Ch: 2 - The State Bank of Kanghae

Sam was in a state of complete shock. He almost fainted as soon as he saw what that mail contained. Right at this moment, all he could do was to just sit in his bed and remain shocked.

Sam had probably been sitting in his bed for 3 hours straight just thinking of what the fuck just happened. When he somewhat regained his consciousness, he checked to see if it was even real. The one who had sent it had done so through a mail named "[email protected]". Sam went on to google this address in order to see for himself if this really was a petty prank or not.

When he found out after googling was indeed quite shocking too. Apparently, the 'sbkvd' in the mail stood for 'State Bank of Kanghae - VIP Department'

"haha hahaha hah, what the fuck is actually going on..."

Sam laughed to himself and just seconds later tears ran down his cheeks. He had never thought that he would be saved from the depths of depression in this way. The sentimental time went on for some time, but ultimately, Sam decided to go to that State Bank of Kanghae and get his card upgraded. He realized that he had to put on some nice clothes instead of the complete trash outfit he wore today, but soon he also realized that the reason for his trash outfit today was because he didn't have any nice clothes.

*sigh*

"I guess I'll go in this then, not that it really matters if changed outfit anyways since I'll still look homeless no matter what I wear"

Sam thought of how miserable he was again and thought that now that he had an extreme amount of money, he would try to help others in need too so that they wouldn't need to experience homelessness anymore. This was probably the most determined Sam has ever been in his whole life.

"Let's go to the bank then... Ohh I almost forgot. I have to take my laptop with me in case they need to see my ID or something."

Sam said and put on a serious expression that made him seem like a charismatic leader. As he went outside, he saw that it had gotten dark so he looked at the big watch above the building he lived in since he himself had nothing to tell the time.

"So it was this late. Gotta hurry then if I want to arrive at the bank before they close."

The time was 10:46 pm and the taxi service has stopped long ago. Sam decided to take his bike to the train station and wait for a train that would take him to the bank.

When he arrived at the station he sat down on a bench and patiently waited for a train. He started thinking about what he would spend his money on and what results it would have. Although Sam was poor, he had quite some skills in managing money which he had gained from all his years of being extremely poor, but he had never had a chance of putting them to use since he was so poor.

*sigh*

After a long time of thinking about it, he still hadn't managed to find out what he wanted to do so he let out a long and loud sigh. Sam hadn't noticed when, but a woman had taken a seat on the bench next to the one Sam was sitting on. When she heard his long sigh, she instantly looked in his direction.

"Mind keeping it down, you despicable low-class"

She said as she threw a tremendously disdainful look at Sam. She had no way of knowing, but Sam was probably the richest private-person in the whole city of Kanghae right now. Sam had always been poor, so he had noticed that if you were poor in this city, you would be scorned no matter if you stood up for yourself or not so you might as well just stand up for yourself.

"Ohh, I'm so sorry. I didn't know that I had been stripped of my right to speak freely in this country. I am eternally repentant for my sins."

Sam said with a teasing tone as he looked at the lady with a grin. Although these kinds of people were the ones Sam hated the most, he had to admit that this lady was extremely beautiful. She had a slim waist, a nice butt and most of all, a rack from the heavens.

"Tsk."

The lady glared at him for a while but then ignored him. As their little argument was over a train arrived at the station, and it was the one Sam needed to take in order to get to the bank. Just as he stood up, the lady beside him did so as well. They even got on the same train.

"Ohh? following me around like this? could it be that the lady has already taken a liking to me?"

Sam said with an even more teasing tone than before. This made the lady quite angry again, which coincidentally, was Sam's intention.

"I don't have time for disgusting low-class people such as you."

She said before she sat down in a free seat at the far end of the cart. Sam who had also gotten tired of this overly proud and negative woman, sat down at the other end of the cart. Since it was a long trip, Sam wanted to sleep for a bit so he took off his hoodie and put it over himself as a blanket instead. He quickly fell asleep after lying down on the benches in the train. since it was so late, there was only Sam and the scornful woman in this cart at the time which made it possible for him to lie down.

*ding, ding. Stopping at State Bank of Kanghae*

An automated voice rang out inside the train which woke Sam up. He immediately put on his hoodie again and walked towards the doors on the train. The lady at the other end of the train did the same. Sam knew that she was probably also going to the bank, but felt an urge to tease her again.

"Well, well. If it isn't my secret stalker. No need to hide your feelings for me."

