Chapter 1

Nick… No, it’s now Tina realized that there was no way this was a dream. Not only did this feel too real but as a former guy well there are some things that guys aren’t able to feel that only girls can. This also caused him some mental trauma and also made him feel somewhat guilty about doing what he did to his innocent creation. But he had no choice and just had to know if this was truly a dream or some type of coma. It was still felt all too unreal and weird to him… no it would be here now as if reality hasn’t sunk in yet. Tina only did the bare minimum to check what she needed as she still wasn’t too comfortable being in this new body that she had painstakingly created.

Tina then decided to see what all she could do as she pulled up the menu. The first thing she noticed was the logout button was missing not that she’d be able to anyway. But she also saw newly added selections that a player wouldn’t be able to see and would normally just be automated by NPCs. The only reason NPCs even have a menu themselves is for when a game dev needs to login to one to make some changes. Mainly for editing quests while the server is still running instead of having to dig into their coding and possibly screw things up by mistake.

Looking at the forums she found people either complaining that the stores were already sold out while others were excited and hardly able to wait to log in. The item box every player gets was empty with the exception of the 50 copper that all players will start out with. The leather armor and starting weapon will be equipped during player login. With the exception of equipment to expand an item box’s storage space, each player starts off with 25 slots. Other than a few exceptions each slot can stack up to 100 of the same item.

Tina frowned as she realized even though she could create and edit quests within the parameters of the system. She couldn’t give herself quests. With a sigh of defeat, she got up and decided to walk out of the stable after she picked up her basket of freshly picked flowers.

“Alright who is the bastard that screwed up Tina’s spawn location?!”, She half screamed causing some of the NPCs to look at her weirdly. She had just stepped out of the stables and it didn’t take a genius to realize she was in a starting village instead of one of the walled larger towns where she was supposed to originally start off in.

Walking up to an NPC with a “!” icon she grinned as she figured out she could get quests from other NPCs at least. The thing is only the starting villages had those quest icons next to their names. Anywhere else people would have to figure out which NPCs give quests on their own, or figure out what parameters an NPC needs, in order to hand out a quest as not all will give quests just for the asking.

Tina realized she already had a head start over other players as she started off at level 5 not to mention NPCs especially those that can possibly become a companion get even a little bit of an extra stat boost on level ups compared to players. But their stats on level up are set, unlike a player who can distribute them freely.

She then went and bought some beginner armor and a short-sword with the 50 copper she started off with. Unlike most games where a player can instantly change clothes. In this game clothes and armor had real-life physics or as close to real-life one could get in the virtual world. Although they could have programmed it in they decided not to as they instead decided to add changing rooms to clothe and armor shops. The good thing though was that clothes and armor resized to fit the avatars.

Tina stored her basket of flowers and tattered clothes inside her inventory after changing into her leather armor. The first two beginner quests were quite easy, Fetch some very common low-level herbal grass and kill 10 slimes out in the same field the grass grows. The other two beginner quests although they were easy they took longer as they weren’t in the same area and slightly higher level but nothing to complain about. Slimes were between level 1-2, the horned rabbits were level 2-4 and the goblins were level 5-10 on top of had weapons. There were also wolves who were between levels 5-8 and got in the way of her horned rabbit hunting at times in the forest area. The goblins hid around and inside some caves.

Tina wanted to level up more as she was level 8 and wanted to get to level 10. But she wanted to see all the players’ reactions as they log in for the first time. Not to mention she wanted to test out her NPC powers of giving out quests. To hopefully get pity from the players she changed out of her armor and put her rags back on.

While waiting for the next 15 minutes to pass, she decided to check her status. She couldn’t help but laugh as not only did she get her NPC stats to raise as they should but also got the attribute points that a player should get. NPCs get 1 point in each stat and 2 points in the stats most suitable to their type. For example, a warrior would get 2 points in strength and constitution and 1 point in the other four attributes. A rogue would be dex and perception while Tina’s job although still locked is considered a mage so she got 2 points in intelligence and perception per level up and one in the rest. But players get 5 points per level up to distribute freely and she now has 15 extra points to put where she wants from her three gained levels.

The other advantage that she gets is that for every point of con and dex she gets 10 points of health and stamina. The same would be with int and mana but as a special NPC and being a mage type she gets 20 points of mana per point of int. Players only get 5 hp, stamina, or mana for each point in those attributes.

SteamMuppet was one of the first of the 100 people to log in before millions of others joined. He didn’t take too much time to make his character or assign his stats. He just wanted to log in and play the game so with the exception of his starting stats and race as an elf he used the random gen for his looks.

Just as he spawned in and before he could fully take the scenery of the game a kid bumped into him and fell back on her butt. When he looked down he saw a cute cat-girl in warn and torn clothing glaring at him as she angrily said, “Just because I’m homeless doesn’t mean you should bully me! Look at what you did?” He then watched as she started to tear up some, “H-how am I supposed to sell all the flowers I worked so hard to gather? They are all ruined and now I can’t make money to buy food…”

Of course, SteamMuppet didn’t know that this flower girl could see the areas where players would log into beforehand so that NPCs wouldn’t run into the players and would path around them if it was in the way. Although she used this to her advantage to con him.

As it was just a game he was just going to ignore her till he not only saw the angry stairs of other NPCs but the players who didn’t know that he had just logged in and thought he was bullying a young NPC girl. He quickly bent down and helped to pick up the flowers that spilled out of the basket as he said, “I’m sorry I’ll buy them from you.” Tina looked up at him as she asked, “R-really? Y-you mean it? You will buy all of them?”

He nodded while thinking to himself, ‘They are just flowers. How much could they cost right?’ That was till she said, “That will be 100 copper then.” He stared at her blankly as she held out her hand. He couldn’t help but ask, “How much are you selling them for? They can’t possibly 100 copper.” She glared at him, “They are 1 copper per flower and there are 100 of them. Or did you lie about wanting to pay for them? It’s your fault they all got ruined in the first place. Maybe I should just call the guards?”

He quickly waved his hands as he said, “No I just don’t have that much on me right now. But I promise you I’ll pay for them.” Tina put her hands on her hips as she glared at him, “Fine but I’ll only give you till the end of the day.”

Tina wasn’t doing this just to scam him but wanted to use this to test the ability to give out quests. Although she could have just thrown random quests out she gave herself some standards as for immersion in games. She hated games that would just have a quest randomly given for no reason or explanation at all. So after their talk, a blue screen popped up in front of SteamMuppet.

Quest:

Pay your debt to the flower girl (Forced Quest)

You had ruined the flower girl’s basket of flowers that she desperately needs to sell to live off the money. But you were kind enough to offer to repay her by the end of the day despite not having the funds just yet.

Quest completion:

Give 100 copper to the flower girl before sunset.

Reward:

100 flowers that you can use to decorate your house with or give to a potential lover.

Quest Failure:

Logging out, or failure to pay before sunset will result in the loss of -2 to all stats for angering the goddess of cute lolis.

SteamMuppet thought this quest would be easy to accomplish as he had ran off to quickly earn 50 more copper since he started out with 50. Normally it would be easy enough even for a level 1 player as slimes drop one copper each. But the game just barely opened up so all the starting fields in the game are over packed with players.

Tina smiled as she saw the player run off before she picked her basket of flowers up and started to try and sell them. Of course, her basket was special in that it would always refill any sold flowers and she still wanted to test the limits of the quest system.
