Chapter 2 - The Paradox Event

Chapter 2 - The Paradox Event

Terry and Princess Veronica stood in awe, gazing at the colossal, metallic structure that loomed ahead of them. It’s surface reflecting the faint glow of a distant galaxy. It felt like they were no longer in their own reality. The unsettling silence was suddenly broken as a blue beam of light flickered into existence behind them.

The light pulsed and expanded, and out of it stepped a humanoid figure, its form slightly obscured by the glow of the beam. As it emerged fully, they could see that its skin was a pale shade of blue, with golden eyes that glistened, as if filled with the glare of distant stars. The creature wore a long, flowing robe, cinched at the waist by a wide belt. It radiated an air of both elegance and authority. Terry and Veronica froze in place, their hearts racing. Despite humanity's advances in space exploration, they had never encountered anything like this before. Alien life had always been a question unanswered—until now.

The creature raised one hand slightly, its gaze fixed on the two humans. When it spoke, its voice was deep, resonating with an eerie echo. "Talak munug ka," it said, its golden eyes narrowing as it awaited a response.

Terry blinked, trying to process what he was hearing. “What?” he managed to utter, the word feeling inadequate in the face of such an encounter.

The creature continued in its strange language, “Lakoya setema shevet rakiya sa.”

Veronica’s brow furrowed as she exchanged a quick, bewildered glance with Terry. “What’s it saying?” she whispered, though Terry had no answers.

"I don’t follow," Terry said cautiously, hoping the creature might somehow understand.

The humanoid figure paused, a flicker of realization crossing its face. It stared at them for a brief moment, as if calculating something. Then, without warning, it began to vibrate. A low hum filled the air, and the ground beneath their feet seemed to shift. Suddenly, an invisible force washed over them, displacing the world around them in an instant. The landscape melted away, replaced by a realm of floating, dancing waves of energy. Terry and Veronica felt weightless as if gravity itself had ceased to exist.

In this strange, ethereal space, the creature spoke again, but this time its words were clear, spoken in perfect English. "Who are you," it asked, "and what business do you have here?"

Terry, still disoriented, straightened himself and mustered a reply. “My name is Captain Terry Hilgard, and this is Princess Veronica Firestine of Earth.”

The mention of Earth seemed to have a profound effect on the creature. Its golden eyes widened slightly in what appeared to be surprise or disbelief. “Earth,” it echoed softly, as though the word carried immense weight.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Terry quickly continued, “We didn’t mean to intrude. We’re lost travelers, far from home. We were transported here by some unknown force. We saw glitches—anomalies—everywhere, and before we knew it, we found ourselves in your territory. We would love to leave, but we have no way of getting back to our home planet.”

The creature studied them for a long moment, its expression unreadable. Then it let out a thoughtful hum. “Hmmm, it seems the problem is much worse than we thought.”

Terry exchanged a glance with Veronica, his sense of unease growing. “What do you mean?” he asked.

“You are victims of the Paradox Event,” the creature explained, its voice calm but grave. “Everything in the universe—every star, every planet, every atom—eventually wears down, decays. That includes the fabric of the universe itself. The universe has become unstable, and it is emitting waves of energy at an inconsistent rate. These energy waves are causing different points in space and time to intertwine and collide with one another.”

“My God,” Terry whispered. “So… it’s not just Earth that’s in trouble?”

“It’s the whole universe,” Veronica said quietly, her eyes wide with shock as she turned to face Terry.

“Indeed,” the creature confirmed. “The Paradox Event occurs once every millennium. As the universe weakens, the boundaries between different dimensions of space and time begin to blur. Lower dimensions of space meet higher dimensions, and past points in time collide with the present. That is why you are here, in this place.”

Terry rubbed his temples, trying to make sense of it all. “Wait,” he said slowly, “are you saying we’re from the past or a lower dimension of space-time?”

The humanoid's gaze softened, but there was a hint of condescension in its voice. “You humans are an inferior species,” it said plainly.

“Ouch,” Terry muttered under his breath, but the creature continued, unfazed.

“You hail from Earth, a lower dimension of mass located in the third dimension of space-time. You are not from the past in the way you understand it—your world simply exists at a lower vibrational frequency.”

Terry’s mind raced, struggling to grasp the enormity of what he was hearing. “Then… where are we now?”

The creature’s golden eyes gleamed with what might have been amusement. “You are in the fourth dimension of space-time,” it said. “Welcome, humans, to Anu—the home of the Annunaki.”

The name ‘Annunaki’ rang in Terry’s ears. He had heard it before, mentioned in ancient Earth mythologies—stories about gods from the sky. But those were just legends… right?

The creature continued, “The Annunaki have existed in this realm for eons, watching as lower-dimensional worlds like yours rise and fall. We are the custodians of higher dimensional knowledge, and we have observed your world for millennia.”

“So you know about Earth?” Veronica asked.

The creature inclined its head. “Yes. We know of your world’s struggles, its wars, its progress. But now, the universe’s instability has forced us into a dangerous new era. If the Paradox Event is not contained, the collision of dimensions could tear apart the fabric of reality itself.”

Terry’s stomach twisted. “And what happens to us?” he asked.

The Annunaki gazed at them both with a grim seriousness. “That depends. Your presence here is an anomaly, a side effect of the Paradox. But you may be of use.”

Veronica and Terry exchanged a glance. Their journey had just taken an unexpected and terrifying turn.
