "wow it’s been so long since i got stat bonus i guess planning so much worked out well"
When i finished the crew and workers all spread out and began making groups. I saw the scientists head off with worker droids towards the desert inside the shield. Miners grouped up with mechanics and techs and headed into warehouses with some repair and worker bots and all the remaining soldiers and combat droids grouped in small squads and began patrolling the base. All in all they were following orders at a good pace.
The next week was met with lots of construction. First, four greenhouses 6 meter tall and 6 m2 each were made in old style with metal pipes for structure and a transparent plastic over it to make the area warmer for the planets, as well as a small lab for the biologist to study the plants themselves for other uses besides food.
For the miners we found five mining tanks, like those from those platform mining games. They had a large drill on the front and a circular body with track tires like tanks made for 1 person. Unfortunately they had many parts missing but we were able to fix one of them. They carried a really detailed mining log of were mining had been planned.
(What I tried to model after, http://ahkong.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/motherload-01.jpg though it only has front drill and isn’t like the one in the game with the drill underneath it or the propeller to lift it (lol))
Even with that single mining tank working it was a marvel of technology because it caved through the ore filled walls at high speeds that put hand drills to shame.
With the increase in building material we started using the already processed metal we had to build new smelters. We got two built near the entrance of the cave it processed tons of metal and not even the byproduct rock mush was wasted as we used that excess to temporarily replace the rusted iron roads. It helped increase our speed a bit where the broken metal getting in the way but it was temporary since it won’t handle heavy machinery like the mining tanks.
Besides building machines we took down many rusted buildings and rebuilt new buildings with steel made from the smelters and recycled that rusted metal for newly processed ones and sent them off the repair more.
Now with everything starting up i took the chance at the end of the long week. i headed to the building that held the radio tower. It was three floors tall before the tower raised above it. Adam and Morgan were here with me to check the wiring.
Going inside we found the place trashed. Equipment was rusted or damage from some impact.
Adam: did those guys break the radio! Look at this place it trashed...at least the main controls are working but it will take some time to remake the controls.
Morgan: Gunner won’t be able to help here we need to be creative.
Noah: i think for now we can use the helmet and suit as the monitors and main frame let’s get working.
We equipped our helmets and each one took a different control panel and hooked up. Having brought spare computer parts we replacing broken parts that appear on the screen like "repair memory chip" or "replace motherboard #XX". We were lucky we had many parts that made up the computers here.
After an hours work the covering over the controls had been striped clean off so we could work and it looked now like some scrap heap instead of a control room.
As i was replacing the final motherboard the controls finally come back online.
Radio: SHHHHHH.
Noah: its working! Great now how does this thing work.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
We started looking through codes full and data stored in the controls. I soon found a file detailing how to work the tower. I skimmed through it and got a basic understanding but I will need to go back for more detail. In simple man’s terms you turn the tower antenna towards the direction the signal will be and send it out. I say simple but that’s only for the explanation it took almost 20 minutes for us to find the control network using the helmets to turn the antenna.
Adam: so were should we turn the antenna?
Noah: well let’s send out the signal as is and see if something doesn’t happen.
Morgan: what if we catch the attention of something else besides the station?
Noah: …
Adam: I’m sending the signal.
Morgan: hey he didn’t answer!
Before he could say more a contact signal was sent upwards. The radio was still in its static state with no obvious change until we got a message.
Radio signal has met interference from the planets and asteroids magnetic nature. You must send the signal through a thinner zone of asteroids to attempt the connection.
Morgan: …so what now?
Noah: you got your answer there Morgan. Hello carrier control room is there anyone there.
??? : yes sir what do you need?
Noah: I want you to find the entrance point we used to come through the asteroid field I want as close to exact coordinates of where it is now.
??? : That will take time sir it has been a few days and might be out of our current view but I will try.
The com went quiet with only a few beeps sounding which meant she was searching.
??? : I found it sir im sending the coordinates to you now, these have a 75% chance to be the correct coordinates or its in that general zone but exact up to 100% I can’t make sure of it.
Noah: thanks this is enough just knowing the general area helps.
The chat closes as I begin imputing the coordinates of the opened whole we made into the asteroid field. As soon as I press to turn the sound of the antenna turning becomes audible. It turns for about a minute before we hear the “clink” sound when it stopped.
Noah: alright it should be around the area we appeared on let’s hope they get this.
Adam: let’s send them a proper message instead of a signal that can be easily disrupted.
Noah: ok then…”this is Noah on Kelha II planet base calling Station”
With the message sent we just wait.
