Bai Yue cut in the conversation and said. “Alright, knowing more is useless for you. At least for now. Let's just focus on training.” Despite not sating his curiosity completely, Guang Yang understood that she was right, and only increasing his own power mattered. Everything else was external power and could let him down unexpectedly. Thus he looked at the Nung and said, barely hiding his excitement. “Let's do it, then!”
Noticing the boy's readiness, Nung asked. “Shall we use the normal setting? Or do you wish to train in a special one?” Bai Yue replied. “Let's use the normal one. After all, little fox never used that spell to fight anyone, so he first has to get used to it.” He nodded and restrained his cultivation and soul sense to the Mid Level 2, before backing up a few dozens meters. When he reached where he wanted, he readied himself in a fighting stance before saying. Young Master should start first to get use to your spell. I will then attack you with the full power of my current level. You will need to avoid my attacks.”
When he saw the man readying himself to fight, Guang Yang roused his mana and manipulated his Laws to form this movement spell. His new spell, which he called [Dual Rush Spell], used the Law of Light for speed by partially turning his body into light, while the Law of Darkness hid and protected his body. As for the Law of Life, he mostly used it to heal himself when the attack broke through his Darkness protection. It may sound like a really simple way of using the different Laws he comprehended, however, that combination of Law Manipulation could only be successful if he used them at the right moment and if he balanced them exactly. Indeed, because the Law of Light and Darkness were so different, they needed to be perfectly balanced to not get into the other Law's way. Otherwise, it would lead to the spell's collapse and the result would be the waste of energy at best, and getting hurt at worst. As for the Law of Life, since it was Immortal Layer Law, it did not conflict with the other two.
Back to the fight, Guang Yang activated the [Dual Rush Spell] and his body seemed to change into a combination of white and black figure, which seemed to fade in space. Of course, Bai Yue with her high cultivation could still 'see' where he was with her soul sense, but Nung who restricted his power and Soul sense could only vaguely see a shadow that seemed to run towards him at high speed. From what he could tell, the speed seemed to almost reach the Peak of Level 2, but he noticed that the speed and cloaking of the figure fluctuated. “It seems like he hasn't mastered his spell yet. It's not really surprising since theory and practice are two different things.” He thought. While he was analyzing the boy's spell, he noticed the fluctuations of the spell going haywire inside Guang Yang's body and him falling to the ground, coughing some blood from what seemed to be an internal injury.
Despite suffering an injury for the first time, the boy did not ask for help from the two, and chose instead to use the Law of Life to heal his body. He was thinking. “It really hurts, but compared to that time in that frightening abyss, it's nothing. I'll probably get hurt a lot in the future, so I have to get used to it. Otherwise I won't be able to be strong enough to protect teacher, mom and dad.” A few tears fell from his eyes but he clenched his teeth and did not complain. The two adults noticed the situation, but chose to stay silent, to respect the boys' courage.
Thanks to the fact that the Law of Life was an Immortal Layer Law and it was used on a Mortal Layer body, it only took him 20 minutes to heal himself completely, despite his low Comprehension Level in it. Of course, as he mastered more and more the use of that Law, he would be able to heal quicker and quicker.
Once he felt that his body was completely healed, he stood up and said with a serious face, showing his strong determination. “Again.” After which he activated his spell again and turned around Nung, trying to control the former and avoid it collapsing again. As the tall man noticed that the boy couldn't control his spell normally, he decided to wait where he was instead of attacking him. After all, since the goal of this training session was for the boy to control his spell satisfactorily, he would first need to control it when there was no pressure on him. Only after that, would he increase the said pressure to help him mastering his spell better.
Back to Guang Yang. Because of his previous failure, he noticed some things that were not right in his spell and in his control of it, which he proceeded to improve. However, despite its current low power, it was still one of the highest level Mortal Layer spell. That meant that it would take some time before he could master it. Even in its most basic form. That translated into numerous time when he collapsed on the ground due to the spell going out of control. In turn, it forced him to use his Law of Life to heal himself numerous time. Thankfully his clothes cleaned themselves automatically, or they would have changed color with all the blood he coughed out because of the injuries he received. Nonetheless, he did not complain or give up, but kept going, trying to improve himself and his control over his spell.
