“Hey! What are you doing in there?” The young female medical assistant asked and knocked on the protective barrier that surrounded the bed. A few other people, kids included, added their voices to hers. I ignored them and took out all of the things I would need. I hoped they would work, because I hadn't done anything like this before.
“You may feel tingling all over and I'm going to try and stop the pain from...” I started to explain and Hailey touched my hand.
“I trust you.” Hailey said. “I've never seen these... whatever these things are.” She said and knew not to touch the wooden placards. “Do you want me to lay down?”
I nodded and she lowered the bed and laid back.
“Okay. I'm ready.” Hailey said and closed her eyes.
The first thing I did was check her over with Presence. I let her feel some of it and she giggled as it tickled. I saw all the way through her and saw that she had almost no muscle tissue. Her body was practically eating itself as it degenerated. It took me a few minutes to find her Presence center near the base of her spine, because it was so weak. I touched it with my Presence and shared a little with her, and she gasped.
“Wh-what was th-that?” Hailey asked and opened her eyes.
“Just a little energy boost.”
“You... you can give me energy?” Hailey asked, surprised.
“I'm hoping to give you a lot more than that.” I said and put a hand on her forehead. “Close your eyes.”
“Are you going to put me to sleep?” Hailey asked and closed her eyes.
“No, you need to be awake for this.” I said and covered her body in a thin layer of Presence, then lifted her slightly.
“I can't feel the bed!” Hailey said.
“That's normal.” I said and slipped one of the diagnostic spell engravings under her. I didn't really need it, since I knew what was wrong with her; but, I was told that if I ever had to use these spell engravings, they had to be done in order or they wouldn't work properly. I didn't question it and filled the wooden engraving with Presence and activated the spell.
Hailey was covered in a bright green glow for a few seconds and then it faded. My mind was immediately filled with everything that was wrong with her body and my heart shivered at the sheer scope of the damage. I took a breath and used a mental technique to stay calm.
She must be keeping herself alive by sheer will. I thought and once again looked at her Presence center. That might by why its so depleted. She's been using it up to try to heal herself without knowing she is!
The wooden placard dissolved and I slid in the next one underneath her.
“This will hurt, so I'm going to make a connection to you and I'll suck as much of the pain out of you as I can.” I said and kept my hand on her forehead.
“Will I feel the connection?” Hailey asked, hope in her voice.
“Do you want to?” I asked and she nodded several times. I touched her mind with Presence and formed a connection with her, and she took in a sharp breath.
“You were hurt so bad!” Hailey said and her eyes teared up. “Did... did you get them back?”
“Not yet.” I said, surprised that she had grabbed those images from my mind. “I will, though. I just have a few things to do first.”
Hailey relaxed and her thoughts of utter trust and faith in me were hard to ignore. I took another deep breath and activated the next spell. It was a cleansing spell and it really was going to hurt.
“AHHhhhh...” Hailey started to yell, then it trailed off as I took her pain. Her breathing was even and she wasn't panicking like I thought she might.
You are a strong little girl. I thought as her pain barely registered on my own pain scale.
“Did you say something?” Hailey asked.
“Not out loud. I was just thinking really hard.” I said and she giggled.
It took nearly ten minutes for the spell to run its course and her whole body relaxed when it was over. The placard dissolved and I slid in the last one.
“This isn't going to hurt; but, it's going to feel really weird.” I said.
“Like jellyfish weird?” Hailey asked, and I chuckled.
“Yes, like jellyfish under your skin weird.”
Hailey shivered and then she sighed. “Okay. I'm ready.”
“I can't take the feeling from you, because then it might not work right.” I warned her. “I can keep you calm if you want.”
“Yes, please.” Hailey said and I used my calm technique and filled her with it. I activated the last spell and the entire inside of the protective barrier glowed green. It was the same spell I had used on myself to repair and regrow everything I had lost. I had tried several times to get the intricacies of the spell explained to me, and all they could say was that they couldn't explain it.
