Chapter 7

The sun was burning high in the sky, as I stood in this relatively vacated field…or better described as a martial arts training ground…the fact that this is so filled out with stone and other material instead of being a muddy ground is a testament to the Wu clan’s power.

“Nephew,” the Grand Elder said, interrupting my thoughts,” I want you to strike this iron plate with all your strength!”

As he said that, he brought out an iron plate and fixed it on a post.

I carefully scrutinized it, as the Grand Elder explained.

“Take your time,” he said,” while your lifting strength is great, this shall test if your striking training paid off.”

Indeed, a man might lift many kilograms, but his punching strength may not be half of his lifting strength! That is if he isn’t properly trained of course.

While I had proper training! And now I must do tests to see if my training paid off.

So I carefully scrutinized it…and it seemed quite thick.

As such, I stood in front of it, my legs spread slightly and my knees bent. The position I was in is most often called the horse riding posture, and it trains the core muscles of the body.

So I took several deep breaths to increase the oxygen my blood, and my eyes went wide open.

“SHA!” I roared as my body twisted, and my palm shot out!

Bang!

The sound of iron being struck rang out, enveloping the whole training field.

And so in front of me was a result of my training, a severely deformed iron plate!

Then I felt the pain at the back of my head.

“Stupid!” the Grand Elder roared,” You didn’t move your Qi and Blood to increase your strength! This is just your basic strength!”

“Sorry Uncle Wu,” I said with a wry smile,” I just couldn’t resist testing it!”

I mean…I wanted to see if the combination of the Great Strength technique and the Great Kun Method would prove to be a great increase to my basic physical capabilities. After all, this is something I’ll likely have to re-practice if I get back. It would be good to train my basic strength, for I never know if I could move my blood to increase striking power!

“Alright…” the Grand Elder said,” this is to be expected with your constant practice of the Great Strength Technique, as it complements the Great Kun method quite well…So I shall give you another test!”

As he said that, the Grand Elder ordered some disciple or servant…or vassal. Or whatever he was to get another plate.

“Nephew, this is made from black iron,” the Grand Elder said,” it’s a material used for the armor of our Wu family elite troops, and its level of hardness and toughness is hard to replicate. It is one of the things that allowed our Wu family to be ranked in the top five families, for we have the best equipped soldier!”

Woah…that’s awesome. So it’s like a core resource of our Wu family, eh?

“So now,” the Grand Elder continued,” I want you to use all your strength when striking it! Do not hold back!”

“Yes!” I replied.

So the Grand Elder fixed the black iron plate to the post, and I was made to stand in front of it as I took the horse riding posture.

I closed my eyes and took a deep and sharp breath, the veins on my skin bulged, revealing themselves with great distinction, while the skin itself reddened.

In but a second, my eyes opened wide, like two round plates, while I pulled back my arm so that I may deepen my swing.

Soon, my arm itself turned purple, looking grotesque and demonic, especially when paired with my bulging veins. It was my blood and Qi getting directed towards there.

Several breaths of time passed as I stabilized the vigorous energy and finally, I shot out with my palm.

“SHA!”

My roar was met with a bang, while my palm experienced the strength of black iron!

In but a few seconds I checked it, and realized why I was feeling pain from it.

Some skin on my palm split open, revealing the red inside…yet the black iron plate fared far worse…

I, the emperor, have been victorious over a material borne out of the earth!

“After only three years…” the Grand Elder muttered,” Incredible.”

After he said those words he looked at me.

“Nephew you have excellent talent!” he said,” You achieved the level of minor accomplishment in the Great Kun Method in merely three years! You are truly a talent!”

“Uncle praises me overly,” I said,” It is thanks to Uncle’s teachings that I have this little level of strength.”

“Nephew,” he said,” do not be humble! Your talent is greater than mine, and your strength is first amongst the younger generation! I doubt most people outside of the thirteen families and the seven sects would be able to handle a strike of you. Even if I included the previous generations, I couldn’t find many who could take a direct strike from you!”

“Uncle Wu overpraised me!” I replied,” I still have many troubles, such as if they have a superior speed to mine…”

“Nephew,” the Grand Elder interrupted me as he lightly spoke,” watch out!”

The words confused me slightly, as I heard the shirking sound in the air.

An arrow-no! Several arrows were flying towards me!

