Prologue

Bright violet eyes rested at the bottom of a dimly lit stairwell. The eyes slowly scanned the door numbers as they ascended the rusty stairs. Reaching the top, a flickering bulb revealed the figure as that of the crimefighter The Phantom. Her dark black hair rested gently on the fur collar of the black dress that wrapped itself around her slim figure. A glint from the light emanated from midnight purple swirls that danced around the dress's waistline. She reached her slender black-gloved hands forward, slowly probing the door's lock with long metallic tools, intently listening to the dull clicks and stressed wailing of the lock's mechanisms. A high-pitched clink from the lock indicated success. Kneeling, she opened a toolbox, extracting a flat-headed screwdriver from its depths and carefully gripping it in her right hand. A cool breeze crossed her arm like a wave as she unscrewed a nearby vent. Reaching inside, her slender fingers carefully searched its cold metal insides. Thirty seconds had passed before she found the slick, warm surface of the adhesive tape, carefully placed hours earlier by a discreet agent. Pulling the tape to the side revealed a specialty-made pistol alongside three queer-looking darts. Raising the strange weapon, she entered a bland, windowless hallway. A colored door lay at the far end of the hallway, with the words "File Room" in faded black lettering on its face. Heavy footsteps approached from the other end. The Phantom pressed her slim figure against the plain walls, her body seeming to disappear into their dark paint. A rotund law officer stepped past her, a shiny silver flask pressed to his lips. The man quickly scanned his surroundings as beads of sweat formed on his brow. He pulled a small key from his belt, granting himself access to the blue door. Carefully, The Phantom slipped through behind him, watching as he carefully grabbed a set of files. The man then reached into his pocket, revealing a lighter as he raised its lit flame toward the file. The Phantom's voice crawled into his head like a worm: “Extinguish your flame, officer, or face the wrath of The Phantom.” the officer recoiled in fear dropping the lit lighter from his hand its shinny metallic shape hitting the soft floor with heavy lumbering steps the phantom approached the officer “Rot has consumed society and you are that rot” as the phantom spoke the floor beneath her caught fire the flame slowly spreading like a disease until the whole room was caught up in the inferno smoke shrouding the room in darkness