Hailey laid there and didn't say anything as the 'jellyfish' under her skin started to move around, so I stood there and waited... and waited... and waited some more. I kept the spell charged with Presence as it worked on her and the people around the barrier were becoming more frantic as the time went on. I shared my calming technique with them and they settled down a little.
An hour passed and I kept my eyes on the 'jellyfish' as they moved around under her skin. What was actually going on was that the spell was regrowing her body's essential components. Since there was almost nothing left, it was going to take a while to give it all back to her. At least, I hoped it gave it all back to her. I've only used it on myself and I've had extensive Presence use my entire life, so this was all new territory for me.
Please work. Please work. I thought and started to add my own Presence to her body and boosted the spell. Hailey took in a sharp breath as her body soaked up my Presence like a sponge. With no idea how long the spell was going to take, I increased my inherent absorption rate of the ambient Presence in the air, converted it for my own use, then funnelled it right into Hailey. The glow became brighter and the 'jellyfish' under her skin moved faster and faster.
I relaxed as I watched her bones became stronger and the marrow inside became rich with nutrients and Presence. Her muscles and fatty tissue bubbled out to their proper size and reformed under the skin and attached themselves. Her internal organs inflated to normal sizes and her belly plumped out and was no longer sunk in. Her breathing became deep and resonating as her lungs became healthy, and then I had to look at her face so I wasn't staring at her chest.
Hailey giggled as if she heard my thoughts and she opened her eyes to look at me. The dull blue color became vibrant as her eyes slid forward slightly and were no longer sunken in. Her cheeks regained their fullness and their color, instead of the greyish pallor they used to have. Her lips plumped out and turned a nice shade of reddish pink to show that she was healthy once more. She had a huge smile on her face as the spell ended.
I cleared away the dust from the three spells and put it into my pocket, then I gently lowered her back to the bed and dismissed the Presence I had held her with as well as the barrier around the bed. The other kids had lost interest and were doing their own things and the medical professionals had gathered around the barrier to wait. As soon as it dropped, the senior medical professional darted to Hailey's bedside.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“How do you feel?” The middle-aged man asked her and started to examine her.
“I don't know.” Hailey said. “I've never felt this way before.”
I blinked my eyes at her. “But... I thought...”
“I've always been sick.” Hailey said and raised the bed so she could sit up. She tried to lift her hand to touch my face and she struggled.
“You're going to be weak and sore for about five to seven days, if not longer.” I said and took her hand and placed it on my cheek. “You're probably going to sleep for a good amount of that, too.”
“I can't believe this.” The man said as his fingers deftly checked her legs and then her arms. “It's like she's never been sick!”
“Except for my hair.” Hailey said and I bent down to let her rub the top of my head. “It's still like Hunter's.”
“We need to take her for..”
“No.” I said with finality and the man stared at me as I stood up straight. “You will let this beautiful girl stay in bed and rest. She needs to recover from the trauma she just went through. Believe me, it was traumatic and she needs to be looked after.”
“But... we need...”
“If she was cured, would performing all those tests immediately instead of waiting a few days make any difference?” I asked and he couldn't respond. I turned to the medical assistant. “She's starving, so could you get her something to eat? Something easily digestible would be ideal.”
A loud grumble came from the bed and everyone turned and looked at Hailey.
“That was me!” Hailey said happily and hugged her stomach. “My tummy spoke!”
“Hailey?” One of the female technicians stepped around the senior technician. “Can I check your breathing and heart rate?” She asked and took out a stethoscope.
“Okay.” Hailey leaned forward and untied her hospital gown. When she leaned back, she gasped. “I have boobies!” She exclaimed when she saw the small mounds and started crying loudly with tears of joy. “Hunter healed me and gave me BOOBIES!”
