2. The Journal

With a huge sigh I slowly walked into my villa, cracking a refreshing smile from the feeling of relief. I have accomplished my biggest goal, breaking free from the will of god, and now I feel pretty damn good. The cherry blossoms along the cobbled path look more vibrant than ever. Now that I am free, the world glows with a new hue. Color has returned to my life and I couldn’t be happier!

“What should I do now? Ask a pretty girl on a date? Or should I waste my time away on the couch now that I’m free?” As I walked towards the couch, a novelty I started keeping in my tenth reincarnation suddenly came to mind. “Maybe I should keep a journal again, organize my thoughts a bit more now that I’m going off script.”

I walked through the halls of my villa, silently surveying the place. The walls and floor sparkled, as if freshly cleaned. Paintings from famous contemporary artists line the walls. My mom in this world says they make you smarter when you walk by them everyday. I don’t know about that, but the love and careful attention of a mother is making me feel warm inside today. Ah damn, I’m getting emotional just thinking about my freedom again!

My room in this villa is the nicest place I’ve ever had the luck to live in. First, the door is a masterpiece of carving. A bat, a fish, and a crane all stand lifelike in the wooden frame, something that has freaked me out in the middle of the night more than once. My room itself is simple yet opulent. A large bed fills the center of the room, at first glance anyone could tell just how expensive of a piece it is. An ornate desk, carved with motifs of onis and butterflies floating around a raging fire, stands imposingly in front of the largest window in the room. Most of my stuff is kept in my closet, I prefer a room that has plenty of walking space.

The only thing on my desk is a pc, I actually have a separate study for ‘serious’ work, my room is mostly for playing with the ladies or shitting around. I approach my desk and open the top left drawer, where my empty journal sits. I don’t know if there was a ‘Xu Mingyuan’ that lived in this world before I possessed his body, but if there was I really doubt he’s the type to keep a journal. I’ve wondered since the last reincarnation who put it in his desk, but I suppose it's a mystery that doesn’t need to be solved.

I sit down with the diary and open to the first page. -Today, I opened my eyes to the tenth reincarnation. The despair I felt upon reawakening was almost too much to bear, but the heavens heard my call. I was released from this hell and granted life anew. I have to thank Wang Ling and Liu Yingyue for providing me with the perfect situation for my debut. What marriage, ha! The look on the dumb bitch’s face was beautiful, today was truly a blessed day!-

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

What else is there to say? With that, I put down my pen. A feeling of satisfaction pulses through me again, prompting me to lean back in my chair and take it in with eyes closed. ‘Fuck man, I can’t stop thinking about how free I am.’ My smile only grows wider.

Suddenly, under my closed eyelids I see a bright light. It appears without warning and grows brighter by the second. I quickly open my eyes to see the source. The journal I had just written in is now floating in the air, spinning and vibrating like a spinning top that's lost its balance but not its momentum.

“What the hell?! This never happened in my other lives, what’s happening to the journal?!” The light grows so bright it shines like the sun, completely blinding and overwhelming to even look in the direction of. A low hum fills the air, an ominous sound.

Without any fanfare, the book drops on the desk and loses its light. My eyes are still flashbanged by the absurd phenomenon, but my curiosity takes over. I grab the journal and slowly open the first page.

-Today, I opened my eyes to the tenth reincarnation. A sense of overwhelming hopelessness hit me. Will I ever escape this fate? Liu Yingyue and Wang Ling stood before me the same as ever before. One look at Yingyue and I remember all of the times I saved her, all of the hours I spent with this woman while disguised over the course of these years. I can’t be mad at her for today's events, I know she is a victim of the plot the same as I. How I wish we two could be free from Wang Ling and this world's machinations. Fairy Yingyue, I still hold you in my heart.-

“AAAAAHHHHH what is this bullshit!? Did I really write this?! What fairy? Dog Yingyue is her name!” A panic and rage filled me. ‘What on earth is this? Did I really write this?’ I grabbed at my hair and paced the room. After taking a deep breath, I slumped back down in the seat. “Haa, why did this thing suddenly change? What is the world trying to tell me?” I pondered deeply about the magical scene that just occurred.

“Wait a second, tenth reincarnation?” I read the filthy passage in the book again. “I don’t get it, this is definitely my tenth reincarnation.” The more I thought about it, the more confused I became. Admittedly this was a strange life from the start, when I broke the script, but I didn’t expect so many things to change in such a short period.

“For now I will keep an eye on the journal and stay cautious. I may be free but there's clearly something else going on in this world. If I want to remain free I should remain wary.” I can only do something like this for now. With any luck, entering the academy tomorrow will be uneventful. I just want a peaceful life.
