Chapter 3 - Night Sea & the Two Brothers
Crystal World was surrounded by the Great Sea from all around and the Crystaliens, the residents of the Crystal World, referred to the Great Sea as the Night Sea after Eggset, as many believed it was a different sea that appeared during the night.
All three, the two seas and the entire flat land, together made the existence of life possible in the Crystal World. Most of the ecosystem of the Crystal World was like how one would imagine it underwater, yet giving enough room and possibility to the necessary gasses like nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide to survive and thrive.
As the Floating Egg had risen from the Ruby town’s side this morning, i.e. from the south, it had set on the distant end of the Crystal World today, i.e. north, taking the last of its neon green Egglight with it.
Just after that, the turquoise color spread through the Crystal World before eventually being replaced by the eye catching blue light as the bioluminescent effect took place above in the entire Night Sea, having the tiny dots of concentrated violet instead of stars that were believed to be the distant Oceanic Worlds.
Crystaliens believed it was during the moment when turquoise color filled the Crystal World that the two different seas changed places with one another which happened twice a day, once during dawn in the morning and then again during dusk.
Though, no one had any idea where the Night Sea came from and where the Great Sea went, but it was a common belief that the Great Sea went somewhere with the Floating Egg as it couldn’t exist without it.
Dev was often fascinated by this theory and thought it was cute, but Abhi believed that it was just a made-up tale, most likely fabricated by some romanticists. Still, even he couldn’t deny that the whole process was indeed alluring, and even after so many years, neither Abhi nor Dev could help but gasp, looking at the massive Night Sea reflecting the rays of delicate blue light.
The Night Sea was incomparably more beautiful than the Great Sea as the luminous sight was one thing, but with it came a calm and peaceful melody.
It wasn’t like there were no sounds during the day; it was just that those sounds were rather chaotic and raging. Unlike the Night Sea, during the day, the sounds of many distant sea creatures, colliding currents, violent hurricanes, fierce whirlpools, and Clock knows what would be heard on the land that would only cease at nightfall.
It was like the raging tunes of the Great Sea were an epiphany for them to prepare for the upcoming tribulations of the day while the Night Sea’s light music would come to soothe everyone’s mind.
Because of these voices coming from the two seas day and night, Crystal World was never entirely silent, yet, never too noisy either.
“It’s indeed a wondrous sight to behold!” Dev murmured.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
In his opinion, no sky could ever match up to their Night Sea, if any even existed in the first place.
He was going home with Abhi and Brownie after finishing work in the field for the day. The walk to their home was not too long, only a little more than half an hour, and it couldn’t be more enjoyable for Dev as he never got bored of this marvellous phenomenon of nature during dusk.
The only downfall to the scenery was the presence of deadly sea creatures; even if they were too distant and too small to see from the land, everyone knew that they were there, existing, always wanting to get just one opportunity and jump at the Crystaliens.
“By the way, Big Bro, I noticed you were lost deep in thoughts on the field. Were you pondering about Bira’s stories again?” probed Abhi when he finally saw Dev’s attention diverting from the Night Sea.
“Yeah, so you noticed,” Dev appreciated.
“Yup. But you shouldn’t strain your mind on such things too much Big Bro. After all, both Bira and his old man are kind of… well, you know, odd, and even I know that these kind of people, who read all the time, had a rather strange title during ancient times that sounds really creepy.”
“Do you mean ‘Bookworms’ again?” Dev assumed with a dark expression on his face. In Abhi’s imagination, the term ‘Bookworms’ meant some kind of Sea creature, that, if once entered into a person’s body, would force them to read books all the time and then continuously eating the person’s brain little by little.
“Yes, Big Bro,” Abhi confessed. “I’m telling you they obviously sound very dangerous. Maybe they are a type of Sea-worms.”
Dev snapped at him, “You idiot, How many times have I told you there is no Sea creature of that sort. During ancient times, ‘Bookworm’ was just a term to define people who were more curious about things than ordinary people and so, they read more than others. You would have known better if you had listened well during your history lessons in school.”
“En,” Abhi just pretended he didn’t listen to Dev at all and started picking his nose. As a result, he got a loud slap on the back of his head, and he went rolling forward.
“You seem more like someone who has Sea-worms up his head. Don’t ever mention it to Bira or anyone else. Otherwise, people would think you are a big moron.”
Abhi got all serious hearing this and said, sitting straight, “But big bro, I’m not a moron, especially not a big one.”
“Then don’t act like one.”
“Understood!” Abhi exclaimed loudly with a salute. “From now on, I’ll only participate in intellectual talks.”
Dev didn’t believe a word that had just come out of his younger brother’s mouth and ignored him altogether.
Yet, Dev couldn’t deny the fact that Abhi was truly a caring brother, as even while working in the field, Abhi had noticed Dev’s absentmindedness and even correctly guessed his thinking.
‘I wonder if the Great Ancestors had a caring brother like mine, their minds might have been a little less deranged.’
A smile appeared on Dev’s face as he thought this.
The next moment, he tried patting Abhi’s back without warning just to show him some appreciation for once, but to Dev’s dismay, Abhi immediately jumped forward in fear and cried, “What? What did I do now? I didn’t even say a word.”
Dev’s mouth twitched as he forced himself to say with a smile, “Well, you did nothing wrong, my dear brother. I was just thinking of giving you a pat on the back, so come a little closer.”
Abhi stared at Dev with a poker face for some moments before finally saying, “Yeah, not falling for that,.” Saying so, he ran like a thief who had just stolen something from Dev.”
Dev couldn’t help but get mad at this sight. He shouted loudly as he also ran, trying to catch Abhi, “Wait, you big moron, your big brother is itching to give you a pat.”