Although it was hard to tell, the other two adults in the room could feel a slight improvement over his Laws' manipulation as the training session was almost over. The increase was not massive, but it was certain that if the boy kept training at this pace, he would definitely end up mastering the spell. And it probably would not take too long. Not only that, but because the most difficult part of the spell was balancing out the two opposite Laws, by mastering that spell, he would be able to speed up the mastering of other spells using those same Laws. In a way, by spending more time learning the [Dual Rush Spell], he would save months or even years of time.
When Guang Yang fell on the floor for the nth time, he heard his teacher calling for the training to stop. “Once you heal yourself, we'll go eat lunch. I called your parents over to share a meal as a celebration of your success.” She then turned to Nung. “We're done for today. We'll have a training session here every morning. However, for now, you will not need to come, since he can not control his spell yet.” Nung bowed respectfully towards her and said. “As you wish Lady Bai. May I be permitted to watch the young master train? I feel very interested in seeing his progress.” She pondered a bit before answering. “Very well then. You shall be permitted to attend the training session.” When she finished, the commander disappeared from the room and Bai Yue turned toward the boy who was healing himself.
Slightly less than twenty minutes later, Guang Yang opened his eyes, completely cured of his wounds, although a trace of fatigue could be discerned on his face, from the physically and mentally intense training session. When he thought about how his spell kept collapsing and how little he improved his control over it, despite spending the whole morning training, he felt a bit depressed. Apparently his feelings were obvious, since his teacher asked him in an amused tone. “Why are you depressed? Is it because you failed to master the spell on the first day?” He nodded and sighed. “Teacher, it's not funny. I spent so much time and the result I had for it was so little... I feel a bit stupid. Am I stupid teacher?” His tone, similar to someone who had a really hard life, made Bai Yue burst into laughter.
When he realized that his teacher was not taking him seriously, he turned his face away and a pout appeared on his face. He mumbled, discontented. “Teacher is a meanie...” When she heard the last sentence and saw how amusingly adorable the little boy looked, she took even longer to stop laughing. Once a few moments passed, she took deep breaths to calm herself down. Then she proceeded to sit close to the still pouting little boy and said. “Little fox, I think you've misunderstood something.” Because of their relationship and his curiosity, Guang Yang could not stay mad at his teacher. That prompted him to ask her, puzzled. “What do you mean. teacher?”
She answered with a smile. “I know you think you were slow to learn your current spell. However, what are you basing it on? Is it your speed of mana cultivation? Or maybe your Law comprehension speed?” She looked at him, her face becoming serious. “Then let me tell you that, unlike your spell manipulation which only comes from your comprehension talent, the other two are boosted to an insane level by the Dual Yin Yang Seal. What you have achieved in a week, may have taken other Mortal Layer Cultivators, years of constant training. Some don't even reach it for their whole life.”
“As for your spell? Your speed of advancement is already beyond any Mortal Layer Cultivator I've ever seen. Even if you think it's slow. Don't forget that you're trying to balance two complete opposite Laws together without them collapsing on you. Even for the few extreme genius who tried it before, not only did they not reach very far in their comprehension of their own two opposite Laws, but they also took a lot longer to reach where you are in your spell mastery.” The seriousness on her face was then replace with warmth when she added. “So, cheer up! You're very talented, and being depressed won't help you become faster in mastering that spell. You should stop being impatient, okay?”
He seriously listened to his teacher speech and found that it made a lot of sense. He thought. “She is probably right. I was too impatient to get instant result.” He then said out loud with an angelic smile. “Alright teacher! I'll listen to you and keep practicing without being impatient.” She nodded and added. “Alright, let's go eat lunch. I'm sure that your parents have been waiting for us for a long time.” She then proceeded to leave the room with Guang Yang in tow. When the two of them cross the entrance, Bai Yue once again used her mana to cover the boy's body and took off toward the main building's patio.
When the two arrived, they noticed a couple discussing something together with a smile on their faces. When the two noticed the new arrivals, they turned toward them and the woman seemed to almost teleport in front of them. She then took Guang Yang in her arms to hug him hard and proceeded to unleash a deluge of kisses on the boy's adorable round cheeks. When she finished expressing how much she missed him, the boy's face was as red as blood from embarrassment. He then protested in small voice. “Mom! It's only been one week. Also I'm not a baby anymore. You should stop embarrassing me like that in front of teacher.” Despite his words, he felt warm in his heart from his mother's love and care. Guang Hua denied his claim right away. “Little Yang, even after thousands of years you'll still be our baby to your dad and I. So you should start getting used to it, young man.” She had a big smile full of tenderness for this adorable and kind boy. She added. “Beside, I'm sure big sister Bai won't mind for you to be a bit embarrassed by your beautiful mother.” Bai Yue then laughed lightly at her words and confirmed. “You're right, Hua'er. I won't mind.”
