A man sat at a desk. He let out an exasperated sigh, before opening his computer and beginning to write:

[Incident Synopsis: As of recent, many missing people cases have occurred in countries all over the world, with seemingly no relation or connections whatsoever. Law enforcement is at a complete loss as to what to do about this phenomenon that seems to be affecting this world]
[As of (REDACTED) I, Adam Baek, have been given authority to take over the investigation of this case, and as such will document my findings on this computer. The details of the case are as follows: since as long ago as 1976, there have been cases of people disappearing with no explanation. The scenes of disappearance resemble a wide array of cases of accidental deaths, from car accidents, to drownings to even death by animals. Despite the legitimacy each of these deaths appear to have, one thing sets these disappearances apart from deaths. Lack of bodies. For every single one of these incidents, the body of the victim is always missing, leaving families without anything to bury. Due to this, and despite all clues pointing to these cases simply being deaths, these instances are labeled as disappearances. I have been given two months to produce results, and for those two months have been given full access to all the resources and funding I could require from any place. In my opinion, with very few leads, this frankly seems as fruitless as a witch hunt, but I have been given a responsibility to solve this case, and despite what I think, this case is one I can’t let go unsolved as I have personal stakes in it as well.]
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
[A long time ago, in the beginning of the disappearances, before anyone thought the disappearances were anything more than missing person cases or random deaths, I had a friend, more than that, I had a sibling. It’s been long enough that I remember very little of them, but from the moment of our meeting, we were joined at the hip. We were very close, but one day, he disappeared. His shoe was found near a lake, so everyone just assumed he had slipped and fallen in. For years we mourned him, but now, despite the time it has been, there is a chance that he is alive. Even if he is dead, I owe it to him to at least attempt to find his body, and give him a proper burial.]
[Despite the considerable significance of this issue, this case has been given an almost comical name. The people who named it derived the name from some sort of genre of japanese media, apparently, which may be another lead to pursue in the future. This case file will consist of interviews, in-depth incident reports, and compilations of research, in order to finally get to the bottom of this case.]
[Adam Baek, signing off.]
Adam Baek closed his computer heavily, standing up from his desk and putting a coat on. He opened the door to his apartment, and went out into a quiet, empty world.
