Chapter 3

The tower gates opened, a young girl with beautiful black hair and pale skin walked in. Her eyes darted around the room, searching for people, but nothing came into sight. The young girl was the only one in the room.

The area of the room far surpassed that of any room she had seen. Not a single pillar stood to support the weight of the cieling.

In the middle of the room, a crystal orb stood atop a giant, stone tablet. The young girl hastened her steps and sprinted towards it.

Within a few feet distance between herself and the orb, the stone pedestal rumbled. Strange lines appeared all over the pedestal, and formed bricks. The bricks shifted and formed a wide stariway.

The young girl stood with her mouth slightly open, as she stared at the stairs that once was a pedestal. She had never experienced such a possibility in her life, until now.

Her legs trembled, as she slowly set her foot atop the first stair. Each step of the stairway were 12 inches tall. She struggled to get herself up to the top.

Her breathing became heavy, the stairway was just too long. With every passing pair of stairs, her body grew heavier. The young girl's legs were shaking just from supporting her weight to stand up.

The moment she stopped, the stairs behind her began to crumble and turn to dust, starting from the very first step.

An expression of disbelief covered her face. Immediately, she gathered her strength on her legs and ran up the remaining steps.

A thousand steps, and still, the a million more. The girls face paled, a fiery sensation burst throughout her calves and thighs. Her speed reduced, dramatically, and her breathing was heavier than before.

The steps behind her continued to collapse. Everytime she stopped, the steps would collapse faster. She had ran up hundreds of steps, yet the orb was still so far away. The distance between her and the orb seemed endless.

"Urgh..."

Her legs hurt so much, but she had to continue up the stairway. The collapsing steps shortened the distance, 4 steps at a time.

Four thousand steps, by this time, her legs were unstable. The power in her legs gave out, and she tripped over a step. Her body heavily fell upon the stairway. The impact knocked the air out of her lung.

The steps behind her began to collapse with tremendous speed. Fifty steps collapse within five minutes.

At this rate, the collapsing steps will catch up, and she will fall to her death. The floor had long since dissapeared, along with the first step of the stairway. The only thing she could see, was an endless space with nothing in it.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Fear struck her heart. She did not want to end up down there. She had so many things she wanted to do. Her once again muster her strength into her legs, and began to crawl on all four.

An hour passed. By this time, the orb was but a few steps away. The young girls body collapsed onto the last few steps between herself and the orb.

Her throat was soar from breathing in huge quantities of air at once. Her legs felt numb, and did no respond. Her arms were covered with cuts and bruises.

The young girl could barely move. Her whole body was in so much pain, she felt like clawing her eyes out of their sockets.

Blood shot eyes stared at the orb that was a dozen steps ahead of her. It slightly trembled, and a tiny fracture appeared, slowly growing in size.

Why? Why? Why? Her mind was riddled with questions. Why is this happening? Why is the orb cracking? A dangerous sensation filled her heart. She didn't know why, but sight of the orb cracking caused her to feel very uncomfortable.

The young girl dragged her body up the remaining steps. With the last of her remaining strength, her fingers clawed onto the last step.

A sigh escaped her lips and her pale expression lightened, just a little. She made it, all she needed to do was take the last step.

Her body refused to move once more. Her vision was hazy, and her muscles relaxed. She couldn't move, or muster any strength.

"A little rest..." She whispered. "Just a little rest."

She was completely exhausted. Her body longed to rest. She could no longer force her body to keep moving up the stairs. Her neck gave out, and her head fell down.

Her head hit nothing, the cold, stone step that should have met her head, was no longer there.

The collapsing steps caught up. Her body fell towards the bottomless abyss beneath her.

Once last time, she opened her eyes to look at the orb. It was gone. The orb shattered into tiny fragments, and the tiny fragments turned into dust.

This fragile orb, gave her the feeling that she had to reach it. Why was the orb so important, anyway? Why did she struggle so hard just to reach it?

Her eyelids twitched, and slowly began to close. Everything felt so slow, everything seemed to slow down. The speed in which the last step shrunk from her view slowed down.

The last step finally reached its end, and nothing but the young girl was in the space. Her body continued to fall, at a rapid pace.

Right at the moment the lids of her eyes were about to meet, she saw it. A light so faint, it was barely discernable, yet it was so intense. It flickered, and dissapeared as her eyes closed.

Is the story enjoyable? Kind of curious.
