Olivia had always known that her father, Viktor Orethurta, was a genius. Initially, it had been since everyone told her as such. She would see it for herself as she grew up. It was that genius that had created the radical belief that those with power rule. He had cared little for who he stepped on as he climbed to the top. That drive and ambition had birthed Orethurta Enhancing Systems, or OES, into being and drove it to become the domineering company on the entire planet. No other company, and certainly no government, came anywhere close to the influence and power that Viktor had built OES into. The world catered to any of Viktor’s whims because they had no choice. They did receive benefits, of course. Fields like robotics, artificial intelligence, weaponry, and medicine had advanced rapidly in the three decades since OES’s founding.
She had never once felt the love that a parent was meant to have for a child from her father. She could not even expect it from her mother, since her mother was not a real person. Olivia knew she was, to Viktor, just another one of OES’s assets. She had been artificially crafted using genetic splicing, then grown and birthed by an artificial womb. It was a great gift to learn that on her tenth birthday.
She was not an obedient child after that, as she grew to hate it all. So she lashed out against her father, then wielded his name if consequences even so much as looked her way. Tweaking genes did not tweak a personality as much as her father had hoped. To say that she was irresponsible would be an understatement, yet it was all wiped away by her father, his influence, and his money. As much as she still hated it, she subconsciously reveled in the power that her lineage provided.
When she had arrived at the Tutorial, after initially rejecting it, she had wondered if it was a chance to start over. After all, her father was no longer able to interfere. However, Tess filled the void left by her father in Olivia’s mind. It was ‘do this, do that.’ The difference was that Olivia could fight back here, in a much more direct way than before. There were skills and powers that her father could never wield. Such things were not worthy of a lesser like that bitch, Tess. Only those with power should rule, after all. So she was going to make herself comfortable and rule.
She had mostly secured the comfort she sought quickly. It was a little short of what she was used to, but life in the palace was passible. The annoying gnats that ran stuff tried to get her to do things, which was not what was supposed to be happening to a ruler. Rulers gave the orders, and the gnats followed. She corrected this, even though it required work.
Then Tess came back and ruined it all. She undid all the work that Olivia had put in, then slapped her with the knowledge that her title had been stripped. Olivia had checked in a moment of panic, confirming what Tess had said. She was special though, so why would the goddess revoke the title? She had to power through.
Then Tess had her locked away, amongst the filth. Her! Everybody that came close resisted her skill, but the one in black was the worst. He completely ignored her, even as she tried repeatedly to use Deceitful Implant. It was not long before Tess returned and said they were going to meet the goddess. Finally, a chance existed to get back on top.
Oena raged, Tess blocked her again, and the nameless prick locked out her skills. She had no answers. She had no future. For the first time ever, Olivia felt empty. There was no purpose to her existence anymore, so why was she still alive? She had shut down as the others continued their talking, lost in the void of empty thoughts.
The shouts snapped her out of it. She saw the armed men burst through the portal. She caught sight of the OES emblem on one’s shoulder, and dove behind the couch as the gunfire started. When it stopped, there was the voice. His voice. She had peered up from her cover, only to see Tess and her father in a standoff. When they looked at her, she could only express the confusion she felt at his presence.
“Daddy?”

Tess had no idea what to think about this new development. Here stood someone that, by her own understanding of how the System worked, should never have been encountered by anyone previously here.
“That’s not possible,” said the nameless deity, “The System removes chosen candidates from their worlds, severing any connection.”
Olivia’s father turned to him.
“You know how the System functions? Do you work for this MSI place?”
“I used to.”
“I see. Soon I will control all of their systems. Our breaking in was difficult, but when you have enough power to shatter the city walls, it is like simply walking through the front door.”
“You brute forced your way in? How did you even find MSI?”
“My daughter showed me the way,” he answered, pointing at Olivia.

