Chapter 9: Circumstances and the bond shared by those of similar fate

The group of elves were all sitting around a fire, this is a normal scene to them but today they had four more companions. But there should be one more but that companion of their companion went out to hunt for game.

Instead of calling it a companion it would be better to call the one missing to be a pet.

“So um… about the bear...”

“You mean Kuma?”

Xenados immediately replied to Eliana who spoke up first to break the ice. He was now sitting face to face with the ten elves on his right is his mother on his left is Pluto behind them is Kuro.

“Did he really go out hunting?”

Eliana asked, after all the bear was just a wild animal before and now it has a master. Though she personally saw Xenados naming the bear she still didn’t put her guard down.

“I-If he went out to get some friends...”

“Don’t worry he’ll come back only with game”

Eliana wanted to voice out her thoughts, the bear was a wild animal so when he went out the chances of it coming back with a group of similar bears is very likely so she still can’t relax.

“You don’t have to worry when I saw it awhile ago that bear… no it’s not a normal Ironback Bear. Did you not realize that it was very resistant to heat and more powerful than your regular ironback bear?”

Xenados let out a bombshell question, the elves then began thinking through it. Remembering their fight they began to talk but all that came out were questions of realization.

Why did that bear not die of the Flame Pillar?, My blade didn’t even put a scratch on it’s fur, or It was’t even fazed by the barrage of fireballs I unleashed…

These were the words that mostly came out of their mouths, then as they began to realize that something was off about the bear. It’s defenses were superb and it’s strength is something that is not to be trifled with.

Seeing as the elves all focused their attention towards him Xenados let out a sigh and explained.

“You see Kuma is not a regular Ironback bear, he’s a half-breed, an Ironback Demon Bear. Monsters and beast don’t care if their kin are half-breeds or not but Kuma is a bear. In nature bears take care of their kin until they can fend or live by themselves. Kuma is not a child but we could say a teen”

The elves looked at Xenados with great respect oozing from their eyes. They finally realized that they shouldn’t have attacked the bear without assessing it’s battle prowess.

“Well if it were a regular Ironback bear you all could have easily hunted it but even if it were a similar race to Kuma, the differences are not that apparent. The only way to realize that they are of a different species or a mixed blood is when they fight, well not all are similar to kuma that looks like a regular ironback bear but cases like this are not that rare”

Xenados began to say words and information from his past memories…

(To think that I know so much but my intelligence stat is this low...)

He then remembered his stats, he understood that the stats shown are that of his body, using his soul he would assess his own body and realize that his real intelligence don’t match with his intelligence stat.

But Xenados knows that the stats are simply a basis for the functioning of the body in the current world. The soul is powerful but the intelligence stat is mostly used as a basis for things like mana control or things related to casting magic.

Each world has different laws, they also have varying types of mana, in this case Xenados understands that the mana of this world is a new one to him.

(Having low intelligence is not necessarily a bad thing after all, the only thing I need to do is slowly merge my soul and mana with this world and then it would surely increase.)

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

When one merges his body with the laws of the world he isn't necessarily becoming an all powerful being. Most of the time when this is done the soul simply gets more powerful at mana control.

Mages store mana in their body, the higher the density and purity the more powerful the spells cast becomes. When merging with the world the acquisition of mana becomes faster and the purity of the mana absorbed gets higher.

Of course this only counts for worlds with mana those without well, take earth as an example.

(In any case a world with magic has it better of as their life would be much easier but to think that out of the many worlds I’ve been through only a few were able to merge magic and science)

Xenados was wondering about this, a world where magic and science was present would only bring disaster, science would counter magic and magic would counter science.

The reason for this is magic bends the laws of the world wherein science uses the laws to their advantage.

A prime example of this is weapons, in a world of magic mages would use their mana to create a phenomenon to launch fireballs towards their enemies, whereas science would use gas to create a flamethrower.

The two sides won’t ever get along but this gave Xenados a great advantage.

(Even world travelers failed to notice this, it might be the power of my soul but to use science to strengthen magic is the secret that I use to make powerful magic with low mana cost, let’s not mention alchemy where all I need is knowledge in chemistry)

Xenados was snickering as he thought about the idiocy of the scientist and mages who fail to accept that their magic or science is equal. Continuing to believe that their views are right they halt the advancement of the two concepts.