I bent my knees and got on my toes as I shot out of the way to dodge them.

Several new arrows flew to my new location, as I realized that this was the Grand Elders’ scheme to test me! Or was it?

I mean he warned me of arrows…but he isn’t doing anything! So I doubt it isn’t his test. Even if assassins somehow got into the Wu family compound, I doubt they would have attacked the Grand Elders’ manor of all places!

Yet even if they don’t want to kill me, I mustn’t underestimate them lest I get poisoned, or some other serious injury occurs upon my body being struck by the arrows! After all, one can never be too cautious…

An arrow flew towards my head, and I jerked my neck to dodge it.

The head is one of the smallest body parts, so if I expected it to be hit I can dodge it with rather great ease.

Hmm…But one can be overly cautious in action. Thus, they would lose their courage and initiative and are more likely to lose!

One must be cautious in planning, but vigorous in action!

Now the best way to get out of this situation is either wait for them to run out of arrows, or find their location and beat them half to death one by one!

Them running out of arrows is unlikely, as they could have a great amount of them, or worse-

Fuck! An arrow struck me!

Seeing as the arrow struck me in the chest due to overthinking, I rushed towards the place from which it came from!

My movements were quick and focused, so I didn’t unnecessarily overthink the battle, but simply formulated a simple plan of finding the attacker and subduing them, and followed it!

Soon, I reached the place, where I saw a figure clad in robes, with a bow aimed at me!

Yet I already jumped at the figure, using both the momentum of my jump and the strength of my palm to strike it! But the arrow was released.

So I simply took the hit, yet the figure rolled out of the way, dodging my palm as it struck a wall.

The wall broke, leaving a bit of a dust cloud that the figure used to try to escape from me!

Good! So you think you can run from this emperor? Let’s see you try!

I used my footwork to its utmost to catch up to the figure, who already jumped onto the roofs of buildings in the vicinity.

So I chased after it with utmost conviction, but I also noticed that no more arrows were coming, apart from the figure releasing a few when given the chance…

Could it be that this is a master archer? I mean, I doubt anyone but a master archer could release so many arrows.

As such thought entered my head, I stomped on the roof of the building, making a good amount of the roof tiles into scraps that I kicked in the direction of the figure.

It was like a shotgun blast, yet only a meager few of them struck the figure, slowing it down slightly.

Yet the slight slowdown was enough for me, as I jumped at it and tackled it to the ground.

“Let go of me,” it roared with a feminine voice…

“You struck me with several arrows,” I replied,” I won’t be letting go of you anytime soon!”

Yes! You shall teach me archery! I may know the basics, but who wouldn’t want to be able to shoot several arrows at one or a hawk out of the sky?

Or some other flying animal…eagles and hawks are cool, and so are falcons…but if I could shoot them out of the sky I probably would!

“Hahaha!” a roaring laughter came from the side,” I didn’t think you could catch my granddaughter so quickly!”

It was the Grand Elder, who continued amidst his intermissions of laughter,” I didn’t think you would catch her at all!”

“Hmm?” I hummed,” Why do you think so Uncle Wu?”

“Why of course it’s because she is a footwork master!” he said,” Do you think many could catch her?”

Well now that I looked at her…she had a tall and slender figure, with one arm seemingly slightly longer than the other, while her legs were quite long as well.

I casually touched her calves, and found them incredibly well developed.

“Where are you touching?” she cried out angrily…

Well, I am just appreciating your physique…

“Sorry about that,” I said with a smile,” my name is Wu Xiang, may I know yours?”

My quick apology was due to the fact that I knew that should I argue with a woman over something I do, even if I win she would be angry and offended.

Now, I don’t want to have any sort of bad relationship with the Grand Elder, so I need to not offend his granddaughter.

“You!” she seemed angry, before she finally calmed down a bit,” My name is Wu Xieren, now could you-“

Before she finished her words I got up from her and extended a hand.

“It’s just martial arts,” I said,” no hard feelings?”

She took my hand, allowing me to help her get up,” Alright!”

“Good that you two made peace!” the Grand Elder said,” Now, I hope you do realize that your footwork is quite formidable, right nephew?”

“Yes…”

“Good!” the Grand Elder said as he clasped his hand,” Now, how do you two feel about getting married?”

“What? (x2)”
