Chapter 14: Infernia

Two weeks had passed since the grand celebration in Serpent's Cross, and the alliance between humans and elves had grown stronger. The coasts of Ashenfeld stood fortified, lined with twenty formidable battleships that bristled with anticipation. Among them, the five newly completed skylances gleamed proudly, symbols of innovation and unity.

Eadric and Talindra, their unwavering resolve evident in their eyes, stood at the helm of the largest skylance. The vessel towered above the others, its sleek form cutting through the air with grace and power. They were accompanied by a select group of skilled warriors and mages, ready to face the perils that awaited them.

As the skylance soared through the skies, leaving Serpent's Cross behind, the verdant mainland of Evermore gradually gave way to the vast expanse of the open sea. The winds whipped through their hair, carrying with it a sense of both determination and apprehension.

Their destination lay ahead—an island named Infernia, shrouded in mystery and peril. The dormant volcanic island, its jagged peaks wreathed in smoke and ash, represented the heart of the shiftlings' power. It was here that they had made their stronghold, plotting the destruction of the newfound unity between humans and elves.

Eadric gripped the helm tightly, his gaze fixed on the distant island. He felt a mixture of excitement and caution, knowing that their journey would be fraught with danger. He turned to his companions, his voice steady but laced with urgency.

"We stand on the precipice of our final battle. Infernia awaits, harboring the threat that seeks to undo all we have achieved. But fear not, for we are united, and our resolve is unyielding. Today, we fight not just for our people, but for the future of Evermore!"

The words echoed through the skylance, kindling the flames of determination within each warrior's heart. Talindra stepped forward, her elven grace commanding attention.

"We have come far, forging bonds that transcend our differences. The power of unity courses through our veins, fueling our purpose. Let the spirit of cooperation guide us as we face the darkness that lurks on Infernia."

With their words of encouragement resonating in the air, the skylance surged forward, piercing through the clouds towards Infernia. The island loomed larger with each passing moment, its ominous presence casting a shadow over their hearts.

As they approached, the battleships and skylances formed a formidable armada, their combined strength a testament to the unity they had achieved. The assault on Infernia began with a thunderous onslaught, weapons blazing and spells illuminating the darkened skies.

The shiftlings were prepared for such an assault, but only partially. They knew of their battleships, but were not prepared for the unrelenting force of the skylances. Nonetheless, a band of shiftlings quickly turned into water walking monstrosities, also known as Krakens.

Eadric and Talindra led the charge, their skylance weaving through the chaos with unparalleled agility. They unleashed their combined powers, their magical energy intertwining and amplifying. Bolts of lightning and torrents of fire rained down upon the shiftlings, engulfing them in a tempest of destruction.

On the largest battleship was General Sebastian, he was not known for his magic abilities, but more for his perilous leadership and swordsmanship. With a quick spellcast from assisting mages on deck, Sebastian and a band of five heavily armored warriors could now walk on water with an enchantment set to their boots.

They took charge on the ten krakens that stood fifty feet tall, hoping to distract them from damaging their battleships. The krakens, arm to arm, launched an unlikely spell into the sky, causing a massive shift in weather. With the waters now moving with aggression and lightning surrounding the battlefields, a fear grew upon the army of Evermore.

The battle raged on, each moment fraught with peril and sacrifice. The warriors fought with unwavering determination, their movements choreographed in perfect harmony. Eadric and Talindra's bond shone bright, their unity a beacon of hope amidst the chaos.

The skylances would quickly make their descent to the shores of Infernia, after many concussive blows to the new aircrafts, they prevailed in landing safely. Boarding ramps were lowered to the ashy ground. 1,250 troops of mages, warriors, and rogues created a new front on the land.

Ahead of them were the shiftlings, they began shapeshifting into beings that have never been seen on the lands of Evermore. Demonic-like figures began to rise, ten feet tall with black horns and purple colored sharp wings. Their teeth turned into hundreds of sharp needle fangs, while also bearing claws tipped with diamonds to shred through the various armors of Evermore.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

"THIS IS FOR EVERMORE, WE SHALL DIE IF IT ENSURES PEACE UPON OUR LANDS!" Eadric yelled with a booming tone.

Talindra could easily spot the weakness of these beings. They had scaly skin, but noticed a particularly underdeveloped spot on the necks of these demons.

"Soldiers! Aim for the throat!" She screamed with a shrieking voice.

The heavy guards took the very front, followed by battlemages, behind them were the rogues, and lastly the archers. Using their pure steel shields, the guards protected the torsos of the battlemages. An onslaught of various enchanted arrows screaming through the sky, hoping to buy time for the rogues and battlemages to pursue.

