I could feel the victory cries coming from my monster brethren. My blood was boiling after a good slaughter…a side effect of my skill Bloodlust…
*Flashback*
My name is Nathaniel Hastings…my friends call me Nate, but In-Game…I am the almighty Trolls4lyfe.
Yeah…most people just call me Troll or T.
Anyway it started off relatively simple. I decided to pick Troll as my race, because it was one of my favorite races on an old game I used to play.
I was sent to the Valley of Skulls as my starting area…it was either that or Bone Junction. Monsters apparently have really bad naming senses.
I was torn you see. My friend Giddy…well Kai here. He chose to be one of the humanoid races and thus had to start on the Ibigord continent.
I really did want to party with him and go on quests and what not, but its hard to resist the trolls man…the Trolls.
The Valley of Skulls was a well-known starting area for many of the monster races. It was located on the Zrosan continent, which I believe is east of Ibigoria separated by the Silver Sea.
Anyway I’m not here to teach geography. I be a young’un troll at d’is point and I was a’searchin for my place in dah universe.
I didn’t know if I wanted to be a magic caster or just go straight into melee combat. I was torn again. So I met up with a few friends from school…minus my BFF.
There was Jack a.k.a Bonaparte the one-eyed Ogre and Dylan a.k.a Grimm the defiant Kobold. Apparently Kobolds are considered a monster race not a beast race, normally I wouldn’t bring this up…but Grimm never shut up about it.
Bona ended up taking the standard Warrior class. He was hoping to advance it to some type of two-handed marauder type class.
Grimm was a bit more agile and ended up becoming a Rogue and he wanted to…wait for it…become an Assassin when he advanced to the 3rd Order.
Advanced classes are often fusions between lower classes or they might even be whole new classes.
You can advance to your next class at the 3rd Order. It usually offers a few bonuses and extra skills. The next advancements come at the 5th, 7th, and 9th Orders.
I the mighty Troll am currently classless. So I picked up a rusty battle-axe and went out adventuring with Bona and Grimm.
It was very strange…after we murdered a few hundred bunnies and foxes we ended up fighting against bandits and other humanoids.
Apparently as I soon figured out. Monster races typically don’t hunt other monsters. Our enemies are usually bandits or humanoid raiding parties that are exploring.
It was like the game actually considered us as monsters. This kind of pissed me off. If they wanted us to be monsters so badly…then I would give them the greatest monstrosity ever.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
I had the idea at least, but I didn’t know hot to execute it. I would need to become stronger. Maybe form a guild of monsters and then ambush human settlements or something like that.
That was as far as I had thought out at least.
That was until I the day I finally received my class. My friends and I had received a mission to hunt 1st Order Volatile River-Wasps.
Killing the wasps one by one was fairly easy, but when they started to gather we had to retreat for a little while to get our strength back.
We had acquired quite a bit of River-Wasp honey…no I do not know if wasps make honey or not, but these ones do…and had almost finished our mission when we encountered a…
“2nd Order Ironfist Ape.” Grimm yelled out in order to get our attention.
Bona was scared shitless. The ape was three times the size of any of us with muscles that matched. I knew that we would not be able to withstand attacks from something one order above us.
I yelled at the others to start running. “I’ll hold it off.”
The Ironfist Ape charge at me smashed its fist directly into the center of my chest and sent me flying about ten feet back.
I tried to stand up and fight, but the thing treated me like a punching bag. The only thing I could think of doing was appeasing it.
I took out a jar of River-Wasp honey and offered it to the beast as it was about to kill me.
I never said I was smart, but at this moment my plan happened to be ingenious.
The ape took a whiff of the honey and grabbed it from my hands before it started to devour it.
New Class Skill: Taming
Class Skill acquisition succeeded. Beast Tamer class acquired.
2nd Order Ironfist Ape – Apa-Apa has agreed to be tamed by you as long as you feed it delicious food. Impartial Contract – Not fully loyal.
This was merely the beginning of the tale of the Beast King Troll and his hundred Heathens.
Heathens would eventually become the first guild on Zrosa and one of its most powerful...but that is a tale for another time.