The lady just ignored him and walked out as the doors opened, so Sam decided to not prolong anymore and did the same. When he got out, he saw the massive building which was the State Bank of Kanghae. It was probably 4 times bigger than the whole university which already was one of the biggest buildings in this area of the city. Although it was night time at the moment, the bank shined like a newly polished jewel. All the bright lights on the building reflected off of the glamorous exterior.

"Damn, just how rich are these guys?"

Sam said as he walked in the direction of the main entrance. When he was just meters away from the entrance, a loud voice sounded out.

"Stop right there. Show me your ID."

It was one of the guards who was stationed at the entrance and when Sam saw this he sighed inwardly because he knew that even if he had a somewhat legitimate ID, they wouldn't let him in. All that mattered here in Kanghae was power and status both of which Sam didn't have. Luckily Sam had prepared for this and took his laptop out and showed them the invitation from the VIP Department. When the two guards saw this, they instantly froze.

"I'm s-sorry for the inconvenience I caused you Mr. Sam Kruzenne. Please follow me."

The guard was evidently shaken by the turn of events. Sam was too, he had never expected the invitation to be so effective. In his mind, he expected to have to go through a whole lot of trouble before they even would start trusting him.

"No need to be so polite, just take me where I'm supposed to be."

Sam said with a smile and followed the guard into the entrance. When they got in, the lady who was at the train earlier sat on a sofa and conversed with a handsome man. The man was dressed in a completely white attire and had a black necktie. When the lady noticed him she glared at him with a small hint of killing intent in her eyes.

"You useless guard, he's the one I paid you to stop, you shit!"

She said in a loud angry voice and started walking towards them. Sam now knew why he had been stopped at the entrance for no reason and wasn't quite happy about it. Sam already knew that he was despised by pretty much everyone and didn't really mind when he was insulted, but when someone tries to restrain him, he becomes quite irritated. The guard who apparently had been bribed for the purpose of stopping me at the gate looked at her with an angry but at the same time a panicked expression. He was afraid that Sam would become furious and make life hard for him.

"I advice you to stop right there young lady."

The guard said and then ignored her while continuing his task of guiding Sam to the VIP Department Desk. Sam looked at the guard and thought that he was quite an interesting fellow. The guards at the State Bank would obviously have a good pay, which made Sam wonder why the guard had broken rules that would cause him to be fired and earn himself a permanent mark in his files only for some money. Sam thought about it and decided to ask the guard some stuff.

"Hey, you don't have to worry man. I'm not gonna report you or anything, but since you were bribed to make things hard for me, I crave some information."

Sam said as he smiled and looked at the guard. The guard's expression lightened quickly, but at the same time he wore a worried expression because of what Sam said he wanted, but since he didn't want to be fired, he accepted the terms.

"O-okay. What do you want to know?"

The guard said while worrying about what information Sam would crave.

"Hmmm, what about your name and why you were bribed?"

The way it sounded was definitely worrying for the guard. Those two pieces of information are typical things you would report in this scenario. The guard swallowed and started sweating, but decided that he could at least tell Sam his name.

"My name is Zhao Liang."

The guard said while still worrying about the other piece of information. He was in quite the dilemma. If he told Sam why he was bribed, Sam both were able to report him and had all right to do so, but if Sam decided to not report him after listening, his job would still be in danger since the reason for the bribery was quite complicated and had to do with greedy higher-ups. If they found out that Zhao had ratted them out, he would definitely not be able to live out his days in peace.

"Ok, and what about the other information I asked about. You know, if it's not a fair trade I obviously won't go through with it."

Sam said with a serious expression with made Zhao tremble a bit. Zhao thought about it and deduced that even if both choices most likely had a bad outcome, the one where he tells Sam is most likely to go in his favor.

"ok, ok. Ehm-mm, I accepted her bribery because of my money-crisis. The higher-ups at the State Bank cut the pay constantly so that they could keep more money to themselves which made it hard for me to take care of my family."

Zhao said while looking down. When Sam heard this, he became enraged. Who would have the audacity to endanger someone's family for the sole purpose of some money. The look on Sam's face gradually became colder and piercing. He looked at Zhao Liang who was standing still and sympathized with him for a while.

"Take me to the VIP Department now my friend Zhao Liang. I will help you in any way I'm able to!"

Sam said with a domineering voice as he looked at Zhao. Sam had himself been a target of this pesky technique of stealing money, so he knew quite well how it felt for Zhao Liang. Although Sam had promised to help Zhao, he didn't know how much he would be able to help him. Sam didn't know that the power he held right now was overwhelming. If Sam wanted to, He could easily fire anyone on the bank staff except for the chairman and the one Sam needed to deal with was only the sneaky Security Department's manager.
