Chapter 17

‘Ok big boy you're up,’ Samantha excitedly grinned, turning to look down at the fast-approaching fast approaching gigantic-sized trees and the even gigantic bridge platform that alone contained double, ‘No, scratch, that.’, Triple the number of archers that she had faced so far, as well as a vast quantity of what seemed to be solder’s of some kind, armed as they were in standard eleven leather, who appeared to be busily at work defending the archers with there gigantic wooden shields from the vast amounts of arrows that her archers kept sending there way.

‘Not, to forget the unknowns that those Tents present, I would need an army to defeat the forces that it presents,’ Luckily for her, she had one, Samantha smiled, looking down, turning her head to her fast-approaching army of Calvery elite and infantry regulars that were fast approaching even now.

“Aghh…….” The army screamed, more and more arow hitting them even as they continued their charge, distracting the enemy archers, just as Samantha had hoped they would.

“Good on y Boys” Samantha murmured, patting chestnut on the side and slowing to a crawl, ‘Keep it up,’ Samtha thought, capping her hand out to them.

Agh. How she could be down there. Standing side, with these brave people who were fighting for her this day, risking life and limb, “For gold and glory, sure, but also me,” Samantha bitterly mumbled to herself, having long since determined that she would increase the pay of any who survived this day tenfold, along with all the other benefits that she had already promised them of course.

‘And those that don’t, well it’s sad, but they knew what they were getting into’ Samantha sourly thought, wishing that she could do more to help yet knowing to do otherwise would make her appear weak to her men, patting chestnut’s side twice, signalling Chestnut to begin his descent.

“Alright girl, you know what to do” Samantha mumbled, muzzling chestnuts ear as they slowly approached the greenery-filled vines that made up the gigantic platform.

‘Now’ Samantha inward mumbled, holding her hand up as high as she could manage, leaving it up to fate, just about hoping that the old man would see it as she sent off the signal, anxiously staring into the air, awaiting a response, only to smile, her faith suddenly rewarded with a thin volley of fire arrows suddenly hurling into the air heading her way.

“Fryoura!” An unknown elf yelled, suddenly looking up and spotting the arrows, his arm up in the air, pointing them out to his fellow elves.

“Fryoura!”, “Fryoura!” Dozens of elves suddenly yelled from all over the platform, following the first, thousands more copying out the call. Hundreds of elves instantaneously emerged outwards from tents and other various posts as they heard the call. Even as archers pulling out their bows began to arch arrows into the sky, attempting to block the old man's volley before they could hit the deck.

“Ok, that should keep them distracted for a while” Samantha muttered. watching as hundreds of firry arrows, having spontaneously avoided the elvish arrows, hit dozens upon dozens of vine tents, bursting into flames as they hit.

‘Huh…Time to go I guess’, She sighed. instantly hopping off from Chestnut’s back and onto the green platform, and immediately kneeling behind the non-flamed tent that stood before her before any elf could spot her.

“Enough!” Samantha suddenly heard. Slowly turning a corner. The voice echoed outwards in such a way that samtha was sure all the elves on the platform could hear the words.

“If you can't deal with one band of stinking Humani then I will!” The voice screamed, dozens of green branches suddenly growing out from all over the platform, branching together to create a gigantic barrier of vines.

‘Dam, that’s going to complicate things,’ Samantha thought looking up to the newly created greenery-filled barrier that was surly tough enough to block any arrows that the old man might throw at it Samatha was certain. ‘But at least I know they're really is a druid,’.

“Now I just need to find him,” Samtha muttered, softly crouching, being curfull to keep low as she possibly could as she walked, carefully looking ahead to the next green tent that lay but 3 feet away from her.

‘Ok, the cost is clear,’ Samtha silently muttered, looking left to right, right to left, and back again, carefully searching as she was for any elves that might have remained behind. Spotting nothing but green grass the entire way.

