Chapter 3: Fiction

Coughing violently I awoke to see a plane of white stretching out before me as far as the eye could see were two cute young girls stood, one had blonde hair the other had brown hair. Two pairs of golden eyes observed me as I flopped back to the ground going right back to sleep.

“Hehehe”, the girl's laughter was an incredible sound I thought, as I opened my eyes again to find one girl snuggled in each of my arms. I couldn’t help but smile at their cute faces. Then the blonde awoke rubbing her eyes, she let out a little cry which woke the other.

They were both red-faced, like children, caught doing the wrong thing. I turned my gaze away from the girls to where I was as I caught sight of a golden tree standing in the centre, and wrapped around the trunk of the tree was a large snake.

“Ouroboros”, I muttered almost to myself, the snake as if reacting to my words raised its head, was it smiling he thought.

“Not fair, why does Ouroboro’s get all of the attention”, I turned to see the girls pouting, I sighed why where children such a bother.

“Who are you?”

“Guides! Guides!”, they both cried smiling as if proud of themselves for something that I had yet to realise.

“So it’s true, yes it is true after all”, they muttered and sadness touched their brows.

Trying desperately to change the mood I while still laying on the ground, it was great ground, I could even fall asleep it was that good asked them a question, “So what are you here to do?”

As if realising what they were here to do they both smiled, “Congratulations you passed!”, they both cried.

“Umm, passed what?”

“The test”, they said turning and the body of the woman I had just saved appeared, she opened her eyes and slowly got to her feet as she did her clothes changed and she matured to someone in their thirties and a long cloak could be seen around draped around her shoulders.

She held herself with an elegance and dignity that I had never seen before, I was captivated.

“That was a magnificent job”

“But I failed”, I muttered remembering how I failed to save her.

“This test is not about the result but what you did and your intentions, and you passed splendidly it is an honour to have you join our ranks, Aion”

“Wha”, I gurgled as I sat up.

“We can’t have anyone becoming gods and just dropping into our world you see after all a lot of people who die are, well let's just say they are very unsavoury people, so we test them to see if they are really worthy of becoming a god”

“What’s the fail rate”

“99.9999% fail”

“Why does it feel as if you just pulled that number out of nowhere?”

“That’s because I did”, I stopped for a second, who just admits to that? Curious I asked another question.

“What happens to them?”

“They continue living in a world we have created until they die naturally of old age, never learning that they were simply living a dream”

That sounds nice I thought as I flopped back down, “But you don’t have to worry about that as you have passed magnificently, that was the third quickest time, if you had saved the soldiers earlier then you could have been number 1”

I don’t want to be number 1 I thought that’s just a bother, “oh we also took all your memories”

“Why take my memories?”

“As a god, we can’t have any biases, and to remove all connections to the other world to stop you trying to go back, the memories you have received are fake and I will be taking them back now, please bear with it”

“Bear with I”, I cried out in pain as I clutched my head it felt as if someone was placing increasing and increasing pressure on my head, then the pressure was gone and I was able to collapse back to the ground.

I turned, “Why do I know what this all is still?”, I asked.

“We have taken you’re personal memories but have kept all the relevant information for you, to help your transition”

“Okay”

“Well it’s about time”, she said as she clapped her hands and I was sucked up by a portal that appeared beneath me, “Don’t forget to call if you need any help”, she called as I plummeted through space.

I was just aware of falling and falling and falling but it felt rather strange as there was no sensation of falling, it was more that I just knew that I was falling, it was like an out of body experience.

I turned inside the darkness of the portal to observed Ourobos falling next to me, his head was next to mine its size was gargantuan, we met eyes for a second before the sensation of falling became all too real and I was now falling through the air.

A cloud drifted by as several birds flew past my head, Ouroboros was still by my side however he had changed into his humanoid form so as not to create a stir. I closed my eyes, it was a nice sensation falling once you get used to it I thought before my body hit something incredibly hard.

The loud sound of a crash echoed out as I fell through what could only be described as a roof to land heavily on a carpeted floor, right in front of a young man who was on his knees as if in prayer.

Ah, what do I do I thought in a hurry, argh that’s right I should greet him first, I raised a hand to the startled young man, “Yo”.
