4679 year. Triassic. Thorengard.
Metallost.
I walked through the city. The Adventurer's Guild was at the very center of it. It looked majestic, even more like a museum from the outside. The center of Thorengard was generally a haven of nobility and luxury.
I was about to enter the building, but I heard a scream. Some ragamuffin put a blade to the neck of a small nobleman, who strangely found himself alone.
- I need money!!! Give me a hundred thousand gold coins, - the penniless criminal squealed.
He did not let the guards near him, threatening to make two half-hearted boys out of one boy. And the archers and magicians were afraid to hurt the boy. This is where I came up with a plan.
I attacked the vagrant with dark magic. He fell down and didn't move. It was a curse [Sleep]. The whole crowd began to clap, and the parents of the little one, bursting with gratitude, gave me a whole thousand gold pieces. This is all wonderful, of course. But the main thing is glory! All you had to do was be in the right place at the right time.
The crowd introduced himself as Matt Lost, an itinerant adventurer. So, my name first gained fame. After a couple more admiring remarks, I bowed modestly and entered the Guild.
Surprisingly, there weren't many people inside. I went to the reception desk. They turned out to be a man. Hurray, at least here without a template. But why am I happy? A pretty girl would have been much more suitable for this role. Although, it doesn't matter.
- I would like to register and take the first task - I began immediately.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"Your name, race, age, and desired rank," the young man replied politely, not even looking at me.
- Matt Lost, 19, human, S rank.
“Okay, your application is under…” He broke off and looked at me with a surprised look. - Are you sure? S rank quests - suicide.
"Consider me an optimistic suicidal," I answered nonchalantly, not even knowing if I knew the word. It's not a joke, I really am. - What are the S rank missions?
- Well, let the earth rest in peace to you.
It looks like he doesn't care about me. He began listing tasks. I was only interested in one of them.
- Clearing the dungeon? Just? I asked.
- Yes, but this dungeon is terribly difficult. Each reconnaissance unit dies, sometimes even the most experienced and famous. We already wanted to attract 12 Apostles, but they are not up to us now.
- I'm taking it.
“But even we don’t know what kind of monsters are there!!!
- I know the danger. And I still want to take this job.
The guy realized that I was a fool and decided that rafting me to my death was the best solution. I'm better off. Why did I choose this task? It looked light compared to the others. On those missions, I would have died just starting them. And you can escape from the dungeon, although the previous seekers did not succeed. But I'm at the level of heroes. And that means something.
By the way, I did not tell you why I still chose S rank. If an A rank appears, it will be only small news, since there are 12 others, and then the Church would become interested in me for the purpose of recruiting, which I do not need at all. For S rank, any king will be ready to give at least half of his kingdom. This is their trump card against the Church, which has already taken a very large power. I will be their sword and they will be my shield. Thinking about it, I headed to the dungeon, which, as the receptionist explained, was a couple of days' drive from the city. I will omit the details of the road to the destination, mentioning only money-hungry cabbies.
On the third day after visiting the Guild, I went to the cave, which is the entrance to the dungeon. Well, with God. Or with the gods. As it turns out, there are quite a few of them .
The cave looked dark only from the outside. The crystals all over the place gave off a greenish light and created a slightly eerie atmosphere. The first monster turned out to be a kobold. Or whatever they are called in this world. Human body, dog head. Pretty strange. It is unlikely that mobs of this level could exterminate experienced adventurers.
I decided that it was not worth fighting all the monsters, and I also wanted to use this ability almost immediately after receiving it.
- Activate [Death Aura].
A dark haze surrounded me. The kobold screeched and disappeared in an unknown direction. Cool. So I went down the stairs at the end of the cave. There was no one on the second, and on the third. Fourth. tenth. Twenty fifth. What's happening?
Apparently, [Death Aura] scared away the local fauna. When I reached the fiftieth floor, I understood why everyone was dying here. And they didn't return. I saw the first monster and chuckled. S rank is mine.
