Intro

“The earliest known human civilizations of Sumer, the greatest known empire Rome, the ancient Egyptians and the various current countries all have one thing in common. Their belief in a higher power. Most cultures depict gods and goddesses as supreme beings able to manipulate nature and its forces. The Greek pantheon has 12 major deities: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Ares, Apollo, Artemis, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Hermes and Hestia. Each of them was the administrator of a certain aspect of the reality that the Greeks lived in. The question we ask in our lecture today is whether there is a higher power or is it just a safety net made by humans to feel certain of the uncertain elements in their time.”

A middle-aged man on the podium stops speaking and looks to the audience. There were around a few hundred people in the hall. He sees a young man in his 20s raise his hand for a question.

“Yes, what is your question?”

“So, as we know it science has progressed further in the last 200 years than in all of human history. This brings me to ask whether the necessity of belief has been fulfilled due to the explanations provided by science for the cause of natural phenomenon and will humanity every proceed to completely eliminate religious belief from society?”

The young man didn’t worry about whether there is a god or not. He was inquiring about the future of humanity as a species of science. The man on the podium looking intrigued says:

“Humanity is indeed a species of science yet even with all of our technological advances we still believe in a higher power. Various phenomena around the world such as the Bermuda anomaly, paranormal activity, superhuman feats outside of our scientific scope and various other aspects give us room to feel insecure about our place in the world. A belief in a higher power puts the human psyche at ease and allows us to abstract the unnecessary details of our world. As such I believe that religion and religious belief will always exist to a certain extent within our society.”

The young man felt content with the answer and sat down.

“This brings me to another point of our class today. That is, the 4th dimension. As some of you may know that our world, we live in is 3 dimensional i.e., front and back, up and down and space. So, our 3-dimensional world is what we perceive but new advances in Quantum physics tells us that there may be higher dimensions co-existing in ours but not perceivable by humans or any 3-dimensional being for that matter. Can this 4th dimension sustain life, sentient life or otherwise? Since we cannot perceive this dimension this will forever be a mystery to us until science advances to an extent of interacting with the 4th dimension. And with this I will see you in the next session”

The man on the podium walked down and out of the hall. He was greeted by the young man who asked the question earlier:

“Hi, I’m Michael. I really enjoyed your session today do you mind if I take an interview of you later?”

“Sorry, I have busy week ahead could you contact me at a later date”

The man handed him a business card and left. Michael looked as the business card:

“Dr. Bern Hoffmann, I’ll be seeing you.”
