As the sun shines high in the sky, I stand in the middle of the field. The field where it all happened. The field which now sits with holes in the ground and dried up blood. What used to be a symbol of a new era and peace is now a sad and empty reflection of what it used to be. As I stand in the field, I am transported back. Back to the war. The war that was Lost by the human race.
I stand in the field where the aliens declared the fight would be. My weapon along with thousands of others drawn to the sky. All around me, thousands of soldiers. To my left was my friend Chris. We had done a lot together. We were always close. To the right, Evan. Me and him hung out with Chris a lot. We would hang most afternoons after school, the three of us were like an unbreakable trio.
We had been standing for over 3 hours with our weapons drawn to the sky. Expecting something to happen. The world around us was quiet. The only sounds being made was the sound of breathing and occasional coughing. After another 45 minutes, Chris tries to lighten the mood by saying
“Hey, are we sure this isn’t just an elaborate April fool’s joke?” A few people, including myself, let out a chuckle. It was enough to at least lighten the mood. I glance slightly at him and quietly say “Nice One”. He lets out a soft chuckle. Today had been stressful. Aliens declaring war on earth for no apparent reason.
Suddenly, a bright light bleeds through earth’s atmosphere. The light was bright enough to temporarily blind and disorient us. This is it. I say to myself as I tighten my grip on my weapon. After a few minutes, the mothership lands. The rumble of the engine shakes the ground as it makes its landing. For a moment after landing, nothing. But this was it. This was the beginning of the war. There was no turning back. The moment they rushed out, the gunfire will start.
After a moment, the door opens in a loud screech. We all instinctly move backwards as to not be crushed by the door. When the door lands on the ground, thousands upon thousands of aliens rush off of the ship and come barreling at us on all fours. The second they made their moves, millions of bullets ripped through the air

The next several moments were filled with both screeching, screams, and gunshot. As I look around the battlefield, hundreds of bodies lay there. Motionless. some of them have expressions of fear, while others had no faces, as If they were ripped off by the aliens.
“FALL BACK!” I hear a soldier yell. Almost immediately afterwards, soldiers began turning back and running, tripping over each other, and the bodies of their fallen comrades.
As I begin to run, I suddenly freeze as I come face to face with one of them. We are standing there, looking at each other’s eyes. I can see myself in the reflection of his glossy black eyes. He opens his mouth wide showing hundreds of sharp, pointed teeth. Drool drips from its tongue. He is imagining me as its food.
“JACKSON! YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF THERE!” Chris Yells as he fires a few rounds into the back of the Aliens head. Once it is down, I make a run for Chris and we both head off of the battlefield as everyone else who is still alive is doing.
“Where are we going?” Chris yells to me. As I continue to run, I take a moment to think. Suddenly, it hits me,
“OUR CAVE. WE’LL BE SAFE THERE.” I yell back. He nods and we both continue running.
We run for a solid 25 minutes across the medium sized town. At the edge of the town sits a large bridge and underneath the bridge, was a large cave that Me, Evan, and Chris had made into a hideout for after school. Once we make it to the bridge, I sit down and catch my breath. Chris also catches his breath but he doesn’t sit.
“What the hell are we going to do now?” He asks.
“I have no idea. Hide out until morning.” I say looking down at my watch. “Did you happen to see Evan?” I ask
“Last I saw him; he was running away with the rest of the crowd. I did see him make it off of the battlefield so that’s good.” Chris replies. I nod in agreement and close my eyes
“Jackson!” I hear Chris say. When I open my eyes, I am snapped back into the present. I am still in the field. The filed with the holes, and dried up blood. Chris comes up behind me
“We’ve gotta go.” Chris says to me pointing to my watch. 7:45. 15 minutes ‘till curfew. As I turn around and make my way towards the exit of the field, the past flashes in my mind. The cries, the terror, pain. The screeching, and the bullets. The motionless bodies. All forever engrained in my mind.
