Chapter 1: Musings of a Changeling Wolf

Chapter 1: Musings of a Changeling Wolf

"Damn light." I grouse. That elf always goes hard when it comes to the drink. She can never turn away from a drinking contest when there's money involved. I look around our room and spot the left over room service and drag myself out of my corner where i was curled up. I pad my way over, my tail hitting a wine bottle as I pass. There's not much left, apart from a chicken leg.

I look over at the wasted elf. " Your fault for not getting up on time." I snatch the leg and pad back to my corner and eat my meager breakfast. Once I finish, I shift to a favorite of mine, a plain looking mousy brown haired woman. Benefits to being a Changeling, almost any humanoid appearance at anytime (Druidic magic allowing for my wolf form). I proceed downstairs after raiding my companions clothes, settling on an old green dress that most common folk wear. I see the barmaid looking tired. Probably a late night cleaning.

"Hello." I smile.

"Lo" I get a moody response. Guess It was a tad rowdy after all. Gonna need to get that lazy Elf to pay this poor woman extra for her trouble.

"By any chance would you happen to know where the Adventurers Guild is?" I get an evil look at that.

"If you were involved in that chaos last night, then your bared from my tavern." she seethes. Yikes, what happened last night?

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

"No no no, I wasn't involved in anything!" I plead "I'm just grabbing some information and documents for a friend." She eyes me suspiciously

"Alright. But you tell that guild of thugs, they aren't welcome any more. You hear."

"Yes miss." Polite, be polite and we won't be kicked out. I hope

"Head down the street until you reach the fountain, then head left it's down there."

"Thank you miss."

I quickly nip up stairs and grab some money, just in case and head out. I head down the street taking note of the different stalls and shops. Some nice smelling food vendors and a blacksmith's, apothecary (useful). This seems to be a town that thrives off through traffic. I reach the fountain and head left, and make my way to the guild hall. I hope the slots for the hunt aren't full. After all the hunt is a chance for some real money. The Hunt is an annual event where hunters and adventurers participate to see who can bring in the biggest trophy. The greatest champion of the Hunt, Garret, earn't fame by bringing in a chimera! A feat never beaten in the 80 years since his death. Seriously, how are we supposed to top that? We'd need a wyvern or something!

Once i'd reached the guild, a four story building that looks like a repurposed manor with a few wanted posters and recruitment posters plastered around. One poster though caught my eye.

Good to know my kind is still public enemy number one. I didn't ask to be what I am you dicks! I stop and think back to those lonely days of running and hiding. Every day a gamble whether or not i'd wake up. Until I met her. She didn't care what I was. That was a shock. Not having someone throw rocks at me. Clearing my head I went in.