Kelha II Station Tower Overview (3rd POV)
In the station tower their wasn’t much going on, a week or so ago the rock monsters suddenly vanished from the asteroid fields so things grew really calm and was getting boring as no one called the tower for help or reinforcements. Though the base had gone through a startling growth spurt after the Liberation Merchant ship and Warship escort appeared. They not only brought goods to sell it brought people that were interested in the station that was placed in between the frontier and the much more civilized areas. Their interest came in the form of terraforming planets for industry or habitation of the populous.
Back in the tower the work hands were just bored sitting in their seats only getting a few calls to direct them to the correct hanger drop area. That was at least until a red alert message came in. the top brass of the tower took the call.
Tower head: hello what’s the emergency?
Noah: ….is Noa. .n Ke.ha .. pla..et ba.. cal..ng sta..on
(this is Noah on Kelha II planet base calling Station)
The head slightly paled when he finally deciphered the message.
Tower Head: CALL THE BOSS NOAH REACHED THE PLANET AND HAS MADE CONTACT!!!
This was far beyond what they imagined from the red alert it was by far the biggest news they have had since the anomaly signals appeared. After a bit Mr. Cane, Marcus and Samuel Davis, the Commander of the Liberation Escort Warship Blutopfer, came into the tower.
(Yes ppl the name came from our favorite Shieldbro’s deadliest skill)
Mores: what’s all this ruckus about, I was in a meeting with Commander Davis and suddenly someone calls for an emergence.
Tower Head: sorry sir we just got a message from Noah from the radio tower on Kelha II.
Mores eyes go wide as does Marcus but Samuel who doesn’t know the situation behind the event isn’t fazed.
Samuel: what so special about receiving a message from the base?
Marcus: the asteroid field interferes with any message passing through it…I myself am wondering who the message got through.
Mores: I think I know, Noah dug his carrier into the asteroid field and made a tunnel through the asteroids one which the miners have made sure to keep open by blasting any rocks getting in the way.
Samuel: if that’s true them he is impressive to have found the tunnel after landing.
Mores: hand me the com and turn the speaker on for all to hear but no one talk.
Everyone got really quiet while the channel signal was sent. After a few minutes the comms turned into a quiet static which meant it connected.
Mores: Noah can you hear me?
Noah: a l..tle it’s q..te br.ke. up.
(A little it's quite broken up.)
Mores: from our side to its hard to understand so how is the situation down there?
Noah: th. bas. is in s.me d..re.air bu. we g.t the. pow.r an. Ba.e sh..ld. ba.k on a.d hav. sta..ed .ryi.g to p.od.ce foo. do.n .ere in gr.enhou..s.
(The base is in some disrepair but we got the power and shields back on and have started trying to produce food down here in greenhouses)
Mores: …ok got it, do you need something down there?
Noah: …fo.d, s.ed, l.ts of m.ch.nes f.r pr.duct.on, th. li.t go.s on bu. firs. we n.ed to ge. this co.nec.ion to wor. be.te.. We ar. se.ding t.e si.nal thr.ugh the .un.el we d.g wit. my c.rri.r bu. we .ave no wa. to im.rov. th. si.nal f.om dow. .ere s.nce w. do.’t kn.w if we w.ll be a.ta.ked li.e th. fre.gh.er th.t tr.ed to l.un.h fr.m h.re.
(...food, seeds, lots of machines for production. The ist goes on but first we need to get this connection to work better. We are sending the signal through the tunnel we dug with my carrier but we dont know if we will be attacked like the friegter that tried to launch from here)
Mores: we will get something done up here for now try to stay alive down there we will get on it right away.
When he finished the signal was cut and the room went silent. Mores stood up straight while and looked back.
Mores: Marcus what are the normal options for improving a signal?
Marcus: well there are only two ways really get a better system and add a better antenna to capture the signals or build and launch satellites to focus the signal through the interference.
When he heard the second option his eyes momentarily shined.
Samuel: sir you are planning to make satellites correct?
Mores: you have a good eye, yes I am.
Samuel: if can you tell me about the asteroid field I heard it has some strange structure to it like it was placed that way.
Mores: right the field has 7 layers and in between there is an open area with only A rank asteroids. A few weeks back the asteroid fields were infested with alien made from rocks but they vanished recently we don’t know how it would affect them but I want to place a few satellites within these open zones channel the signal through the asteroid fields.
Samuel: I see it is a unique formation…my ship holds advanced workshops if you can provide the metal and funds for just the manual labor I can make 8 satellites for you and place it along the tunnel this Noah created.
Mores: Marcus can you take the commander and work out a contract I will pay from my own pocket if needed but we need them.
Marcus: yes sir. Please sir this way we can talk about the details back in the conference room.
Samuel nods and then leaves with Marcus.
Mores: this boy always makes such large events happen…heh he defiantly accomplished his mission to the best results.
