Bread

The luminescent moonlight illuminated the slums revealing bearded drunks, raggard infants and sunken eyes.

And within the vast slums stood a boy.

Messy black hair, good height but a frail body and rags that reached the floor

As my rags scratched across my skin and my feet squirmed at the cold-hard floor, my eyes lay upon a piece of bread laying deep within the mud.

I quickly looked both ways before dashing through the mud towards the bread.

My fingers strained at the rough and heavy bread as I urged my body to rush out.

I quickly jumped behind a pile of abandoned boxes, my paranoia pushing my eyes from side to side.

After one more safety check, I heaved a breath of relief. As he slowly teared and chewed pieces of the stale bread he looked at the shadows of the alleyway.

And the shadows stared back.

He springed back out of instinct. A fist quickly met his face and soon another. He was left no time between the attacks however he soon noticed the lack of power in the attacks and jumped forward to meet the next.

The assaulter, shocked hesitated for a moment.

A moment that would cost him his life.

The assaulter returned with his relentless attacks only to meet a swift uppercut masked with a faint, red energy.

The result? He could only watch as his blood tainted the floor and his neck met cold metal.

The boy watched as a hollow-eyed man with a malnourished body, ribs on display lay on the floor cold.

The boy quickly ran back to the bread, eager to finish it fast.

As he wolfed it down, a hand met his shoulder and blue eyes that glowed in the darkness met his black eyes.

And but a word was spoken.

"Share."

The blue-eyed boy was frail and short but his eyes roared determination.

Silence ensued as the two looked at each other in the eyes almost peering into each other's souls before...

"If you join my group." The boy spoke raspily but hints of hope could be heard.

"If join, food?" The blue-eyed boy spoke fast and waited for his answer.

The boy nodded.

The blue-eyed boy put his had on his chest as he spoke triumphantly "I join."

The boy smiled meekly and chucked the remains of the bread,

2 Years Later...

"Deylor," A blue-eyed boy with ash-blonde hair called out. "Hurry or we won't be able to find the wolf!"

"Calm down, Jack." A boy with messy black hair and deep black eyes spoke."It's not going to disappear."

As the two boys ran throughout the streets they quickly arrived at their destination.

And the wolf?

Gone.

"What?" Deylor spoke.

"I could of sworn that the wolf was right here when I left."

His voice worried and frustrated.

Jack furrowed his eyebrows as he loudly exclaimed "So much for it's not going to just disappear..."

And as the two boys felt their backs sore from the sweltering heat they left, dissapointed and boiled.

And within the shadows a growl was heard.

"Ja-"

Thud. A loud impact and Jack was sent flying down the alley.

"Garh-"

Thud. A loud impact and Deylor was sent flying down the alley.

The wolf left no breaks as it quickly pounced Jack scratching with it's claws.

Jack shouted in agony trying to defend himself whilst getting some hits in but the faint magical aura on the beast dimmed his eyes.

"Deylor!" Jack screamed. "It's bloody awakened!"

As the wolf bit down on Jack's left arm and as Jack pounded it's back in a futile effort.

Time slowed.

Thud. A loud impact and the wolf was sent flying. A figure covered in a faint red aura chased after it.

Before the wolf could even lift a finger Deylor jumped on it and did the only thing he could do.

Beat it senselessly.

As Deylor pounded the beast left and right leaving no gaps the beast enraged opened it's jaw.

A revolving ball of flames quickly grew within it, Deylor enraged noticed it not as the ball grew to a dangerous size and the beast was seconds from releasing it

Time slowed.

An arm stretched.

A dagger protected.

A loud explosion sounded towards the left.

"Pay me back later." Jack said moodily as he lacked at the burnt stick that was once his prided dagger.

"If we survive." Deylor said nonchalantly.

As the boys both flanked the cautious wolf they quickly pincered it swiftly. Left with no options the wolf quickly prepared another charge.

As the flames grew large once more.

The wolf released them in a fiery blaze.

Right in front of Deylor.

Time slowed.

A bent figure quickly sent flying. His blood tainted the floor.

Jack closed his eyes in grief as he took on the wolf head-on. He dodged two strikes and got skimmed by a third. Before he got in range. He quickly put his left arm around the wolf's neck before using all the force he could muster to smash it to the floor.

Thud. The wolf howled in agony before it quickly surged with mana. It quickly overpowered Jack as it lay on top of him. It's mouth reared, it's breath heavy on Jack.

It went for the bite.

Jack didn't try to avoid this fate instead he quickly moved his body forward forcibly before shoving his hand up the wolf's neck. And as he did so a black-haired figure covered in a red aura holding a knife slashed down piercing through the wolf's thick hide and down its neck.

"God i'm tired" Deylor spoke raspily.

"Tell me about it." Jack replied on a similar level of raspi-ness.

And the two boys slowly limped off to the distance, a wolf between their shoulders and a smile on their faces.
