Prologue: Darkness

Fear...

That was all that was going through my mind at the time. Of course, thinking back on it now, I realize it was either fear or lunacy that drove my actions, but I digress. I had only one objective, to reach the Rift and utilize its power to end the Void's tyranny. Easier said than done, though. To reach the Rift I had to go through the Temple Arcanum, filled with seemingly endless passageways and corridors one could easily get lost in. Not to mention the fact that there were the Guardians to deal with as well. Oh, right I almost forgot the Primordial Being trying to end my reality. How silly of me. Because I have a hope for my continued existence.

Back to the business at hand, I think to myself while running towards the Temple courtyard. If one ignored such things as, ya know, DEATH AT YOUR FRICKIN DOOR!!! - the scenery was quite nice. The courtyard consisted of only a very tall hedge wall with a golden archway that made up the entrance - why worry about things such as thieves or other undesirable things when the guards are Mages? Just inside was a fountain of sparkling water that appeared to have pure gold laced in when the sunlight hits it at just the right angle. Apart from that there were four wooden benches located on the cardinal points surrounding the fountain of gold.

Had I not been running for my life I might have enjoyed such sights.

Just as I reached the front doors of the rather modest looking Temple, I heard the most terrifying thing I think I will ever hear.

-SCREEEEECH!!!

Countless windows shattered as my ears started bleeding profusely. I barely managed to activate the ward of protection on the door before it too shattered. "Come on!", I shouted in frustration at my failure. "You could have at least WAITED!!!"

No such luck unfortunately. I looked around for the right corridor - they didn't call it the Antechamber of Passage for nothing.

Having finally found the correct path, I made my way towards the Inner Chamber. Not even this thing could possibly make its way through there.

I will never forget what happened in that Chamber, the power that coursed through me made my very soul tremble, and I was doing plenty of that already.

I ran inside the Chamber, quickly closing the doors behind me and sealing them with the Forbidden Seal, effectively preventing even the most potent of spells from entering.

I slid down the doors to the floor as I examined the opulent throne room. I found myself in a large circular chamber with eight white marble pillars holding up the domed ceiling, with the Mage King's Throne in the center. The ceiling itself consisted of various types of crystal, marble and all manner of precious metals. These all combined to create what one might assume to be a rendition of the skies of Heaven, the glass orb that served as a light source only completing the look. Well...it would have had it not been dislodged from its usual place in the center of the ceiling.

-SCHKCHKCHKCHK!!!

The sound of crashing glass brought me out of my stupor. A sigh escaped from my lungs as I slowly got up from my place at the doors. "You can't get through, so just give it a rest, yeah?", I said tiredly. Though I still moved away from the doors, just in case.

Silence enssued.

I couldn't believe it, did that thing just leave after I told it to? My relief was short lived, as cracks started to appear in the doors, with a purple-black glow permeating the area around them.Well, shit, here we go again was my only thought as the Void's presence filled the room with its darkness.

I glanced around in panic as I searched for anything that could help me fight this thing. My gaze rested on the Mage King's Throne, or more specifically, the Crown that was on it. Elation surged through me as I considered the possibilities of using the Crown of Power. I could destroy the Void utterly, my power would increase tenfold. Nothing would be able to stand in my way.

I would be Invincible.
