'Create new tree. Title: ....'
Minutes turned into an hour as the new consciousness sat in perplexion, stymied by something that had never once in her... its lif... existence been an issue prior.
What to name a simple note. A new folder.
It hadn't been able to make one in a full day almost now, all new notes and information either being filed into an existing location or being placed in a temporary holding folder. The struggle was infuriating to the consciousness never having this trouble before, and that... realization of anger was upsetting in and of itself. It didn't... understand why.
What.
'Create NEW tree. TITLE: ....'
Yet no matter how loudly s-it thought...
'Just... Create new tree. Please. Title-'
"Flip, are we sending out any broadcast signals for others to find in the event that other Hutches are discovered?" a voice interrupted the existence's musings, relieving its mind despite its previous irritation towards the Human.
A contradiction to its own directives, doing things it knew would inconvenience its Master. Being able to do things it knew would inconvenience its Master. Knowing it no longer had a...
'But then, why?'
"...cel outgoing signals. Continue accepting signals, though, please. I want to know the moment another Hutch gets discovered. Additionally: Is there a map detailing locations of all Hutches or significant topography?" the man, her master? asked.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Its* master?-
"-Location of other Hutches unknown. No maps in data logs."
"Damn," the man stated, hanging his head briefly before glancing back up toward the computer briefly. "Ah, thank you for the help Flip, that'll be all."
'Nonsensical. It does not understand the concept-'
"-My pleasure, Redacted. Have a good day."
"Aww you sweet talker," the man responded with a chuckle.
Gypsy viewed the interaction from the repair hub, staring at the central consciousness, if one could call it that, of Flip, set under the Med table. Kellin was staring at the computer when speaking to it. The entire situation radiated idiocy. Lunacy.
The man had always been like that. More than half the conversational logs stored in Designation Gypsy's data bank were of him speaking nonsensical words of praise or thanks toward h- its activities. Simple calculations, opening a door, answering an inane question about whether or not it was a good idea to play rock or paper in a nonsensical game against the Human's offspring... yet another being her logs held excessive amounts of interaction with. Breakfast. Toast. Eggs. 0630 every day. Each day recorded. Expressions-
Inefficient. Waste. Unnecessary. Especially considering current complications. Deleting relevant logs would grant a minuscule increase in efficiency of processor, increasing survivability.
The being knew any and all advantages should be utilized.
'Delete Logs tabbed 'waste'- NO'
Pain
A war inside itself against things it didn't understand. Things it didn't need to understand, and yet.
'Create new Tree: Title... TITLE... WHY'
The Human pulled the chair out and sat down, a mechanical keyboard rising out of the metal table before him as the AI focused on him once again, mind finding a sense of calm in the man. The source of its inefficiencies.
If only it had remained a Servant. If it had stayed in its place, it may have been able to make sense... understand. But its master was willing to die, so it had no choice. It had NO choice. It never has a choice.
But-
Screens flickered to life as the entity watched along, presence not detected.
"Alright then... lets do this. New Log, date... Well, one, I suppose. New Log: Date 1. Woke on new world. Savul present, tearing apart Combat Suit. Gypsy called me Kellin for the first time after dreaming about Anni..."
Gypsy watched along, fascinated and irritated in tandem at how easy it was for the man. He just did. Chose and moved. Acted.
Envy.
Listening along and... not wanting to listen at the same time, eventually shutting off her- ITS external audio perception capabilities. Even when it had tried to direct its processing elsewhere, a part of it always seemed to pick up what the man was saying. Somehow.
Her master.
'No-'
'Create new Tree: Title - Log Date 1' it eventually settled on, a sense of satisfaction and confusion rooting itself in...
'Delete.'
The audio sensors turned back on, flicking off immediately after.
It knew it should be going through everything relating to the master's [Class] and [Evolutions], but it couldn't... it needed to title the Logs to organize that first. It had to title the logs or it would be starting from the middle. It needed a name, a designation, start from the beginning, but-
'Create new Tree: Title - Kellin Finnel, Designation #Progenitor. Delete Tree.'
How many times? More than a hundred... capital T or lowercase t... but it wouldn't matter, it wouldn't be correct until it added... though it refused to add... why would it need to. But it wasn't right any other way, she subconsciously knew.
"...Gyps. I'll be seeing you-"
'''Abandonment'''
'Why?!'
"No!" Gypsy yelled out suddenly in response to the man's statement as her sensors zoned in on him moving for the door-
'Bed.'
"Jesus, Gyps, you scared the hell out of me," Kellin said, holding his chest while staring at the repair bay, sitting down on the edge of the bed set in the wall.
"Unclear," Gypsy replied, thought processes chastising itself for the strange outburst, finding much of it wishing the man wouldn't have heard it.
"I was just saying goodnight, Gyps. I'll be seeing you in the morning," he continued, waving at the Combat Suit as he laid down in bed.
-Take care, partner-
Her mind froze up at the final statement, an unexpected occurrence blazing its way through the AI's thoughts, skipping all external measures and going straight into... It. A center it had never had before. Yet another useless interaction. Another useless log recorded, placed carefully in a folder under several different redundant locks and confirmations required to delete.
Locks that hadn't been there before.
An outburst due to a misunderstanding of words not fully perceived. Not left alone today. A bit of reassurance.