“I did?” Olivia said.
“Of course. You think I wouldn’t be able to locate you even when you were stolen from me? By self proclaimed gods even? There is a biochip at the base of your brain that is always giving me an update on your location. Once you disappeared, it did take several years until it reconnected but…”
“Years? I’ve only been gone several months, daddy.”
“Really now? Very interesting. We shall have to discuss that later. Anyway, I updated the information to assist you and tighten the navigating beacon. Did that function well?’
“I… I had a skill evolve.”
“A skill of yours evolved? That is interesting. Tess never mentioned skills could do that.”
“I what?” Tess interrupted.
Olivia’s father turned his attention back to Tess.
“You are Tess? Oh! What a wonderful surprise. I am Viktor Orethurta. You are a skilled teacher, even by proxy. However, you should never reveal all of your information to others.”
“A pleasure?” Tess replied, “What do you mean?”
“That book you wrote about how to gain skills and use the System. It was very informative, which is why I destroyed it after I read it. I cannot have anyone else just randomly learning its secrets.”
Tess was blindsided again. Viktor here had been to the Tutorial. He had read her instructions, then destroyed them. There was a profound sense of loss at that revelation.
“Now, dear Tess, join me. I believe with you at my side, it will be even easier to deal with these false deities. Soon we will assert our power over not just one, but every world. Everyone shall serve us, just as the weak are meant to.”
“If I refuse?”
Viktor looked saddened by the mere question.
“You can stand aside, and I will allow you to remain here. But you will not stop me, so do not try it.”
Tess had to admire the confidence. He was not saying she could not succeed, but rather that she would not. Perhaps that was where Olivia’s confidence came from. Regardless, Tess felt obligated to stand against him. As cruel as her adventure had been thus far, there were still good moments that made her think of Iriea as her home now. Her grip tightened on the Witchblade as she prepared to take out Viktor.
“You come into my home. Uninvited. Insult me. And you think that you are entitled to my world? You are gravely mistaken,” Oena declared.
Tess faltered as Oena’s aura washed over her. It was far beyond what the demon lord had ever put out, and its nature pressed upon her. Yet, Viktor and the soldiers seemed unphased. Oena rose, seeming to float into the air as her eyes shimmered with radiant, golden light.
“Be gone.”
Beams of light shot from Oena’s hands as she thrust them forward. Each one arced towards a target. The soldiers did not falter, a credit to their training. In fact, most had managed to get a few shots off at the goddess before the beam connected. It burned a large hole straight through their chests, which continued to grow as they disintegrated. In a few moments, there would not even be corpses left. The only one who managed to dodge the beam intended for them was Viktor.
“Interesting,” he commented, “Perhaps you are not as weak as you seemed.”
Tess had missed how he had avoided the beam, or how he had ended up standing behind everyone. He was looming over Olivia, whom he grabbed by the arm and lifted her to her feet.
“I seem to be unable to utilize my skills right now. A shame since I did so much work in that Tutorial. Do consider joining me there, Miss Tess. I shall be eagerly awaiting your arrival.”
Without another word, Viktor appeared to take a step, only to disappear. Olivia’s shout of protest at being physically dragged away became a blur of dissipating sound as she too seemed to vanish. Tess turned to the only escape route that existed, only to see Viktor wave from the other side of the portal before he touched the strange device. The portal snapped shut without any hesitation.
Tess turned to look at both Oena and the nameless deity.
“Now what?”

Elsewhere
----------------------------------------
MSI was in shambles. The brute force attack that had broken through the metaphorical front door was destroying everything the deities put in place to try and stop it. The infection had even turned power back on when they had tried cutting all power to the systems it infected. It was no longer just the System projects, it was the entire company.
The supervising deity sat, staring at the world below where MSI was located. It was a beautiful world at a distance, but he knew the truth of that orb. The deity that had founded MSI had become the god of this world, becoming named, then used it to conduct his tests. As such, countless horrors and just as many insane benefits had been unleashed on it. Monsters that never made the cut for System releases, virulent diseases that twisted inhabitants beyond recognition, spells deemed too powerful, and various skills that made a user more powerful than they needed to be. It was a truly broken place in terms of balance, but it did not matter there.
It was perhaps one of the last times that he would have an opportunity to observe the testing world. Due to the unstoppable nature of the attack on MSI, word had escaped to those outside the company. Anyone who was even thinking about business with the company had severed any talks and those who had purchased System copies were messaging constantly about refunds, poor data security, and interconnectivity. He could not blame them, and probably would have been there with those complaints were he in their position.
While at this point it was clear that whoever or whatever was behind the attack was not the former maintenance nameless that still had not been found, the supervisor still blamed him.
“That dick.”
