Chapter One: Game Masters Return

It was the year 2200, human hunger had been prevented decades ago and all ailments known to man had treatments available around the world; it was a time of unparalleled peace and prosperity for the human race. 5 years ago a mysterious corporation founded by the richest man on earth Ezra Quayle bought 99% of the earth's mines, farms, energy, and manufacturing plants and a large amount of prime real estate and put them up for rent for anyone to purchase, only they could only be purchased through the in-game currency in his newly made game ‘Aelora’ despite the world being unaware of his real intentions the worlds biggest corporations flocked to the game to acquire a slice of the facilities available to rent in-game, however, it came as a major shock to them when they realized it wouldn't be as easy to acquire the resources as they thought, due to the games unparalleled realism and difficulty, furthermore the credits in-game were hard to acquire in the quantities needed to rent the facilities. However, in the coming years, many of the top corporations and in-game guilds still found ways to acquire the large amounts of credits needed to rent many of the world's resource outlets and much of the world's population found ways to earn an income in-game.

Jace Quill, the sole gamemaster of Aelora was tasked with maintaining the peace in Aelora and stopping the various powers from exploiting the processes within the game and maintaining a real-world link between the major corporations and 'Aelora'. Although many moderators served beneath him, Jace handled large scale issues that affected the entirety of Aelora. For five years he kept the game balanced and fair and prevented many major corporations from exploiting the game to gain a real-world advantage pro. However recently many of the major corporations have found ways to exploit the game that even Jace couldn't figure out and it was become increasingly difficult to maintain order in Aelora. Hence he decided to take a weeklong holiday free from Aelora and free from technology...

In the back of the chauffeured car, Jace watched the flashing red billboards, “News alert, the Black Jade pavilion has acquired the Cuttack iron mine, the 57th one in their possession this month. Will the dark factions control all of the world's resources by next year?” “shit, I've been gone for one week” Jace muttered to himself. “It shouldn't be possible to generate credits this quickly.” Questioning his knowledge of Aelora he almost didn't notice a call from Marcus, he quickly swiped to the left, and answered, “Yeah, what's up?”

“Jace you need to get online quickly, something big is going down.” Marcus hurriedly replied

“Alright I'm coming, won't be long .” Jace hung up then signaled to the driver to hurry and quickly sped back to his penthouse apartment. He rushed through the door and into his sleek black vr pod, within seconds was online. A crisp voice resonated within his head “Jace Quill identified, logging on to Aelora” he stepped through the glowing door and into the virtual world.

Thousands of meters in the sky hovering above the continent of Aelora, Jace observed the growing tension in the Greengrove Fields, millions of players were gathered the open field, the ambient mana in the area was so dense that a light fog formed around the players' feet, “what’s going on, it can't be, a war?” thousands of thoughts rocked through Jace’s head as he wracked his brain for the cause of the fighting, “what happened in the week that I was gone from the game?” A horn bellowed in the distance and the battle began, the ambient mana in the area dropped as a large scale destruction spell was cast, turning thousands of players into ash immediately as the earth was scorched, it quickly descended into chaos as the melee players clashed and countless spells were rained down on both sides. The conflict remained largely monotonous for around two hours apart from the usual large scale destruction spells until there were 1000 players left on one side, outnumbered around ten to one. Around 100 of the team’s magic classes began chanting and a giant ball of mana covered in runes began to swirl above the battlefield glowing orange and radiating immense heat. “A sun giant spell?” Jace exclaimed, astonished “those things cost more than a first-grade iron mine” a swirling portal appeared above the battlefield and a leg the size of a bus crashed into the ground and a glowing orange giant the size of a twelve-story building emerged from the portal.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

SUN GIANT

Level: 100

HP: 100,000,000/100,000,000

The sun giant swiped at the ground and instantly killed a thousand opposing players, immediately their focus shifted from the heavily outnumbered team of a thousand players to the towering sun giant. Relieved, the outnumbered team quickly fled the area and quickly teleported away leaving the remaining team to deal with the glowing giant. Despite sustaining heavy casualties the remaining players quickly dealt with the giant, who upon death dropped a glowing ball. Jace’s face became a mask of astonishment “A sun god crystal! That is beyond rare, that can give a player the fire priest hidden class, giving them almost unparalleled fire magic control. I haven't seen one in years.” “just what is going on in this game?” Jace thoughtfully stared at the desolated battlefield for a couple of moments before logging out with a confused look on his face.

Jace looks at the news on his quantum watch, "Black Jade Pavilion wipes out team of a million players to acquire rare resource spot. Is this the end for players?"

Jace sat down on his bed wondering how to deal with the growing situation in the game and finally realized ‘I can't take the passive approach anymore I really don't like what the large corporations are doing, but I need to remain impartial in my role." Jace muttered "but it’s not working I need to make the game fun for the players and stop it from being a corporate warzone, I need to change it from the front lines without having to subtly change rules, and solve minor disputes between corporations. I know, I need to play the game and grow so powerful the corporation will fear messing with players.’ With this thought he called Marcus “Hey Marcus, I can't keep these corporations in check from my position, I need to play the game and become so powerful corporations won't mess with players, I’m stepping down from being a game master. I need to play the game for real and stop the powers from exploiting it.”

“Are you sure? This seems like a rushed decision. Replied Marcus

“I'm sure of it, this is what needs to be done”

“Ok I'll make the call, you'll have a replacement by tomorrow.”

“Thanks.” Jace ended the call and walked back into his pod. “Jace Quil identified, do you want to log into Aelora”

“No, Proceed to the character creation menu.” he walked through the glowing door and entered the game.
