Chapter Zero Point Two: Farpoint

The Adamantis made its way to Farpoint, an old station now bustling with trade. Vermond was lost in thought, worrying about their next steps. He kept an eye on the unconscious woman in the medical room. Though still out cold, her condition was improving.

Vermond, glancing at the fuel gauge and speaking to himself

Vermond: "Just enough to get us there. Come on old man hang in there."

The woman stirred slightly, her eyes fluttering open. Vermond leaned in and spoke gently.

Vermond: "Hey, you're safe now. Just rest. We'll be at Farpoint soon."

She looked at him briefly before slipping back into unconsciousness. With a sigh, Vermond turned his attention back to the controls.

Vermond, to himself: "I hope they have what we need... and maybe some answers about who she is."

Farpoint loomed into view, a cluster of ships and buildings on a desolate rock. Vermond activated the comms.

Vermond: "This is Vermond Mendoza of the Adamantis, requesting permission to dock."

Dockmaster, through the static: "Okay, Adamantis. Dock at bay three. Make it quick we’re busy today."

Vermond: "Got it. Docking at bay three."

He skillfully maneuvered the Adamantis into place and docked the ship. Once the doors sealed and the artificial gravity kicked in, Vermond took a deep breath and headed to the medical room.

Vermond: "Alright, let’s get you some help."

He carefully lifted the woman and carried her to the station's med center, where he was met by a sharp eyed, older woman.

Dr. Hayes: "What’s the issue?"

Vermond: "Found her in a wreck. Life support was failing. Can you help her?"

Dr. Hayes: Nodding "We’ll do our best. You need some rest too. You look exhausted."

Vermond, with a tired smile: "Feels like it. Thanks, Doc."

As the medical team took the woman away, Vermond made his way to the trade hub. The market was bustling, filled with the sounds of haggling and the smells of food and machinery. He spotted a familiar face, Jax.

Jax: "Vermond! Long time no see! What do you have for me?"

Vermond: "An energy cell, some preserved food, and a comm device. What can you offer for them?"

Jax examined the items closely.

Jax: "The energy cell is good. Food is always in demand. The comm device... decent. I can give you enough credits for a couple of weeks' supplies. Deal?"

Vermond: Nods "Deal. And throw in a few extra nutrient pills."

Jax, laughing: "You drive a hard bargain, Vermond. Alright, it’s a deal."

With the trade completed, Vermond gathered his supplies and headed back to the Adamantis. Just as he was about to board, a voice called out.

Voice: "You’re Vermond Mendoza, right?"

He turned to see a young man in a worn flight suit.

Vermond: "Yeah, that’s me. Who’s asking?"

Young man: "I’m Kiah Carla. I heard you helped someone out there. I’m looking for work. Got room for one more?"

Vermond, raising an eyebrow: "What can you do?"

Kiah: "I’m a pilot, mechanic, and good with a blaster. And I don’t eat much."

After a moment's thought, Vermond nodded.

Vermond: "Alright, Kiah. Welcome to the Adamantis. It’s not an easy life."

Kiah, grinning: "Easy is boring. Let’s get to work."

With Kiah now part of the crew, Vermond felt a bit more hopeful. An extra pair of hands could make all the difference. As they prepared to leave Farpoint, Vermond’s thoughts returned to the woman. Who was she, and what had happened to her ship? He hoped they’d find out soon.

Vermond: "Alright, Kiah. Strap in. We’ve got a galaxy to explore."

As the Adamantis left Farpoint behind, Vermond felt the excitement of a new journey ahead, filled with countless adventures waiting to unfold.
