Chapter 0 - Prologue

Although this isn't my first time writing a story, it is the first time I write it in english and as you might have guessed, english isn't my first language.

I'm open to any and all criticism/ideas and if you find mistakes, mention them in the comments and I'll try to take care of them.

Also, the prologue might change a little in the future, depending on just what direction I'll go with the story.

And with that, I hope that you'll enjoy this little prologue =)

Prologue

I have witnessed and experienced so many things in my life that I don’t even know where I should begin. Should I start telling you my story, I am absolutely certain that you will take me for a fool and doubt my sanity. Many will believe it to be a simple fairy tale, but the truth is, I have lived two different lives, on two different worlds. I was born in a world ruled by science and technology and I lived there until I turned nineteen. To this day, I do not know exactly what happened, but on my nineteenth birthday, I woke in a world ruled by magic and what I believed to be myths. You can laugh all you want at that, thinking ‘Magic does not exist’ or ‘It is not real’, but it does not matter, for I do not ask for your belief, all I wish is that you listen to my story.

Even I sometimes doubt it, like all I experienced in my life was nothing more than a simple dream. But then I remind myself of certain words that I heard long ago and something that I find to be true as well - ’Humans are just a sum of their experiences and memories.’ And if you can’t even trust your own mind, then what exactly can you trust? Of course, there are ways to manipulate memories, both with magic and science, so that sentence doesn’t seem to hold very much weight, now does it? I also thought along those lines, until I found my answer - ’It is true that memories can be false, but for that reason humans were gifted with a heart. If you ever find yourself doubting your own memories, listen to your heart. In the end your heart never lies.’ It is a rather simple thing, but something very few of us manage to discover. But I won’t speak of it anymore, because should we continue, it would end in a philosophical debate.

Rather, before I begin I should talk a little about the world I was born in, Earth, and my first life as an rather average human. I was born in a middle class family of five: mother, father, my older brother, me and my younger sister. I never really stood out in that family, as my older brother was always a great athlete and continued on that road even after finishing school and my younger sister was, in one word, a genius. No matter the field, she would always excel, and to be honest, you could not help but stand in her shadow. And obviously, I was that shadow. I was rather average when it comes to my intelligence and maybe a little above average physically, but that was all. I didn’t have any specialities. I went to school, hanged out my friends and did a little martial art training. That might sound impressive, but trust me, it really isn’t. I was never that great in it and I simply did it to keep fit. The only thing I truly loved, were books. As I lived an ordinary life, never standing out, I wished for an outstanding and an unique life. I never could have imagined what would happen next.

And this is how my story starts. Not with my ordinary first life, but rather my second life, full of adventure and magic. This is the story of how I woke in a world called Galateia, how I found friends, made enemies, tried to survive and try to find answers to countless questions.

And this story starts on a boat...
