Chapter 3 - The Scream
I walked to my bed and lay down on my stomach. My breathing was steady, and I could hear my heartbeat. After a couple of minutes my eyes closed and I fell asleep.
All of sudden I heard a knock. At first, I thought it was a leaf or even a bird, but the knocking continued. Then I heard a voice. It was like they were saying my name. I lifted my head and saw it was Ace. I groaned and got up slowly. I opened the window.
"You moron...how did you get up here?"
"Oh, I climbed the tree."
"I swear you are going to kill yourself." I rubbed my eyes and stretched and looked at the owl clock behind me. It was 3 am, but it only felt like I slept for three minutes, I guess I slept for 4 hours instead. "Anyways, why are you here?"
"Do you want to come out?"
"You know what sure."
I went through the window and closed it shut. We then jumped on the tree and climbed down. The city is different at night. We started walking, and I was not sure where, but it seemed like I was following him. He never asked me to go out this late.
"How's the girl?"
"Lily? She's nice, maybe a second friend."
He stopped, and so did I. The cold wind blew through our faces, and there was silence. I waited for a response.

"Hey, Ace if you want to go out with her, I'm not stopping you" I shook nervously as tension was growing from the roots and starting to grow around my legs making me unavailable to move.
"It's not that..."
"Then what is it?"
"You've seen her thighs, right?"
"What do you mean, have I!? I'm not a pervert like you."
"It's not that. She has bruises, all over her teighs and her back."
"How did you see the back?"
"When you guys were walking, it started to rain which soaked through the white shirt making it transparent."
"Maybe she fell?"
Ace shooked his head slowly.
"They're not from an accident. It was on purpose."
"You mean self-harm?"
Ace giggled and looked behind his back, and we made eye contact.
"No, it's like she's getting beaten by someone."
The wind blew into my chest, and my heart stopped. No, it can't be anyone...or can it? I slowly walked to Ace and rested my hand on his shoulder.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure, but we can't go to the police like that. We need proof."
"Really?"
"In this city, yes. We can't just go up to them. They'll ignore it for sure. We also got to be annoyoumous."
"How will we do it?"
"Well, first we got to make sure it is abuse and thats your job. Spend time as much as possible with her."
"Why me?"
"You make her happy. I saw you guys. She couldn't stop smiling. Not going to lie, it was pretty cute."
"Dude, you're going to embarrass me."
"Okay, so here's the plan. Hang out with her as much as possible and look at her body parts each day and see if there is any difference from the days before. I know you already look at her body so this won't be a problem" He giggled under his breath.
"Shut up, would you and what about you?"
"Well, I'll be analysing and doing plans."
I look at a dumb face expression at him as I had to do most of the work.
"Don't look at me like that! Trust me; I got a plan all set up we go to find out if my theory is correct, to begin with...so we have to see if more bruises come up or the very best is to catch it in action!"
His smile went all the way up. It's like a videogame he was playing in his head. I grinned and agreed. We went to the gas station and got some food, and then I got back home. Climbed the tree and closed the window.
I laid down and faced the wall. This girl, I only met her today, and she is already a massive part of my life. We can do this. I believe.
