The King's Jester - Chapter 2 Merchant Kain

Warning You are dying of starvation

It has been quite some time since Lazarus has eaten any food. It is not easy for one who slays men to recklessly walk into a city or town and expect no one to come forward to take his head. There are many who would take on the odds of one to ten thousand for a shot at his bounty put up by people who wanted vengeance.

So now Lazarus roamed aimlessly through the area looking for the main road that connects cities and sets up a small camp at the edge of the forest peering at the road waiting to ambush someone who walks by.

The road was empty and not many travelers come by this part so that means less chances to find someone to rob for food. But at the same time there are less troublesome witnesses to take care of.

In the distance came an older man in his twenties that goes by the name Kain. He recently sold a bunch of silk to a guild, telling them lots of stories how the price is bound to rise! Little did they know that he just scammed them into buying third rate silk and the market is about to drop. He walks greedily down the road to the main city and neglected to hire bodyguards because he was afraid that the guild would had found out if he stood any longer.

That was his mistake.

A desperate looking young boy with sullen eyes approached Kain, ‘Ah, probably another beggar’ and he looked Kain straight into his eyes.

There was a certain depth to him. An deep empty gaze that sucks at your hopes and dreams.

Kain gulped,“You need something kid?”. ‘He’s probably just lost, why is a kid doing alone in the middle of this place?’ “You lost?”

Lazarus took out his rusty blade. ‘AHAHA! Who does this kid think I am?’ But then there was those eyes ...they just told him there’s something off about that kid.

“How about this kid, i’ll give you 2 pieces of silver and you scram ok?”

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

He nodded no and spoke in a soft tone, “ I want some food...”

‘Pff ahaha! that’s all he wants?’ “Why don’t you just go to that city down the rode with me?”

He again nods no. Only now did Kain realize that the kid was a pker and he starts sweating feverishly. ‘aw shit...that guild probably sent this kid out here’

“I am willing to trade this for food.” Kain approached the boy cautiously and looked at the equipment. There was a silver longsword and some plates made for warriors. The requirements were around level 100.

‘Holy crap...where the hell did this kid get this stuff?’ The merchant looked at the items and appraised them at several dozen gold.

“How about this, I’ll give you all the food I got on me and 50 pieces of silver?”

Lazarus happily accepted the trade.

“And since i’m feeling like such a nice guy, I’ll add you as a contact and fence some of your goods later alright?”

Kain added to contacts

‘Good thing I didn't piss him off. Player killers are unpredictable. If i'm trading with this kid again next time i’m going to bring very minimal stuff in case he just decides to kill me.’

“Alright then see ya, i’ll be heading north to the city”

They walk separate ways and Lazarus eats his food with a small happiness. He thanked Kain for his kindness and went off his own way.

‘Did that kid not know I scammed him? Sheesh...eh maybe next time i’ll introduce him to a blacksmith I know.’

Author's Notes: Hope you enjoy this chapter. I'll try to release 1 chapter per week or 4-5 per month... Going to basic training in a few weeks so I won't be able to write until I get into AIT and get access to a computer. If I am not able to write... Maybe i'll release 5 chapters for every month I miss. And yes, the chapters are pretty short. I'm pretty new to writing.