When he heard her words, his face had an expression of betrayal. He then confronted her in a accusatory tone. “Teacher! How could you betray me like that?!” He then turned to his dad, looking for his help. “Dad! Help me!” Seeing his son bullied by his wife, he had to hold himself back from laughing. However he still decided to help him. One moment, the boy was in his mother's arms and the other he found himself on his father's lap looking towards the two women. He then heard his father said, with a slight amusement in his voice. “Alright, leave the boy alone, Hua'er.” That made Guang Yang laughed at his mother's pouting face. When Bai Yue saw the other woman's expression, she thought about how similar the little boy and his mother's pouting face were.
That thought made a laugh escape from her lips, but she did not add anything else to the conversation, but chose to sit in one of the comfortable chairs that surrounded the beautifully carved wooden table. Guang Hua then joined her on her side and said. “Let's order some food and while we wait you can tell us about your so called surprise.“ Bai Yue said. “Okay.” And Guang Yang asked, surprised. “Teacher, you didn't tell Mom and Dad what happened?” She shook her head, which prompted him to say. “Can I tell the story, then? Pretty please?” The boy's use of his trump card, the puppy-eyes, was super effective against the two women, as none of them wanted to deny his request. When the raven-colored hair beauty nodded in approval, the boy started the story of the previous week. He talked about how they spent a whole week designing a new movement spell that could protect, hide and heal him. However, he also shared his trouble with mastering it, and how the spell kept collapsing because of the imbalance between the Law of Darkness and the Law of light.
When his parents heard the fact that he was able to create a high level spell as his first spell, as well as using two opposite Laws for it, they were very proud of him and his father said to him. “Good job, son! And don't worry about the imbalance in your spell. After all, your mom and I's first spells were low level and it also took quite a while to have a basic mastery over them. As long as you remember that a spell is simply a framework to help you manipulate and combine the Laws better, then you'll be fine.”
The boy nodded and said. “Yes, Dad. I know that I will master it. It will just take some time.” His father agreed and the four people kept talking about various subjects until the food was brought to their table by some robots. During the conversation, the couple informed the other two that they would probably breakthrough in the next few months, as they already reached their bottlenecks. However, they had to accumulate some more and move on to a higher sub-level. Because of that reason, they might not be able to see the other two too much, since they were focused on cultivating.
When he heard that he would not be able to see his parents too much during the next few months, the boy felt a bit sad. However, he thought he understood their feelings. After all, he knew vaguely about their enemies and that only with an increase of their cultivation could they protect each other. That was, after all, one of the main reasons why he was so motivated recently.
Wanting to ease their guilt, he said. “Don't worry, Mom and Dad! I'll be with Teacher all the time, so I won't feel lonely. Beside, I think that I'm also close to reaching the next Sub-Level. And I'll also need to master my spell. So I will definitely be very busy.” Despite feeling guilty for not being able to always be there for their son, they also felt happy about the kind of upright man he was growing up to be. Also, the closeness between the powerful woman and the young child reassured them greatly about his well-being, be it physically or mentally.
The two parents had a big smile full of love when they looked at Guang Yang, and without consulting each other, they both went to hug him, which ended up being a three-people hug. The boy was surprised, but when he heard his mother saying “I love you Xiao Yang” and his father adding “I love you son”, a smile of pure happiness appeared on his face, while a few small tears fell from his eyes.
The scene felt soothing to Bai Yue's frozen but restless heart, who felt more and more peaceful since she met the other three. She kept noticing the obvious changes in her personality that kept appearing recently. In addition to the Magic Seals, she wondered if the recent new comprehension of the Law of Light had an effect on her. After all, it was well known that by comprehending a Law and integrating it into one's being, one would be influenced by it. And since she kept opening up more and more, at least toward those close to her, she felt like the Law might have an effect on her personality.
Though, she reasoned. “Although it might impact me, it will only build up on my existent personality. So I'll probably only act that way with my family.... Well, I don't mind too much and I also can't do anything about the changes, so it's useless thinking about it I guess.” Finishing her thoughts, she focused her mind on the happy moment that was currently happening beside her.