”Ok, Time to go” She muttered, seeing nothing that would prevent her from heading that way. Softly moving her foot forward, keeping as close to the ground as she could. Praying to the gods that nobody would spot her.

“Hahh…” Samtha sighed, having finally arrived at the other side in no time at all. Taking a sharp deep breath out. Before finally taking a sharp step forwards. The processes begining yet again as she finally arrived at the big green tent and ever quietly, using the gigantic cover that the tent provided, moved from one corner to another.

‘Aghh, I hate this rogue spite stuff, yet I always seem to find myself in these situations,’ Samtha thought, thoroughly hating this whole plan of hers with a vengeance, Samatha having never been to sneak about when there was a battle to be had.

“Yet What else can I do?”, Samtha methodically muttered, gritting her teeth as she carefully pushed her hands and whole body forwards, only to stop, 2 sudden shadow shapes abruptly appearing up ahead of her.

“Lassha, mala, na….” A sudden elf voice spoke out from the 2 shadows, speaking with the same old distasteful elven language of theirs that Samtha had grown so familiar with over the last few, she did not how many, tireless battles she had been in with the elven archer’s.

“Tinga na ma….” A second voice shouted out in that same typical yet distasteful eleven language.

“Ahh, why can’t they just speak common,” Samtha almost screamed, just about stopping herself in time ‘Hhh, Next level up, I’m taking the understanding all perk’, Samtha sighed, not for the first time filled with a sudden desire to understand what they were saying.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Mala me lana she pa” The first voice shouted out.

“Tishu mana ra!” The second shadow suddenly shouted out, nodding his head in agreement, and suddenly before Samtha knew it they were heading her way.

‘Spite,’ Samtha cursed. ‘, They're coming for me’ She realised, putting her hand to her sword, preparing to fight. ‘Wait,’ Samtha stopped, admitting that it might just be better to wait and see, carefully looking sideways, 2 elven armoured shoulder’s suddenly in sight,

‘I don’t know that, it could be just anything, for all I know, they could just be looking for a place to nap, or a place to piss’ Samtha thought, shuddering at the thought.

‘Or, or they know I'm here and are heading right for me’ Samtha thought, tightening her hold upon her sword. Staying right where she was. Ready for anything.

“Halacha” The second elf suddenly said, the two elve shadows suddenly disappearing as they entered the tent. ‘Hhh’ Samantha mentally sighed, content. ‘This would be a lot easier if I could move around freely’ Samtha thought already more than a bit greyed out by this whole sneaking around part of the operation.

----------------------------------------

“HHH” “SNOOO” They sounded, widely asleep.

‘Ok, time to go’ She thought.

Turning, sword and shield at the ready, samtha began to move, keeping her head low as she slides one right step forwards, and then one left step, and then another right, and another….

Right. And another. Left. Another. Right. Left. Right.left. Another and another and another. On and on. And on it went. Softly crouching through one step after another. Till finally after an eternity of internity she finally reached the end. Reaching the other side of the tent, stopping.

’Dam’ she thought, looking up only to see no tent, nothing, nothing but burning ashes, for as far as her eyes could make out.

‘You did your job too well old man’ Samantha inwardly smirked, thinking of all the jokes she would now be able to make at his expense. Looking around. Finally spotting another small-looking half-scotched tent about half a clock from her position.

‘How in all inferno am I supposed to get all the way across this mess without being caught’ Samtha wondered, inwardly cursing as she looked side to side, right to left, seeing no way to reach her goal without being spotted by the many, many elves that were sure to be out there now that the appropriate time had gone past.

“Hhhhh…..” The elves snored, Samtha with her advanced cultivator hearing instantly hearing them from her hidden position.

‘Wait,’ Samtha thought, turning to the inward guts of the green vine tent. Suddenly inspired. ‘Could I’ She wondered, the blips of an idea coming to her. Inspiration striking yet again. ‘Yes, surely it would work’ She thought, and so with inspiration filling her yet again, Samantha went ti turn.

Turning. Sward and shield held upwards. Crocheting from one foot to the other.

