Chapter 4: Queen

Chapter 4: Queen

Devian woke up with a start.

Oddly, he wasn't confused. Remembering what he was before becoming a spirit made everything clear and simple.

What he felt mostly though was anger; Anger towards the humans and their every trait.

The fact that they kill for desire and gain, that they enslave and torture was something completely different than anything nature created.

The anger was consuming him, and soon that was all he could think of. He burned with it remembering how they took advantage of his poverty to use him in the name of faith.

Even those warriors that attacked the mammoth for sport.

Or those adventurers that seek out riches.

They disgusted him beyond anything else.

And on that moment, beside his new spider friends, he vowed revenge sharing every bit of emotion he felt to them.

And they agreed with him which wasn't surprising as they would do anything he commanded anyway.

He got up.

He noticed his leg was healed so he didn't waste anytime heading directly to on of the nests. Not knowing how, he felt their presence and he knew exactly where they were.

Just like he felt things when he was a spirit, and that definitely helped as he needed more forces in order to get back at the humans. The spiders were the easiest to get now for he knew the most about them.

After half a day he arrived at a small hill with no green life.

The ruins of an ancient village.

A great home for spiders, really he was jealous.

The first spider he saw was at the outskirts of the area, and his first impression was formidable. He was different from spider-1 and 2 as he seemed healthier, bigger and stronger.

This clan must be quite strong, looks like my luck isn't bad.

The spider stepped aside without hesitation, and that was the thing with spiders.

If you are one they trust you, as simple as that.

because under no circumstances does a spider betray. Devian didn't need any proof after seeing his minions rush to execute his orders.

As he went in further, he noticed how the village was laid out with roofless small buildings and barren lands. It was small, sure, but the houses were tightly fit together making a lot of room for webs.

On that day, Devian met a proper spider clan and for the first time he gets to see how the professionals worked.

And then he met the queen.

Saa'l she was called, and she was slightly bigger than Devian, except her form was different like it was more suited for combat.

Her legs were sharper at the end and her body had tougher scales.

She resided at the most worn out building at the end of the road.

As he entered the only building with four walls still intact, he was stunned at the beauty of the place.

The webs there were magnificent, nothing like the ones he created himself and were definitely on a different rank than the ones spider-2 created despite his efforts.

The knots they made reflected the sunlight somehow and made different abstract pictures for each point of view, and for each time of day. He made a mental note to ask her the secret.

Greetings, foreigner She announced with a high pitched seductive voice what brings you into our humble home

Conversations between spiders were simple, all you had to do was open up your mind and you can communicate. Very different from those petty humans who hide their intentions spitting out foul lies.

I seek to unite the spiders against a common enemy. The humans. Devian said seriously getting straight to the point

The humans? And why would we bother ourselves with the humans?

She replied with a seemingly joking tone as if not interested at all. Strange thing about spiders, even though they communicate mind to mind they can still add tones.

They are vile creatures, and they bring death to our forest just for entertainment! They destroy the lands building villages and cities to call their own and they tear down trees for weapons! Are all those reasons invalid to you? Devian replied without bothering to contain his anger.

Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

He realized he was showing more emotions than he intended, like a human.

That must have made here suspicious. Damn, ever since I ate those people I've been acting strangely.

And say… what could you do about it? Even if I were to join with you we would hardly be a bother for them. They have kingdoms as vast as earth itself and troops enough to fill them. As such I reckon a former human would hardly pose a threat. she finished.

She knew he had been a human ever since he walked in there.

And Devian, a bit surprised, wasn't flustered. He'd been intending to tell her anyway for an alliance based on lies wasn't one he wished to have.

I don't intend to stop here, I'll unite the whole planet if I have to in order to break them. He replied.

Well you certainly didn't expect me to just charge headfirst with you into battle did you? If I'm going to join your expedition, you will do me a favor. You see, lately the inscestors are getting annoyingly restless, attacking clan after clan. Certainly since you think yourself to be worthy of attacking the humans, you could take care of the meager inscestors, could you not? I'll give you a unit of my weakest children, and I expect them to be quite capable after you're done with them. So, this is your quest abandoned human if you choose to accept it. Destroy the inscestors nest and raise my children.

"I accept."

----------------------------------------

The weakest unit turned out to be truly weak unlike the ones he saw entering the clan.

There were 8 of them, and they highly resembled spider-1 and 2 but a little less experienced.

Spider-1, after his numerous kills in search of food has grown quite dedicated to killer strikes, ending the battle with one move.

Spider-2 would slow the enemy down with strings and poison for someone else to take it out.

Therefore he decided to split his unit onto two: one for each.

After that, he head out.

Even though Saa'l didn't ask for a time limit, he wanted to through with it as soon as possible, eager to face the humans again.

His first task was to find them.

He had no other choice but to use his old sensing ability, just like he did to find his way here.

Kneeling down, he focused on everything at the same time.

Every sound.

Every smell.

Every creature.

The leaf that just fell 20 miles away.

The fight between a snake and a cat.

The sun high above.

And suddenly, he found them; large creatures making a constant buzzing sound with their wings.

Their nest was made up of several trees with connected branches.

He tried to remember everything he knew about them from when he was a spirit.

Obviously their stings were poisonous, so they were hardly effective against the spiders who already have poison in their system.

So what exactly made them more powerful than us?

Their antennas, Devian suddenly remembered that he has never seen them get ambushed. They can sense us coming, that's why we always fail.

Stressing on that piece of information he sat for while deciding on an attack plan.

Doing so, he felt a strange deja vu kind of thing. He grimaced as he remembered that he did the same thing back at the monastery in his previous life.

Looks like i have a knack in getting myself into helpless situations

Thought devian, sighting.
