As soon as Jack answered the call, he immediately recognized Mrs. Bennett's voice.
Mrs. Bennett was a middle-aged woman, around sixty years old. She had been a widow for about ten years and lived alone in a small Victorian-style cottage, located in a secluded area of the town. She was a stubborn and independent woman who liked to manage everything on her own and didn't like to ask for help. Despite this, she was very loved and respected by her fellow citizens, both for her intelligence and her generosity. She spent most of her time in the fields around her cottage, where she grew flowers and vegetables. She was a passionate gardener and spent hours tending to her small vegetable garden, where she harvested a variety of vegetables: tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, lettuce, and many others. Sometimes, she sold her vegetables at the local market and used the money to maintain the cottage and to buy small gifts for her grandchildren. Mrs. Bennett was also very active in the social life of the town. She participated in all the town council meetings and was a member of several volunteering associations, where she helped the needy and organized events to raise funds for the associations. She was always ready to listen and give advice to those in need and didn't hesitate to put her own commitments aside to help others. Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Bennett was still a vital and energetic woman. She was always on the go, with a smile on her lips and a joke ready for anyone she met.
Her voice was full of strong emotions, "M-Mr. Jack, it's a-all g-gone," she stuttered, "Mrs. Bennett, take some deep breaths and tell me what happened," Jack said.

"M-Mr. Jack, it's all gone!" said Mrs. Bennett with a trembling voice. "I went for a walk this morning and when I returned home, I found the door open and the living room in disarray. All of my money and some important documents are missing. I don't know who it could have been, but I'm sure it was a thief. I don't know what to do, I'm so shocked". "Calm down, Mrs. Bennett" said Jack with a reassuring tone. "Let's take a deep breath and try to understand what happened. Let's start from the beginning: when did you leave the house this morning and when did you come back?" "I left around nine and came back around eleven" Mrs. Bennett replied, trying to calm down. "I took a walk in the nearby fields, like I always do. When I returned home, I found the door open and the living room in disarray. I immediately knew something was wrong and called the police". "Did you notice anything strange during your walk?" Jack asked. "Did you see anyone suspicious or anything that could be useful for the investigation?" "No, I didn't see anything strange" Mrs. Bennett replied, shaking her head. "I didn't expect to be the victim of a theft, not here in Hilltown. It's a quiet town, where everyone knows each other and trusts each other. I can't believe someone could have done something like this".
Jack was worried about Mrs. Bennett, but at the same time he couldn't contain his excitement. He finally had a case to solve! Even if this meant working with the Hilltown police, and particularly with the head of the Hilltown police, John Thompson, who Jack considered an incompetent man, he was still happy about his first case. "I'm coming, Mrs. Bennett!" he exclaimed, almost laughing from happiness. With his heart racing, he ran down the stairs and rushed towards Mrs. Bennett's cottage, eager to begin the investigation.