Samtha stopping, taking one final sharp breath inwards, before finally carefully crawling her feet forwards through the tent green flap of an entrence.

Samatha’s moderately moved shuffled forwards. Slowly heading towards the elves as they continued to sleep in their surprisingly comfortable-looking green hammocks.

Occasionally turning her head side to side as she carefully crouched through the small yet surprisingly spacious tent that held along with their 2 green bunking hammocks, a small top desk with several books on top and 2 rather large leather backpacks at the side of their beds as she continued onwards towards them.

“Korrrrr” One of the two elves sounded. Suddenly turning. Samtha stopped, holding her breath steady, as he did so.

“Ama,hhhhhh…..” The elf dreamingly muttered, snoring, a happy smile filling his face.

“Hhhh” Samantha sighed. Blade held upwards. Moving towards the very dreaming yet very asleep elf on the left first.

“Goodbye, elf,” Samantha muttered. Quickly reaching him in order. Thrusting her sword down. Killing him instantly.

Oshhhh. Samatha’s sword went. Easily cutting through the elves' windpipe just as it had been designed to do. Samantha quickly turning her sward and moving on to the next. Quickly brought her sword down and chopped his head clean off, Killing him just as easily as she had the first.

“Thank ‘s for the donation” Samantha spatted out as she went to take off his blood-stained armour and clothes, quick as she could stripping down to her britches and going as to eqipe the elven amure.

----------------------------------------

‘Ughh…’ Samantha uncommonly moved. Swaying from side to side. Finding it ever so hard to move in this clearly male-intoned armour that so clearly had not been made with a woman in mind. Shighfully looking beneath the covers of the twin hammock where her armour lay, carefully hidden away from prying eyes beneath a dozen fur covers.

‘, Ok,’ Samantha sighed, going as to pick up the second elves sward and shield off his corpse.

‘What’s this?’ Samtha stopped suddenly spotting a small pece of yellow bark tightly bound to the dead elf’s hand, curiously picking it up instead of the eleven-made weapons. ‘Wait, is this writing?’ Samtha wondered, even more, curious as looked at words that appeared to be some barely written elven letters of some sort.

“Tha ba Paswdo is Manoshava lastosha, henama ta” Samtha read. Unsure of what it meant yet memorising it anyway thinking it might come in handy sometime soon.

“Hahh… doesn't matter it’s time to go’ Samantha thought, sighing, muttering under her breath, picking the elven sword as she did so, going as to turn.

And, So elven sword and shield in hand, samtha turned and began to match, taking one step, and then another, and another, and another.

And another. Till finally. 5, 6.7.8 steps later she was at the side, vines fully covering her head as she began to exit the tent.

“Hllaash” A loud clearly elven voice echoed outwards from the centre of the tent, the same general location as the elven Druid’s voice had screamed from only a few minutes ago. Samantha marching onwards.

“Laghshshdama!” A second voice echoed out from the first even as Samantha walked forwards, marching straight for them.

Left. Right. Left.right.Samantha nervously matched. Walking. Heading past ash-filled vines after ash-filled vines, carefully heading towards the next tent that seemed to be growing ever bigger with every single step.

Left.Right.Left. Right. Samantha stepped, continuing forwards. Quickly reaching the green-red scorched tent in short order.

“Huhh………” Samtha sighed, anxiously nodding at the two guards as she passed the slightly charred green vines that made up their tent's entrance. Forcing her body to keep its same slow steady pace so as not to attract their attention.

“Bladauro!” They shouted, nodding back.

‘Uhh…Bladauro!” Samantha quickly shouted back, repeating what they sent back to her, just hoping this to be the right response.

“Manyara Ra ba” They shouted, waving her onwards. Samtha quickly and ever so quietlyly marching onwards before they could say another word.

‘Hahhhh…That was close’ Samantha sighed. Breathing outwards. Filled with relief as she continued to march ever further away from the green charred tent.