I clamped my mouth shut as I turned away from the bed and I fought not to laugh. I saw similar looks on everyone's faces as they tried to keep their laughter in, too. I didn't have the heart to tell her that she would have developed them normally if she hadn't been so sick, so I stood there and waited for a minute to let the technicians finish her preliminary examination before I spoke.
“Hailey, I need to visit the others kids.”
“Don't be long.” Hailey said, her voice full of confidence. “You didn't visit with me yet.”
I opened my mouth to argue that I just spent almost two hours with her, then I turned to her and saw that she had a huge smile on her face. “I'll be as quick as I can.”
Hailey nodded and I walked down the ward and stopped at the first child's bed. I started to talk to them and ask why they were there. I used Presence and checked them over and used Presence Heal on them. The boy had a congenital heart defect and it was really odd trying to heal something that was always a part of their body. I had to compare it to my own heart to 'fix' the damage that the body didn't know was damage.
It took about seven minutes while the little boy talked about watching me on the news, then talked about the cat he had seen through the window, then talked about the pretty medical technician that always visited him. In seven minutes. I chuckled and told him to get better soon, then went to the next bed. It was almost the same thing, except it was a twisted spine. Each child had something inherently wrong with them.
As I made the rounds and did what I could with each of them, Hailey's eyes followed me as she was discreetly checked over. I had left the connection between us and she knew I was going around and trying my best to help each child while I talked to them. I didn't know how much she was getting from me, though. All I knew was that her Presence was back in full force and she was very happy about not being sick anymore. Oh, and about her boobies. She really really loved having boobies.
Her thoughts and emotions carried me through checking each child in the ward and I helped everyone that I could. Thankfully, none of them needed the same extensive work that Hailey required and after an hour, I made my way back over to her bedside. The senior medical technician waved the portable scanner away when he saw me coming.
“So, did it make a difference?” I asked him and he sighed.
“No. The results come up normal. She has no trace of it in her system.” He said sadly. “We won't be able to come up with a cure for it by using her blood as a catalyst.”
“Now you know why I told the ones at the other medical facility that I couldn't tell them what I did to heal myself.” I said. “You can't reproduce it.”
“Can you do this again?” He asked and waved at Hailey.
“Before the explosion? I could have done it sixty times.” I said and everyone in the room caught their breath. “Now? I can only do it just over half that.”
“You need it for yourself.” Hailey said in understanding. “Because of all the dangers you face!”
I reached out and rubbed my hand over her head and she almost purred as I did. “That's right, sweetie.” I said. “If I had more resources at the time, I would have gotten a lot more than what I actually have.”
“But... now you...”
“It's all right. It was worth it.” I said. “Now I know if I'm careful and take my time, I can use it for other people when it's necessary.”
Hailey took in a sharp breath. “Will... will it really work like that?”
“There's a really good chance of it now, thanks to you and how brave you were.”
“H-Hunter...”
“You didn't complain or even say no in the middle of it all, which makes you a lot stronger than most people.” I said and stopped rubbing her head. We both felt disappointment and I formed a solid Presence box and sat on it and took her hand. “So, what do you want to talk about?” I asked. “For some reason, my visit has run way over what it was supposed to.”
Hailey giggled and gripped my hand and started to ramble about the random things that young girls thought about. She would slip in the occasional comment about seeing me on the vidscreen and then she told me her fondest wish, after being healed, was to do the fly dancing.
“Do you know how to dance?” I asked.
Hailey blushed a little. “N-no, I...”
“It's all right. I'll teach you a few steps.” I said and stood.
“Wh-what?” Hailey looked at our clasped hands. “I... I'm too tired to...”
I shared some Presence with her and gave her more energy. “You just need to hold on and I'll do all the work.”
Hailey looked at the medical technicians and they gave her happy smiles and nodded. “Okay.”
“Just give me a minute to change.” I said and let her hand go, walked to the aisle, then covered myself in a Presence barrier. I quickly changed into a shirt and pants and absorbed the barrier. “Now it's your turn.” I said and took out a fancy dress.
