Have heroes ever regretted taking a life of a villain?

Have heroes ever regretted taking a life of a villain?

When I reached the hall entrance, I took a short break to catch my breath, so that I could be accurate if needed to.  I reached into my bag and pulled out the M1911 and kept in in my jacket pocket just in case I told myself. That was when I suddenly heard gunshot from the school hall, which really sent chills down my spine.

I had to come out with a plan and fast too, I at first thought of going through the front door since it was the fastest way in. However, after must consideration I decided to go up to the gallery which was covered and had a separate entrance from the hall. As I climbed the stairs and reached the door leading to the gallery, I could hear someone breathing heavily, as if he finished running a marathon. I immediately took out my pistol to check if there was a round in the chamber and turned the safety off. After gathering my courage, I opened to door as swiftly but quietly as possible and aimed the gun at a silhouette that was hiding in the gallery corner.

“My name is Colin from class 3-B you can come out now it is safe, I have a gun but I won’t shoot.” I said as quietly as possible.

I could clearly see that the person was scared so I decided to put my pistol back into my jacket pocket so that the person would not be terrified. When I managed to see the person’s face I realized it was actually someone I knew, she was a student from 3-A. If I am not wrong her name was Steph.

“Steph trust me I am not a terrorist, It really is safe now. Just come out from there and tell me what happened.” I said in a desperate attempt to calm her down.

She looked at me and started crying, at that point I had no idea what to do, I never had to deal with this kind of situation before, mainly due to my nature to stay alone and to never cry.

“Do I really look that scary?” I asked her jokingly.

“You really are an insensitive person, Colin that is why you don’t have friends.” She said in between her sobs

“That hurt a little, you know. However, time is not a commodity we have currently so, If you don’t mind me asking how did you get here?”  I replied

“They asked the girls to move to the dance halls saying that it is stated in the Quran that males and females cannot mix. However, as we were being separated to the dance theater, they were laughing and saying looks like we are getting 72 virgins early. When they weren’t looking at me, I ran for it and hid myself here.” She told me through her tears.

Savages I thought to myself. However, there was nothing I could do about it now, since I am at the gallery might as well free the male students first.

Once Steph had calmed herself down I told her to stay put in the gallery. I then proceded to scout the hall below. There were four gunmen that looked like wolves around the students. As I scanned through the faces in the crowd, I noticed that there were around six Army Voluntary cadets that were in the crowd. They were positioned in areas of the crowd close to the gunmen positions. I observed them for five minutes and managed to determine the leader of the group. Once I saw the leader talking to another gunman I shot him cleanly in the head. I immediately ran away from the gallery out into the open and fired randomly, to ensure that I don’t hit any hostages I shot towards the stage in the hall where no one was standing.

Standing in the open spraying over them, would surely make me a tempting target but when as my magazine went dry. I shouted to serve with pride and dedication and hit the deck to ensure that the gunmen would be focused on keeping me pinned down. As gunshots were flying past my head I wondered how are there people who could stay calm in this situation, the whistling of the bullets, the amount of dust getting kicked up by the impact of the bullets. As the gunshots started to fade to a pause I poked my head out hoping to see that the gunmen were dead, killed by the other cadets. As I sneaked a peak of the hall, I saw that they were not dead but pinned by the cadets and I had mixed feelings for their decision.

I rushed down to the hall from the gallery and helped the cadets tie up the gunmen. All the cadets were below my rank and there were some rookies as well. I asked them to equip themselves with the aks and escort all the hostages to the front gate and activate their IR strobes so that they would not be shot by the first responders.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“Err this is Colin again, we have secured the male hostages from the hall, they moved female hostages to a different area. We are escorting the hostages and three combatants there are 4 armed cadets escorting them to the front gate their strobes will be on so please take caution.” I reported

"Good job Colin, The SOC QRF is on scene and will be taking over please assist them to the best of your ability.” The same unknown voice replied

“Roger that, I will link up with them.” I replied

I felt relieved as now I could let the professionals do their job. I ran towards the gate where I saw four heavily kitted operatives armed with Scar-Ls and Glock 21s as their sidearm of choice.