While he was snickering and laughing for some reason the elves were looking at him full of admiration. They felt that Xenados who is a beast master and is also knowledgeable with beast and can take down the Ironback Demon bear and even subdue it turing it to one of it’s pets.

For all of these to be done by a half-blood like them, at a young age even made them even more proud.

[gauu!]

As this weird seen was playing out a low roar pulled them all back to reality, the Ironback demon bear came back on it’s back are the carcases of multiple beast. The thing is the carcasses all died in a similar fashion.

“All of them died of internal bleeding, they are still fresh and the blood is good enough”

Yes, Xenados ordered Kuma, the Ironback demon bear to hunt game but make sure they don’t bleed so much that there's no blood left. In the cave the only thing he ate was fishes and since they were rushing through the forest avoiding beast Xenados only had the ration of fishes they caught to eat the whole way till they met the elves.

Xenados casually lifted out a deer from the back and called over the elves.

When the elves were next to Xenados he then started telling them what to do.

“I will take this deer for myself, I need to suck blood out but I feel like when I’m done all that will be left of this deer is a dried up corpse. The other game you use it all for food and whatever other things it could be used for.”

“Thank y-”

“No need to thank me we are after all in similar situations”

Seeing Xenados acting normally and even being able to talk to the dark elves casually made her shed a tear.

~~~~~~~Xenados POV~~~~~~
The dark elf girls happily accepted my offer and started skinning and draining the blood of the other game.
They asked me if I would take the blood from the other game so they would collect them in a bowl, which they had in their bags.
I told them I didn’t need it after all already have this deer, the reason I took this deer is because out of all carcasses this sustained the least damage, the only thing it had was a broken rib that punctured it’s lungs causing it to die of asphyxiation.
The heart is still better of than the rest and the body still has a bit of warmth, this might be the last game Kuma hunted before he came back.
[chomp]
The fresh blood of the deer was sucked by my canines, the blood I realized turned into some sort of energy. It’s not mana but something else, let’s call it blood energy, well this blood energy it went throughout my body and improved my muscles.
I continued to suck and before I knew it the whole deer already turned into a dried up corpse. The skin was white as ashe and what’s left of the fat deer is only skin and bones.
I felt something inside my body so I sat up cross legged and began meditating, this practice was one where I was able to easily circulate energy throughout my whole body.
The blood energy turned out to be the reason that Vampires become so powerful, the energy in the blood assimilates into the muscles of a vampire and strengthens it. The mass of the muscles don’t increase but they become harder, this… could it be the cheat to get the muscles as strong as steel?
No not only my muscles, my bones, organs and even the blood vessels are all getting stronger but then they stopped and the strength dissipates into my body…
The strength gained by my body when using is directly proportional to the strength of where the source. This time the blood energy came from the deer, in which it’s power is all in it’s legs. I guess no I have stronger legs and can run faster also having better endurance than most humans…
“Xenados dinners ready!”
Mom called me and the elves all waved their hands telling me to come closer.
We all sat around the campfire and then the elves began telling their story…
“And that’s what happened until we met you”
The elves seem to have gone through much pain especially the little lass Kaylin, she was the most hurt in the village and to think that she’s the one who used the Flame Pillar.
For her to be able to cast it at her young age proves her intelligence and skill, she may be one of those natural born mages. Well since they told me their story I told them mine only…
“ *sniff* To think that you were treated like that! *sniff* ”
“I understand…*sniff* I really understand *sniff* ”
Not only Kaylin and and Eliana even the other eight elves were quietly weeping at my story. Is that story of being thrown out at a young age that sad?
I think that it may be due to my past lives but I feel like this should really be sad. Well what matters is that we have an understanding and so I ask them.
“Do you want to travel with me?”
Hearing my question the elves all looked at me with a sparkle in their eyes… Is traveling with me that good? Well I do have three powerful b east for protection. But their words and reasons shocked me.
“If we go together we could start a kingdom, A kingdom where half-breeds and mixed bloods could live peacefully!”
I have my doubts and feel something ominous from their declaration of kingdom building but let’s see… it doesn’t sound so bad… should I try it? Well let’s leave that for later, first of all we have to get through this forest yeah then we’ll talk about kingdom building.