Eadric's fingertips started to explode in unfathomable lightning, stunning the forefront of demons. At this moment, the other battlemages beside him casted a heavy steam cloud, engulfing the frontlines of the pursuing demons. This gave the rogues a chance to use their clearsight skill, where they learned to see through the fogs of the world, they would use this advantage to start stabbing through their throats.

Unfortunately, these creatures moved with much haste and speed. Though they caused a good plenty to die very quickly, the surviving demons utilized their wings to create a tornado that would absorb Eadric's lightning and cause the fog to vanish. To no luck, about one hundred rogues would be lifted by the tornado, getting electrocuted all at the same time. As it dissipated, the rogues and fallen demons were sent to the waters to perish.

All while this happened, Sebastian and his guards had reached the krakens. Their battle plan was to slice through their ankles, and they succeeded to complete their goal. causing them to fall and float above the water. This would allow the many battleships to launch a complete barrage of arrows, magic missiles and even some ships ramming through the bodies of the sea monsters.

Unfortunately, one battleship was grabbed by a kraken while another had casted its final spell. With one arm stretched to the sky, a tension of pure otherworldly electricity cracked and bolted through the center of the battleship, rendering it useless.

The unknown was still bound to happen as the kraken that had a hold of the ship's bow, would cause mass destruction for the 250 troops. A large energy built up in the core of the kraken, you could see a light glowing underwater. In an instant, the kraken dispersed, a suicide explosion of lightning and unwavering pressure blew the ship apart, leaving nothing but planks and body parts.

The remaining nine krakens, defeated, yet still barely clenching onto their lives would begin the same fate. Sebastian and his five men, stuck upon the waters that the krakens laid upon, held each other arm and arm.

"For Evermore." They said in unison, as a flash of uncontrollable light consumed them.

The remaining battleships had moved past the krakens just prior to this happening. As the explosive energy filled the waters, it pushed the battleships at uncontrollable speeds. The remaining battleships had been sucked into the shores of Infernia. All that remained was the demonic front that they knew to be the shiftlings.

Understanding what had to be done, the troops that were still able to fight, would emerge from the shores and join Eadric in battle. The onslaught of warriors, mages, and many alike had devoured the remaining demons. The only usable vessels to escape the island were the skylances now.

As the last remnants of the shiftlings were vanquished, silence fell upon Infernia. The island, once a bastion of darkness, now lay defeated and smoldering. The alliance between humans and elves had prevailed, and Evermore stood united.

Eadric and Talindra stood side by side, their chests heaving with exhaustion but their spirits alight with triumph. They looked out at the battlefield, a testament to the resilience and strength of their people.

"We have prevailed," Eadric said, his voice tinged with both relief and reverence. "Our unity has brought us victory, and together we have secured a future where humans and elves can thrive."

Talindra nodded, a soft smile gracing her lips. "Indeed, Eadric. Our journey has been fraught with challenges, but it is in overcoming them that we have forged a bond that cannot be broken. This victory is a testament to the power of unity and the indomitable spirit of Evermore."

And as they stood on the volcanic island, the wind carrying the scent of victory, Eadric and Talindra knew that their journey was far from over. The golden age they had envisioned for Evermore had taken root, but it required their continued vigilance and unity to thrive.

With hearts filled with hope and determination, they turned their gaze towards the horizon, knowing that their adventures in the world of Evermore would continue. Together, they would face whatever challenges awaited them, united in their quest for a future where humans and elves walked hand in hand, their destinies forever entwined.

"You think wrong, pitiful creatures." a loud voice had spoken.

Eadric, Talindra, and the many troops heard it come from the core of the dormant volcano. As their eyes were set on the peak of Infernia, ten large dragons pursued them. Everybody was standing in a group formation, Eadric and Talindra directly in the middle.

The dragons surrounded them, floating above them. No weapons that they had could possibly defeat these monstrosities. Eadric readily pushed all of his remaining magic, from the lessons taught, mysteries unraveled, and the celestial mages that he had consumed, he could only protect with defense.

"Say goodbye to your pathetic lives! Remember me, Tookami, ruler of dimensions! " the largest dragon shouted!

The dragons mustered up all of their strength, their bellies glowing a pure red, and all at once they would release the strongest flames known to exist in an attempt to burn every last warrior to ashes.

"DOME OF PROTECTION, EVERMORE SAVE US!" Eadric yelled.

A dense light barrier formed around everybody, all of the mages utilized the remains of their magic to assist in Eadric's defense. An inevitable light would follow, leaving the battlefield blind.
