The Jaded Hierophant.
Mage? not quite, but close.

Mage? not quite, but close.

"Mori, you really should close down that run-down store, and try to get a better education." Morigan sat across from his mother, as she picked delicately at her food.

that run-down store is what kept us afloat while Jacob was becoming the son you were all so proud of.

"I like the store Mom. I'm not going to shut it down just because you think its embarrassing." Morigan said, a little more bite in his tone than he had intended.

With an offended scoff, Alice looked at her husband, and he took the cue to step in.

"Do not talk to your mother like that. Brat." he said, his eyes not really meeting Morigans. "We just want whats best fro you you know,"

"exactly!" His mother chimed in again. " We want you to be able to find a good wife, and being the owner of a corner store bodega isn't exactly going to help you get a woman of class."

wow... low blow mom.

"Ah so because I'm doing a peasants job, I'm now unworthy of a mate? even though that peasant's job helped you pay for your ho so noble title doctor?" venom seeped into the last few words as Morigan looked at his passive older brother in silent fury. "it was good enough when no one here could make enough to cover it and i stepped up, but now suddenly its a massive problem that will always come up at every single monthly dinner." Morigans voice was now sad. "what am I even doing here if I'm..." he shook his head.

"Son, we're just trying to help" he heard his father, but just shut down the rest of the night.

keep quiet, and keep your head down. they dont even care to come have a look at the new renovations that were done on the place, or the fact that I almost have enough to set up another store now. all that matters to them is the fact that I have a crappy four year university degree in General studies. No nobility in that right?

as soon as i got into my beat up old Toyota, pulled my phone out, and looked at my favorite blogger sites.

@F*CKUCLESAM: the number of portals is increasing. One just opened in my neighbourhood, and it looks soooo cool!!!

@WHOSYOURdaddy: dude those things are crazy dangerous. are you sure you wanna be that close to one of them

@whUUT: let him go. RIP @F*UCKUNCLESAM. you will be missed. RIP in the chat everyone.

I scrooled, hoping to catch more info about these portals. they seemed fairly interesting, so I did somelight digging, and found that there was one about thirty minutes from my store. the government wasn't very keen on letting people see the portals up close, saying something about an adverse reaction with unknown particles. i figured a long distance drive by wouldn't be a bad idea, so I took off in that direction, after saying goodby to my mother, father, brother, and sister-in-law
