The Legend of the Spearless
The Eyeless Historian's Foreword

The Eyeless Historian's Foreword

Here is one of the earliest pieces of literature that we’ve discovered. Something that –to this day– is known by many a person. There are no historical pieces of evidence for the existence of a man known as the Spearless, yet it is safe to assume that someone existed in the Old Age who became the Spearless as we know it. The original text of this tale is lost to the cruel tides of time and the poignant waves of war, but a copy of it was found which dates back to 2500 B.D. – approximately three hundred years after it was first written. I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that the piece we’ve translated is much different than what it originally was. The oldest copies that we have of this tale are not all complete, nor accurate. Many changes are visible in the different versions of this tale, most applied because of external pressures, while a number of them are for no other reason than the translator’s own beliefs and judgments. All we could do was to compare the many different versions of this tale and create the most accurate one that we could. It was a burdensome experience, at some point I had to banish all minor inconveniences and focus solely on this piece.

To my fellow brothers and sisters, who helped me greatly in the last few years, thank you. Without your help, what I would present to the Grand Library would be insignificant and much unadorned.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Regardless, this is the 16th tale of the Endless Book, and although not entirely accurate, it’s probably a more accurate tale compared to the previous ones. Some of the Fingerless believe that this tale should be considered a part of “The Epic of Alazarous.” And so, it depends on whom you ask, some consider it the 15th, while others, including me, believe it to be the 16th tale.
