Character Creation

Today was going to be the best day ever!

He had managed to grab a hold of a limited copy of Infinity Gates, also known as "The Hottest Game of the Century!"

Even better was the fact that it was Friday which meant he had all of the weekends to play it!

Yes, life was good in the mind of James Melrose, in fact, things were going great. He was practically bouncing on his seat the entire bus ride home. He was zipping through the side doors even before they were fully open and racing down the street to get to his dorm at record speed.

The track and fields club could eat their heart out because he doubted even Usain Bolt could've matched his speed fueled by pure excitement and half a dozen cans of soda.

Kicking the door close behind him and dumping his bag by the entrance he quickly went into his room. Tom could bitch at later but he couldn't wait even a single more second. He felt like the back of his neck was itching the entire time during classes and now he could finally relieve it.

He plopped himself onto his bed and reached over to the night stall to put on his Helmet, carefully inserting the wires to the port on the back of his neck.

NeuraLink.

An implanted device that directly allowed one to stream the web with their mind. The days of large chunky computer or laggy connections were long gone. It was also thanks to this invention that one could truly experience VR games like never before, allowing all the sight, smell, and sound of the game to be felt with unprecedented realism.

It was also why parental control was so much stricter now for the more... Adult...sites. But that was an entirely different can of worms that he was willing to get into at the moment.

With a reverence that would not look out of place from a Priest holding onto the Holy Bible, he carefully retrieves a small chip from his back pocket. Barely the size of a quarter, one would hardly think that this was something that contained an entire virtual world- no multiverse in and of itself.

With a mad grin, he promptly inserted it... and fell flat on his face.

His legs were on the bed while his cheeks kissed the floor. He would surely be sore in the morning as his body collapsed while his mind traversed the NeuroNet.

----------------------------------------

He opened his eyes to an entirely new location. Gone was the wooden flooring, the small dorm room with only a bed and a nightstand.

Now he was sat upon a golden throne, the armrest two lions roaring out in anger. A drum stick was in his right hand, turkey going by the smell and a cup of red wine in his left. Torches lit up the room from all around and there was an opening in the ceiling allowing the light of the moon, or rather moons, to shine down with violet light. Two words.

Holy. Shit!

This was the freaking coolest loading screen/character creation page ever! Man, two seconds in and he was already blown away by the details. He took a small bite, then another, and then another. It was incredible, his mind knew it wasn't real, but he felt more full already.

As he stared at the sky he noticed the two moons slowly converge in the sky as if in an eclipse. His patience was rewarded when a beam of light shot down towards him as soon as the two overlapped. floating within it was a stone tablet

He facepalmed so hard that he was sure his NeuroLink Implant would've been knocked out if his body actually mimicked his avatar, and that thing was literally wired to his spine.

"You Piece of Shit!"

! Accepted !

Welcome "Piece of Shit!" to Infinity Gate, please select your starting destination. Remember, all choices are Final!

...Wait...Say wut now? Nonononononon Goddamnit NO!

"Back! Cancel! Abort! ABORTION, REGRESS NOW! I WILL FUCK YOUR MOTHE-"

He was cut off as suddenly he was transported to what looked to be a medieval war room. There was a round table with oaken chairs all around him, yet only one seat was filled. As soon as she saw him the woman approached. She seemed to be a stereotypical elf, long blonde hair, pointed ears, beautiful blue eyes, and pale skin. She opened her mouth and told him something, but he didn't catch a single word.

It wasn't because he was too busy staring at her chest though, promise!

It just wasn't in English. She waved her hand towards the table and he saw a worn looking map on it, but when he stepped closer he lit up before forming a screen much like a hologram. There was a bunch of symbols and lines and other bullshit he didn't understand.

Why wasn't this game user-friendly?

Well... Red was usually bad and green was good or Easy, right? So he picked a nice small green dot in what looked to be the countryside.

[Warning: Region Difficulty level: Hell selected, Location: Orken Empire Frontier, Proceed?]

[Yes/No]

All games have a similar format so he just clicked on the left one were Yes probably was. Must be some confirmation of his choices or something.

A bunch of other bars and nonsense popped up, probably setting adjustment. He just ignored them, especially after he accidentally turned himself into a girl pressing a random button... The realism was a double-edged sword it seems because having such a sudden draft between his legs was quite disturbing.

Finally, after what felt like forever the class selection appeared. He was now in a large stone hallway. It seemed to be some sort of temple. Pretty cool, he'd give it a 7.5/10. There were some statues in rows on both sides of him and what appeared to be a glowing magic circle.

A man standing next to a large wolf, probably a summoner of sorts.

A Knight holding a claymore in full plate armor.

A cloaked figure with two gleaming daggers.

Even a Pirate and what appeared to be a kid in a goddamn Mecha suit!... No lie, he was tempted to ignore everything else and run straight there.

Sci-Fi was cool, and he really wanted to find out how the game balanced Sci-Fi , but Magic has always been his bread and butter and he wouldn't betray it for anything. Not even a super badass... Sleek...Beautiful...WMA... Goddamnit, please let there be dual classing later on!

He finally found what he was looking for after mindlessly wandering down the seemingly Infinite, pun totally intended, hallways. Man, there was a lot of options.

An old man with a magnificently long beard and pointy hat with a crystal staff! Hell yeah, bring on the fireballs!

[Basic Mage selected!]

[Select Starting School of Magic-]

[Basic Elemental Magic Selected]

[Fire Ball]

[Water Orb]

[Wind Blade]

...

He sure as hell didn't need to be able to read to know that it was asking him to pick some class option. He went with the tried and true method of going by the picture.

James was a simple man. He saw a fireball, he picked the fireball. All was well with the world.

Welcome to Infinity Gates!

!?!

Motherfucker, NOW YOU SPOKE ENGLISH?!

He didn't get a chance to finish his rant as he was suddenly, and quite literally, dropped into a new world.
