Chapter 9: Live Backwards

Some time after Inu left, Liv lay on her back with her eyes closed. Her body still ached, but the pain was too familiar for her to be bothered by it. Agony had made a home in her body. It seemed to have spread there from her mind. Soon she would probably infect the outside world. No. That's what it had all started with.

'Inu is really taking his time,' Liv thought, scratching her neck marked by dirty wounds.

Her whole being was filthy. She hadn't been able to properly wash herself in ages. If discomfort could kill...

She sprung up into a sitting position. Slowly, the dark figure of a man revealed herself. Next, she saw the knife.

"Ey, girl alone in the dark" She heard a hoarse voice whisper. "You here alone?"

Liv was about to sigh. Then she remembered Inu's theory. Instead of her first instinct, she put a hand up and made her voice higher. "Please don't hurt me. I'm all alone."

The man snuck closer, his snake-like features becoming apparent. Snakeface then smiled and sheathed his knife. "Oh, I won't hurt you. But someone else will. You can come with me. I'll take good care of you... if you do what I say."

"You'd do that?" Liv asked, deeply touched by such kind words.

"Of course," Snakeface said as softly as he probably could. "Now get up."

'Charming," Liv thought before standing and beginning to walk forward carefully. When close enough, Snakeface took her arm and yanked her closer. Liv ripped her hand from his grasp from instinct.

Stolen novel; please report.

"Bitch, I said I wouldn't hurt you," Snakeface hissed. "You are thinking I tell lies, aren't you?"

He tried to get closer. Liv'd had enough and pushkicked him in the stomach. Snakeface didn't like it and it was time to use the knife. He unsheathed it and launched forward aiming at the neck. Apparently, the man wasn't much of a romantic.

Liv watched out for her thigh but rushed forward as well. There was a snap. The next thing she knew was Snakeface hand punching into her neck. It made her head shake, and for a second, she wasn't sure what had happened.

Then she felt it and smiled. She wrapped her arm around Snakeface's head and hugged their bodies together tightly. Something dripped down on her shoulder. She pulled away and wiped her shoulder clean.

"I'm sorry it had to end so quickly. Someone like you deserves more," Liv said looking down at the man with a knife plunged straight into his chest. She walked closer and crouched next to the panicking man. He was full of hows and whys, his hands trembling to touch the hilt of his own knife. "Ah, let me get that for you." Liv reached out and pulled the knife out with one quick movement. The man curled, shook, and tried to make the bleeding stop.

She felt different, watching the man die so close to her. There was something unreal about it. The man was so occupied with desperately keeping himself alive that he didn't even have the mental capacity for emotions like hatred. During the past year, Liv had discovered there to be different types of diers. This one was the pathetic type.

Liv snorted and grabbed Snakeface's chin. She then rotated his head. Made him look at her. That's when her eyes glowed in the dark. "Scream,"

The man did as asked. Or more like commanded. It was certainly a scream, but nothing she hadn't heard before. "Thanks. Now I'd like you to die. Don't worry, I'll do it for you."

Liv raised the knife overhead and punched it a few times into the man's chest and throat before sticking it into his eye. Once it was done, she finally looked at what she had done. And felt nothing.

Snakeface was just Snakeface. A nobody. It was like killing an animal. But she wasn't even going to eat it. She wiped her face riddled with small droplets of blood. When she heard someone approaching her, she could think of only one simple thing to say as she sat there serenely. Then, slowly, she raised her head, her face spattered with blood and looked Inu in the eyes. "You were wrong."

Maybe she was going insane after all.
