Resurrecting my “friends”
(Third party’s POV)
“This is terrible, General” (report soldier)
“What you idiot? Can’t you see that I’m busy” (Main General)
The General is busy eating and drinking away while the army is fighting at the forefront.
“We lost our front defenders to a ditch when the army march forward. And our strongest cavalry has come across massive land mines trap when trying to engage the Demon army from a flanking position” (report soldier)
“What the forward general is doing? He’s an incompetent SOB. I will personally kill him for that. That’s not enough. His family would have to die for the betrayal he did. It is treason. I will definitely bring this up in the court martial!” (Main General)
All the commanding of the army in the frontline is left for the forward army general, which allows for the main general to wash his hands clean whenever there is a military campaign failure, and claim majority of the credits if the campaign is successful. It is a wonder why humanity haven’t fall apart yet, and it is also the reason that the campaign against the demon army is very slow and long, with huge casualties on the human side, plus huge consumption of resources that can be used to improve the already poor daily lives of peasants in the kingdom.
All this matters little to the main general, as he is busy lining his purse with more gold coins. His greed for money, food, and young girls know no bounds. Unfortunately for the hero’s party, they all don’t know this underlying fact as they only viewed him as a respectable general with many years and achievements with all the medals and plates sticking on him. He also has proper court manners, and created an aura of a reliable army general in front of important figures like the King, the hero, and his party. He is also the main proposer for the idea of summoning the hero. They got a great boon in this summon as the hero was summoned along with seven of his classmates, giving them a huge military gain as the collateral otherworlders also possess significant amount of natural talent, more than an elite soldier so to speak.
With the human army in disarray and the hero’s party at death’s door, the magician revealed his trump card spell, the Resurrection magic phenomena. Because the magician’s affinity is not healing, he cannot use high-ranking counter-hex spells or potent healing spells to save the hero party. The most he can heal is just pierce or cut wound. A mage is suppose to save mana to cast offensive spells, but due to the hero’s party strange arrangement, the party’s mage have to do both damage dealing spells and also healing the party members that got injured. The soldiers’ injuries are also tended by the mage as the cleric is told to save mana for in case of emergency. At first glance, it may seem like the right decision. But for the mage, the hero’s party is getting their priorities upside down.
The battleground shine brightly, with the mage’s body as the centre. Countless hail of arrows strike the mana shield of the mage, but the mana shield manage to hold out that attack while cracking here and there under duress from Demon Lord’s army attack.

“Protect the mage while he cast his spell, go into formation D” (Forward army general)
At least one decent human being is in the army, as he commanded the belligerent soldiers to form a defensive wall around the mage while he call upon his magical phenomena to turn the tide of battle. The army made use of any wooden material, iron plates, or stones to for a ring around the mage and guard him with their body.
The mage continues to shine brightly, then a blue astral body came out of his body and hovers in the air one metre away from him. The blue astral body wave its hand in a goodbye signal to the mage, then begins to decay quickly from head to toe, scattering blue lights that fly towards every direction. While the blue lights are travelling around the battlefield, the dead bodies of human began to quiver, and any demon soldier caught by the blue light have their soul drained out of them, leaving an empty husk as they drop down suddenly, soulless.
The spectacle shocked the Demon General for a bit, but he held his ground by invoking defensive magic phenomena around the demon army together with some shamans. The blue light was halted and cannot spread past the defensive barrier. The demon general signaled with his hand for the larger sized Minotaurs with their axe and Lamias with large aegis shield to take the front and slowly charge the human army. Aegis shield are excellent magic shield that can repel and negate most of the vile spells thrown at them, and it also has high durability to withstand big physical attacks for a long period of time.
The hero’s party got up from their lull, as if waking up from a long slumber.
“What the hell man. I thought I was dead a moment ago” (Dual swordsman)
“This is not what I have expected. It felt as if we have died. Our resistance must have helped us back then. Oh ya, also thanks for the epic healing, Ester. (Shielder)
“….” (Cleric Ester, was silenced by the Hero before she can voice her opinion)
Ester is the name of the cleric.
“Urgh, the nightmare. It felt so surreal” (Archer)
The logistical support and scout of the hero’s party is elsewhere, also got revived after they got to the edge of death due to the terrible hex done by the Demon General specifically to take out the hero’s party. That’s because the hero’s party has been too infamous for their achievements and exploits during the earlier skirmishes that the demon upper echelon has taken special precaution against them.
“All people in my party, assemble. Other soldier that can still fight, rally behind me” (Hero)
They followed the hero’s instruction without delay and prepare to face the demon army.
Before the hero charge forward, the forward army general have a word with the hero.
“Stop this madness. We can’t charge forward with you alone facing the entire demon army. We must fall back and regroup again.” (Forward army general)
“Ahh, shut the hell up you coward. I am the hero, did you knock your head somewhere? Do your amnesia act on you and you forgot all the achievements I did, and how great I am facing against an army myself? In fact, I don’t agree with this operation being done with the aid of you people. I can slaughter the entire Demon Lord army myself just fine” (Hero)
“This and that are different. The scale is different. The demon are a dangerous being. They have more mana than a human, and have many talents that are above the elite human inborn naturally in them” (Forward army general)
“Listen here. Say anymore and your head goes flying. If I tell the king that you are a traitor for the demon army, whom do you think they would believe, huh? I believe and proven myself alone is worth thousands of those weak demons, and you are below those weak demon. Just stay like the sheep you are and watch me bring back victory. Don’t forget to prepare a banquet for my victory celebration, that is most important.” (Hero)
With that final straw, the forward army general relented, and allows the hero and his party to take command of the few remaining soldiers and charge into danger.
Many of the soldiers that got revived got recruited by the hero, and they too, in their blind belief that the hero and his party can bring them back to life once again if they died, charge straight into the demon army, to their death.
All this while, the mage has fallen into a deep slumber, guarded by few remaining soldiers that aided him when he cast the Resurrection spell. Many of them have been slain, revived, only to be slain again with the ferocious arrow and magic attacks of the demon army. No one can be sure if he is still alive, and his heart beat has been irregular and soft, almost in like a death-like state. But his earlier effort seems to be in vain.
