The Hunt
Prolouge

Prolouge

A middle-aged man paced across a corridor in a hospital, he seemed very anxious and could not seem to sit still as if there were pins under his seat. It was a rare occurrence for humans with a hunter's lineage to beget progeny, even rarer was the birth of children between two hunters, the hunters were a declining existence. Even though they had managed to secure a place for themselves in modern society as a special branch of the various security forces, their birth rate was too low and their lifespan was too short, hence, every successful childbirth was celebrated by the hunter community- he mused. His internal monologue was forcibly ended by a man in a White coat who was the doctor who was monitoring the patient in the ward that the man had been supposedly patrolling.

"She's fine, and congratulations you got twice the happiness in one package, you have twins to take care of from now on" he said as he smiled. The doctor then gave him his assent to go see his wife.

The man entered the room to find two very similar babes lying in a cradle to the side, and his visibly exhausted, yet beaming wife lying on the sole bed in the room, the room smelt of disinfectant with faint traces of sweat and blood.

The first sentence that came from his wife's mouth after his painful vigil was -" now we can each teach one all of our skills".

The man could only smile wryly and didn't say anything else and just embraced her, he didn't want to make the choices for his children, they were still babies, once they grew older maybe they would understand, but he didn't want to force his choice upon them.

He just said, " We might be willing to teach them but only they can decide whether they wish to learn".
