Chapter 35: Uneventful Aftermath

Terra and Lin Feng watched the conclusion of the battle. The apparition and final blow horrified them both. Their master who had brought life to their dark lives was now terribly mangled.

They would have lost all hope, but seconds later Ben's flesh began healing at a visible rate. Blood stopped flowing from his wounds and blood vessels spread like thin spider webs over the traumatized areas.

‘You should be able walk in fifteen minutes. Your abdominal wall is mostly closed, there was minimal damage to your internal organs.’ Alice informed him.

‘Your arm isn't showing any signs of improvement. There's too much damaged tissue. Blood vessels have been burnt away so the healing properties of your blood can't reach that area, there also seems to be some remnant of the fire demons Qi stuck there.’

‘Can I refine it?’

‘We can try, but it’s highly unlikely. There is some other originating force that hasn’t been cut off yet. Considering your monumental stupidity in that last fight, you got lucky. Just promise me that you won't do that again.’ Alice pleaded.

‘You know I can't do that. I'm a human being. I lose my temper sometimes.’ He admitted.

‘It's not that. You began walking down the path of The Asura just now. You actually sprinted down it at absurd speeds, passing through it's first two realms already. This may be because you also practice blood refining and spirit manipulation, it may be due to your mental instability.’

‘You've already called me a idiot. Let's not start labeling each other. I know you're a collection of silicon, copper and a few other materials, but I don’t call you names. I love you and you know that.’ Ben said gently.

‘Shut up, you're making me blush. North America just saw a 10% increase in electricity usage and im having a tough time explaining it.’ Alice had a happy tone to her voice.

‘So I’ll be working with one arm for a few days?’

‘Weeks, maybe years? You’ll drop several levels in cultivation and take numerous treasures to regenerate your arm.’

‘Hmmmmm. Hows it going on Earth?’

‘It fine now. There is a huge difference between a toddler with a gun and a adult. Cultivation has led to everyone being stronger. Mass produced pills and formations in the cities have allowed everyone to jump straight to the Body Tempering Realm. It’s only been a few weeks and we already have Qi Condensation Cultivators.’

The two of them talked back and forth while celestial bodies spun.

The rift had closed, all nearby fire demons had died. A short moment of peace came after the intense struggle.

Ashes fell like snow. Heat radiated from the molten hellscape. Dark grey clouds shrouded the skies.

Terra and Lin Feng both knew when to wait, as the saying goes, children should be seen and not heard. They watched Ben heal, studied the landscape, reviewed what they had seen and cultivated themselves while they waited, watching.

Minutes passed, then hours.

Piece by piece his body was rebuilt, his arm, however, remained crippled. Fresh skin covered his leg, torso and face, but his right arm still remained cadaverous. It looked like something taken from a corpse, shriveled and black.

Ben walked over the melted ground to the two pillars. They stood there, unmarred by the years. It seemed the rift in space had closed itself after the three eyed apparition passed through.

While he was studying the area, he felt the peculiar feeling of someone watching him. Looking around, his gaze landed on the three eyed figure in the mural. He had guessed that the evil three eyed spirit he killed was the same as the carving in the pillar, but now he realized that the carving and the spirit had several major differences.

The figure on the pillar definitely had a physical body, it was also at least a dozen meters tall. This meant that what he had fought was much weaker than the real thing.

The third eye on the pillar was also still glowing. Ben felt himself being watched from some distant location.

Concerned that he may not be safe, he ordered the spirit vessel to land. Terra, Lin Feng, Lilith and the rest helped bring aboard the Black Devil Stone along with it’s obsidian lotus formation. The two pillars were lifted off the ground and brought aboard as well.

Taking the spoils of war, Ben’s group left the area.

The rift had closed and what had caused it to open was taken away. There were still demons in the area, but they would soon be overpowered by the forces of mankind.

The country of Vorchin was gone. In its place was a blasted wasteland. Over the course of decades it would heal, but that would be as slow as the shifting of mountains and the draining of seas.

Ben could take the place in hand and make it healthy in a month, but what would be the point in that? He had more important things to do, like appreciating ancient art.
