"Can anyone tell me what the author means by this?" Professor Lee circles a phrase on the chalkboard, a waiting an answer.
I raise my hand, "it's a metaphor. To symbolize his idea of love over lust."
"Very good, Kiera." He nods, writing it down on the board. "The difference between the two is-.. Saghaan." He turns around to see the boy in the back of the class, headphones in.
Saghaan looks up at the older male, raising an eyebrow. "What?"
"If you do not wish to be here, I will not force you to stay. Although keep in mind this class is nescessary for you to graduate."
The boy stands up, grabbing his backpack off the back of his chair and slinging it over his shoulder. "Cool." Without hesitation, he heads toward the door.
"I'll go ahead and drop you from this cou-" Professor Lee is cut off by the door slamming shut, rattling a few things on his desk. He let's out a sigh, "and that, students, is a pristine example of someone who's going to be working at McDonald's for the rest of his life. Now then. Where were we?" He turns back around to write on the board once again.
Why would he take this class if he's just going to leave? He almost never shows up, yet somehow he was still registered. I begin to wonder about this Saghaan. What are his motives? Who is he?
I lose myself in thought, trailing away from the lesson at hand until I hear my professor's voice break the silence.
"Alright. That concludes today's lecture. Be sure to submit your research papers online tonight by midnight."
I stand up from my seat and pull my bag over my shoulder. Professor Lee calls me over to his desk and reads over something. It looks like our last big project.
"Kiera you are on the best track. I am astounded by your efforts." He looks up at me and gives a tired smile. "I see a bright future ahead of you."
I grin and nod my head. "Thank you sir. I strive for the best."
"You're going to do great things, Kiera. I know it." After that is said and done, he dismisses me, so I make my way out to the courtyard.
Gazing around the garden like area, I spot my friends. Hailey, whom I've known since pre-school, Izzy, and Reah. I met Izzy and Reah in high school. Ever since then, we've been inseperable. I head over to the blanket covered grassy patch and sit down, adjusting the bottom of my cardigan over my lap.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
"So what the hell was thay guy's problem?" Izzy says, opening and chugging down a RedBull.
"What guy?" I look at her strangely, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"That guy who just out of nowhere left your class," she replies with some sarcasm in her tone.
"Oh you saw that? Yeah I have no idea... But what a jackass... He just up and left like it was nothing! No care in the world! Does he not care about his future? Or any aspect of his life?" I'm starting to get a little more intruigued the more I open my mouth.
"Not gonna lie though.. The bad boy persona is petty attactive." I hear Reah finally pipe up from her phone. "What did you say his name was?"
I shoot her a look of disgust, "I didn't... but appaently it's Saghaan."
Reah is the social stalker of the group. Want to find something out about someone, she's got the infomation. I personally believe she asked, for her own benefit.
"Huh... That's bizarre.." She sits up a bit straighter and looks at her cellphone very confused. "He has an instagram, but there's only one post..." She turns her phone to show the rest of us. "From three months ago, and its just a picture of his shoes."
"Oooh mysterious~" Hailey giggles. "Sorry Reah, your boy toy conquest is a bit fruitless." Oh yeah. I forgot to mention Reah is a bit of a whore, and everyone knows it.
"What? He's hot, and he's tall so you know he's got a bi-"
I cut her off just in time before she says something way too stupid to come back from. "Okay! So how about we all go get like... Lunch or something?"
Izzy pipes up again finally. "I have an even better idea."
We turn our attention toward the redhead, noticing a devious look on her face. "We should all go to D-A tonight. They're hosting some kind of event."
"Is that that club you go to all the time?" Hailey chimed in. "The one where that one girl took shots out of Reah's boobs?"
Izzy snaps her fingers, "Yep! That's the one! They're hosting something called a Maquerave. Like of like a Masquerade but... a rave."
"I think we got it, Izz." Reah rolls her eyes. "I say fuck it. It's friday night, we've got nothing better to do. Unless Kiera is gonna be a square again." She shoots a smirk over at me.
"Hey! I'm not a square! I just have work to do." I rub my arm, a little defensive over her statement.
"Kiera you're getting fucked up tonight. No questions." Hailey puts a hand on my shoulder. "And extra points if you hook up with a guy in the bathroom~"
I smack her arm a little, "nasty! Why would you want me to do that?!"
She laughs, "I'm just kidding! Relax! I wouldn't want you to become Reah part two!"
"Hey fuck you!" Reah throws a crumpled up piece of paper at Hailey, and Hailey is still laughing, getting to the point of wheezing.
"I mean you probably would if I had a penis!"
Reah rolls her eyes, "god why is everyone bullying the shit out of me today?" She huffs and goes back to her cellphone. I guess she's still hunting more information on this Saghaan guy.
"So it's settled? We're going to D-A tonight?" Izzy sounds hopeful, clutching her hands together practically begging for us to say yes.
Reah nods, not looking up at any of us. "I'll go as long as you guys cool it with the slut jokes."
"Yeah why not. Kiera are you actually going to take a day off for once and have fun with your girls?" Hailey nudges me. I let out a frustrated sigh, reluctantly agreeing.
"Sure... Fine. Just keep an eye on me.. Okay? I don't drink often."