Hailey's eyes watered at the sight of the frilly blue cloth and two of the women came over. I covered them in Presence as they helped her change and put it on. When they were done, I absorbed the barrier and reached a hand out to her.
“My lady, may I have this dance?”
“Y-yes.” Hailey said, her face bright red. She took my hand and I covered her in a thin layer of Presence and used levitation as I lifted her from the bed and she acted like she was already weightless. She stared at me with wide eyes and I floated her to the aisle. I used Presence to turn on the screen at the side of the room and quickly flicked through the channels until I found a program with slow background music. I filtered out the talking and enhanced the music, then used levitation on myself and we floated up several feet as everyone sat down.
I pulled her close and put an arm around her waist and kept a hold of her hand in a classic waltz pose. “Now, we step to the side, do a little part twirl, take another step and another quarter turn, and on and on.” I said and demonstrated. “It's much easier to do on a floor, so I'll lead while we float, okay?”
“O-o-okay!” Hailey's eyes were almost bulging out of her head and her face burned as she looked at everyone's happy and envious faces.
“Eyes up here, please.” I said and her head snapped up and she stared into my eyes. I smiled as I felt her embarrassment. “You don't have to be embarrassed, even if this is your first time doing this.”
“O-okay.” Hailey said and I gave her a warm smile and we started to dance over everyone's heads. She would occasionally look down at the other children and then remember to keep looking at me and she would blush and look back at my face.
“Go, Hailey!” One of the kids exclaimed and she blushed harder.
“Shall we show off a little?” I asked and she didn't respond verbally. I smiled at her thoughts and eased my hand away from her waist and pushed her slightly away, then twirled her around. I used Presence to hold her dress, so that she wasn't flashing the people below, then I pulled her back in close for a hug and she let out the cutest giggle I had ever heard. I swayed us around for several minutes, adding in another twirl and a few different steps, then the music faded.
I pulled her in for one last hug, then floated us over to her bed and gently laid her down on it. “Thank you very much for the dance, my lady.”
“Y-you're w-welcome.” Hailey said and looked down at the dress.
“Please keep it to remember me by.” I said and she and two of the women gasped. They knew how expensive something like that was.
“I... I won't need it... to remember you.” Hailey said and her blush came back.
“You're so sweet.” I said and leaned down to give her cheek a kiss. “Thank you.”
Hailey's face turned bright red and she lowered her eyes. “H-Hunter, you...”
“Yes?”
“That... it was nice, but...” Hailey looked back at my face. “That's not... how people are supposed to...”
I waited and wondered if she would actually say it out loud.
“...kiss.” Hailey said and her blush deepened.
“You want me to take your first kiss, too?” I asked and Hailey nodded several times and her blush didn't fade in the least. I glanced at the people around us and most of them shrugged, while one of the women desperately wished that she was the one in the bed about to be kissed.
I turned back to her and briefly touched the side of her face, then I leaned in close. She closed her eyes and puckered her lips a little, which made her that much cuter, so I carefully pressed my lips to hers. Her hands reached up and gripped my neck and held me there for several seconds. I had intended for it to only be a brief kiss and she made sure that it wasn't. One of her hands even reached up and rubbed the back of my head.
Hailey let me go and her thoughts were thanking me over and over for giving her the best first kiss she ever had. I broke the kiss and held in my chuckle at the thought of her having more than one first kiss to compare it to.
“W-well, that...” The senior medical technician wasn't sure what to say now and that made me chuckle.
“I'd say that was the perfect way to end my surprise visit.” I said and Hailey nodded agreement. “Which means I need to leave.” I took Hailey's hand and kissed it. “It was really nice meeting you.”
Hailey had way too many thoughts and fantasies going through her head for me to make any sense out of them, so I let her hand go and walked into the aisle, then across the room. I stopped by the door and turned back to her to give her a smile and a wave, then I left.
