Before he even opened his eyes, he could see a holographic projection that shone with tinges of green, displaying changing numbers. Upon reaching a hundred percent, he decided to finally open his eyes and see where he was.
Arising from his initial stupor, and opening his eyes dizzily, Kai found himself in a place that was unfamiliar - definitely not the hospital room which he was residing mere seconds ago. He lay with his back on the ground, blinking his eyes as shock filled Kai’s veins from the sudden change of scenery.
The last thing Kai could remember was a sickening feeling in his stomach. The pain being unbearable, spreading through every part of his skinny body, threatening to split it apart at any second. Now he found himself to be completely fine, if not better than he ever was throughout his short 17 years of existence.
What just happened?
Kai slowly pulled himself to his feet, rubbing his eyes roughly as he wondered about what was going on.
His first thought was to think about getting back home. How would his parents react when they found out he was missing? How would he return back to the hospital? Was this all a dream, and he was just being silly?
These questions, along with many others, were buzzing around inside Kai’s head, leaving him standing as still as a statue, his face scrunched up in confusion.
He took a few breaths to calm down. He could still feel his heart racing wildly, but after taking a few more deep breaths, he had successfully made the thoughts retreat from his head.
Kai decided that the best thing to do at this point was to observe his surroundings, find out where he was, and hopefully discover a way back home. Besides, he was curious about this unknown place by now, who wouldn’t want to explore the unexplored.

Looking around, all of Kai’s previous fears evaporated as he was immediately mesmerized by the beautiful but mysterious scenery in front of him. The black hollow skies had occasional streaks and spirals of blue and purple, along with the uncountable numbers of shining stars which dotted the whole area. It was a scene which he had only seen in astronomy books before and was so unreal – was he dead?
Just that thought alone was enough to pull him from his momentary daze. He looked around, but all around him, there was just the same infinite space. He didn’t even know what he was standing on right now…
How was he standing?
[Welcome, player 12984, to Lycoris]
“Lycoris?” Kai questioned instinctively, turning his head around curiously. There was no one in sight. No matter which way he turned, he could only see the same bluish purple cluster of objects in the distance. The robotic voice that shook him out of his daze, had come out of nowhere.
[In Lycoris, players are free to do whatever they want. However, please be civil and not fight in the city areas.]
The mechanical voice appeared again, continuing to speak without paying the slightest attention to Kai.
[Now, please choose one of the following classes to begin your journey.]
A holographic screen suddenly popped out in front of Kai, making him jump back slightly. He curiously reached out his slightly shaking hand, which passed right through the three dimensional screen.
Deciding to not waste his time, Kai squinted as he looked at the information shown to him. The top displayed the word “CLASSES”, and below it were 6 small boxes with descriptions provided.
“What’s this? Mage-,” Kai read out loud, intending to question the robotic voice, blinking his eyes from the large amount of text that was displayed in front of him.
[Class chosen: Mage. Players are provided with 10 additional stat points which can be distributed however the player wants. Stats based on your previous living conditions have been distributed accordingly. To view stats players may say “Open Stats” to observe their status box.]
[2 random skills have been received]
[In Lycoris, you survive, get stronger and strive to become the top of the food chain. If the player results with 0 HP, the player is eliminated. Does the player have any questions?]
“Erm ok, but can I change the class, I don’t even know the details of the Mage class-“ Kai tried to reason, but to no success. The system remained silent.
Kai sighed as he thought of the fact that he was stuck with being a mage, not knowing what other classes there were, and what his class could do in this world. By now Kai had the general idea of where he was and what he was supposed to do. Hopefully, the mage class was similar to the games he used to play in his hospital room to pass time.
Sighing heavily to himself once more, Kai tried to sort out all the information he just received in his head. His thoughts were whirring around as he replayed what the system had told him, but before he could ask anything to confirm any of his doubts, the robotic voice sounded once more.
[No questions. Starting transportation on 3..2…]
“Wait!”
