Chapter 1
Sitting on top of a hill, a young boy with short black hair was staring off into space, looking into the skies with large brown eyes, he gazed up, wondering what was in the world outside of his reach. Sighing to himself, the boy stood up, before walking down the hill, where a young girl was standing, seemingly waiting for him to come.
“Amos, hurry up and get down here. Your mom is looking for you, Barse said that you didn’t do your cores today.”
“What? Barse said that he would do them today, he said that if i did his yesterday he would do mine today.”
“Too bad, your mom is really angry now, and she’s not gonna blame Barse, cause he was accepted into the knights school in the morning.”
“Huh!? But mom said he couldn’t though, cause he failed in the test.”
“Well Barse said that he’s a knight apprentice now, so you have to go help with the chores.”
Poking her tongue out at the Amos, the girl turned around and started to walk down the hill.
Watching the girl walk away, the boy broke into a small run, yelling after her towards the town
“What Anise, don’t leave me behind! You gotta help me tell mom!”
“Why should I? You never help me with mine”
“What? I did last week”
“No”
“Anise, please, if you don’t mom won’t let me outside the house until tomorrow”
“Fine then, but you owe me”
“Ok, just help me tell mom”
As the two kids talked and walked back into town, they noticed a small commotion ahead of them. A small fight was starting to break out in the market between some of the townsfolk and visitors that were staying at the inn.
Anise started to run up to the small crowd, squeezing between them to try and get through the crowd.
“Anise!”
Shouting out to her, Amos started to run after her. Maneuvering his way past the crowd, he reached the middle of the crowd, only to be shocked from the image of Anise standing protectively in front of a young man lying on the ground.
“Stop! Leave Starge alone!”
With her arms spread out wide, the man standing in front of her laughed in a disgusting manner, causing his large belly to vibrate. Behind him a tall, muscular man stood with his arms crossed, keeping anyone else from coming near.
“Little lady, you really shouldn’t stand up for this young man. You see, this man owes me a lot of money, and he isn’t currently able to pay what is due. So, because he can’t pay what is due, he has to help me with my work, it’s all part of the contract that he signed, and you, little girl, will have to step back and this young man will come with me.”
“No! You can’t take Starge, I won’t let you!”
“Little Lady, i would like you to move, before i have to take more drastic measures.”
“No!”
“Ahhh… I didn’t want to do this. Barton, grab your new friend, but make sure not to hurt the girl.”
“Yes.”
As the Barton said this, he started to walk towards Anise, slowly unfolding his arms before asking her in a very rough voice, one that was made to sound intimidating
“Move. Now.”
“No”
Shaking on the spot, but with her arms still raised up in defiance, she stood her ground, maintaining her stance under Barton’s immense pressure.
“Girl. Move.”
“No…”

As the man’s pressure started to increase, the corners of Anise’s eyes started to tear up. Noticing this, Amos ran in front of her, trying to protect her from Barton.
“Leave her alone!”
Amos’ shout resounded through the market as he ran in front of her, Putting up a similar stance to her, though much more stable.
“My of my, another child. How many times does this have to happen to me. People would start to think that i bullied the poor things soon. Look boy. I need the money this man owes me, or he comes with me. There are no alternatives.”
“No! You can’t take Starge!”
With Amos jumping in front of her, Anise’s courage increased, as she was no longer alone, as the Barton’s pressure was split between both her and Amos.
“Ahhh… Ok then. I don’t have any more time to deal with this. I’ll make a deal with you kids. I’ll give you two one year to make the money that this man owes me. If you don’t then both him, and you boy, can come and work for me for a period of… about three and half years.”
“How much?”
“30 gold”
When he heard this, Amos’ face contorted into an ugly expression. His family spent around 30 silver a week for food, while they made 40 silver from the clothes that his mother made and sold at the market place. He imagined that Anise’s family would be in a similar position. Luckily his mother taught him how to count, and did it well, so he was able to work out how long it would take to make that money Each gold was worth 100 silver, so it would take him and Anise 150 weeks to earn the 30 gold.
“Two years.”
“Huh?”
“Two years, and if we can’t then I’ll work for you for five years.”
“Amos! Wait! You don’t have to do this!”
“But if i don’t, then Starge will be taken away. He’ll die if he has to fight anyone!”
“Haha. Well then boy, if you and your friend are done, it’s a deal. If you can pay back the 30 gold, then I swear on my life, that i will leave you and your friend lone, better yet, if you do manage to pay back the amount owed, I’ll even give you a soul crystal. Hahahaha. Here boy. This is the finalizes. Just hold this stone in crystal in your hand, and the deal will be finalized.”
Reaching into his pocket, the man pulled out a translucent cyan sphere, before holding it out towards Amos.
As Amos grasped the sphere in his hands, he was greeted by a strong loud voice resounding through his mind.”
“Do you agree to the terms set. You must pay 30 gold within two years from this day, or your soul shall be bonded to serve Mygon for five years. If you do pay it, then You shall be free of the debt, and shall receive one Soul Crystal from Mygon.”
“I Agree.”
As Amos said these words a bright light shined from the rune, before crumbling to dust in his hands. Looking at where the crystal was, Amos noticed a small marking of a spiral had formed in his palm.
Looking up at the man, who he assumed to be Mygon, Amos had a determined look in his eyes.
“Good boy. Two years. I’ll be back then. Hahahaha”
Turning around and walking away, he laughed heartily, imagining the profit that he gained from this deal. Watching him walk away, Amos turned to Anise and and picked the man, leaning him onto his back before walking out of the plaza, with Anise following behind him, not uttering a word.