"You guys the SOC operators?” I asked to confirm

"Yeah and Oh by the way we got you a present.” He said that and tossed a rifle at me.

After I caught the rifle I dropped the ak on the floor, it was my personal rifle an ULTIMAX 100 Mk5 that was issued to me for training last week. The SOC operator then passed me 4, 30-round box magazines and a 100-round drum magazine.

“Let’s go, I’ll show you where the bad guys are and we’ll pump them full of lead” I said as I loaded my drum magazine.

We slowly advanced towards the dance halls where there was only one way in and one way out. While we positioned at the door we were planning to use the battering ramp to destroy the door. When we finally ready, a girl ran out fully nude from the entrance into the hallway, then there was a man half naked with a pistol in hand chasing after her. However, I greeted him with my bayonet and at that point, I asked the SOC operatives to enter. As they entered, I kicked the person who I impaled, which made him fall. As he was on the floor he looked at me in the eyes as if he was asking for mercy, I fired a burst, ensuring that one of the shots it hit his head. After the SOC had entered I heard only 2 bursts of shots then the call clear. The que for me to enter.

As I entered the room, what I saw reminded me of a scene for a type of pornography called snuff. There were dead female students everywhere, some were still alive but covered with blood and semen, for those who were alive I could tell they were traumatized, as they were not even responding to us. This was too much for two of the SOC operatives, as they quickly ran out of the room and I could hear them vomiting. The SOC squad leader looked at me and I could see the fear in his eyes.

“How do you look so calm? When two of the hardened operatives I hand-picked could not.” He asked with a horrified expression

I could only reply him with the truth. “After my parents were killed by terrorists in the first terror attack, I no longer viewed them as human they were more akin to animals in my eyes and this is something animals do in the wild. So why should I be surprised at this scene.”

He only looked at me speechless with the expression of shock in his eyes. Well I can’t blame him I was only sixteen at that time and looked younger.

“I think you have to report this through the radio since SOC has been put in-charge of the situation. I’ll keep watch here, you can report outside.” I told him.

He moved outside with the other SOC operator and heard him reporting the situation through the PR.

As I stood there waiting, I saw one of the girls talking to a corpse of another girl. She was asking her why was she just remaining silent. I could not believe that humans could be reduced to such a state. Suddenly she took a pistol on the floor and aimed it at my face.

“You, you did this didn’t you. You killed her.” She shouted at me with look of hatred in her eyes.

I grabbed the gun and positioned it to my shoulder. “GO AHEAD SHOOT, THEN YOU WILL BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THE PEOPLE WHO KILLED YOUR FRIEND!” I shouted at her in a fit of frustration while maintaining eye contact with her.

I was surprised at my frustration and my own actions. I saw as the look of hatred turned into the look of disgust as she let go of the pistol and slapped me. She then began crying in front of me. As I looked to my right to the entrance of the dance halls I saw Steph looking at me in shock. I wondered why she was looking at me like that, it wasn’t till I looked at myself through the mirror that I found the reason why.

I saw a reflection of myself, or that is what I would like to think. My uniform and jacket was entirely drenched in blood, my hair was in a mess and I was smiling. That was when I realized that my words were not meant for the girl I just shouted at. It was for me, I didn’t just shoot, I killed six of them, at that moment I could only damn myself for the irony to hit me this hard.

I stayed in that room till the paramedics arrived, as I walked my footprints were soaked in blood. Everyone at the front gate was horrified at the state I was in. Whenever questioned whether I was hurt, I only told them that the blood was not mine. When I finally reported to the police command truck to receive a debriefing. While waiting all I thought was how can someone call themselves a hero after doing something as horrible as this.
