Chapter 7

Gordon didn't come to Sharon's wedding; his heart had been hurt enough that he didn't need any more, even though his friend Lukas kept taunting him as a coward. Gordon didn't budge from his decision. The only thing that made him feel a little bad about not coming was just because of Mr. Antem has helped him a lot these days but he was sure that Mr. Antem would understands why Gordon couldn't come to his son's wedding. After all, everyone in the village knows that Gordon was not a coward; he was fighting with his life on the line to save Sharon, who among the young men in the village can say that they had did something like he did for her, even Markus has never done anything as great as Gordon.

He was sure that Lukas was just jealous of him; they both were friends who liked Sharon and didn't dare to approach her, every day what they did was milk the goats on Mr. Samuel's farm while talking about girls, of course they were very careful not to be overheard by Bertha.

After coming home from work, they usually sit first on the hill near the farm, discussing which of them knows better about the girls in the village, who will get married first and who was braver to talk to Sharon. Of course they were just talking, Gordon and Lukas were timid young men, all they could do every day was dream of doing this or that if they could and every day they went home with unfulfilled dreams. They were basically a standart loser. The next day they would repeat it again and again, until one day when Gordon got home he founded his mother lying sick in her bed, she looked so old and weak that it made Gordon's heart hurt to see her like that.

After that the idea of joining the hunter guild to get more money popped into his head and no matter how hard he tried to throw it away the idea remained in his mind, like a tree seed, the idea kept growing in his mind, getting bigger and bigger until one day he accidentally saw Sharon who was completely naked behind Bertha's house in Mr. Samuel's farm.

That day Lukas did not come in because of illness so that Gordon's task of milking the goat was double, it was already evening and Bertha had warned Gordon that he could not go home before he finished his assignment and Lukas's, and to made sure Gordon came home only after all the work had been done Bertha told him to report back to her house before he left. Gordon knew that Bertha usually relaxed behind her house after work, that's why Gordon headed straight to the back of the Bertha's house, the backyard of the Bertha work home was not large, only about 7x7 meters with a wooden fence surrounding it, Gordon was sure Bertha was lying on her lounge chair while drinking lemon or mango juice as usual. Because of that he just went in there without knocking the door first, but what he found there was Sharon, standing with her back to Gordon without a single cloth covering her.

By the God who created the sky, Gordon had never seen anything as beautiful as Sharon's body in his life, her skin so flawless and her buttocks, Gordon's heart seemed to burst out of his chest as he stared at Sharon's so perfect, so beautiful ass. At that time, Gordon just stood there stiffly, looked at Sharon's perfect body and Sharon who felt someone was standing behind her turning towards Gordon without trying to cover her breasts or a small slit between her leg which made Gordon felt his life was out of his body for a while before finally coming back again. Maybe Sharon thought he was Bertha, so she seemed relaxed about showing her breasts that he was sure would fit perfectly into his hands if he held them.

They stood there stiffly for a while until Sharon woke up from her shock and immediately ran into Bertha's house. Gordon himself felt grateful that Bertha wasn't there at that time because he was sure she would gave him a super powered punch if she knew that Gordon had seen her sister's forbidden fruit. After Sharon gone into Bertha's house, Gordon ran as fast as he could, his heart racing and the seeds of ideas that had grown slowly in his mind began to take root and grow big. Gordon felt he had to have Sharon, such a beautiful body was worthy of striving and risking his life. That's why Lukas never understood why Gordon was so determined to join the hunter guild, he never saw the beauty of Sharon's body like Gordon's because of that he didn't understand that it takes a sacrifice to have a goodness as a wife.

Gordon felt grateful that Sharon didn't tell anyone about the incident because someone would killed him on any days if they knew about it and he liked to thought that it was a sign that she liked him and dared himself to ask her out on a date, she kept refusing for various reasons until the day before leaving for the forest Gordon caught Sharon and Mark kissing in the back old John's house. Even until now, he hasn't known why Sharon standing naked behind Bertha's house at that time and why Bertha was not there even though she told him to come there before going home.

it felt like it had happened years ago even though if he wasn't mistaken it only happened about two months ago. he was now a different man or at least that was what he wanted to believed, he was not sure himself. Maybe what Lukas said had a point, Gordon was a coward because he didn't dare come to Sharon's wedding even though he was invited, but honestly Gordon didn't care about it, whatever people said about him felt like trivial and not worthy of his attention.

He took a deep breath and really doesn't know what to do now, Mr. Sully said that he would become a baron but his mind found it difficult to believe his word, how could he be a Baron, would the King just give him tittle, castle and land, it sounded too much to Gordon and if he did became one the he would be the poorest baron ever.

Gordon has been staying at Mr. Sully's house for one week, and he began to felt bad for not doing anything to pay for his living and eating there, to be honest Gordon doesn't have any money now, all his savings have been used up for his daily needs, and until now his job as a hunter hasn't started yet.

After sitting and walked around the house for a while, Gordon couldn't stand being inside anymore so he decided to go out and take a walk.

****************************************

Gordon walked without a purpose, until his feet led him to the edge of the village by the road to the forest where it all started. This place used to be full of green trees, now this road looks like a giant had cut down all the trees and burnt them and he felt a little guilty that all this was the result of his fight, he had heard the story from Mr. Sully about this, that thousand of trees were burnt down to a radius of several kilometers but this was the first time he had seen it in person and it made him a little scared and wonder that he could did something like this. Even though when he think about it, what actually causes the trees to burn down was actually Tal's power of green sun though it cannot be denied that Gordon's ball of wind also had a big share of the damage in the forest. He just hoped that the damage did not affect the lives of the villagers.

After walked quit sometimes without meeting anyone Gordon realized a fact that almost everyone must be in the weeding after all this was village head's son wedding. In the whole village maybe he was the only one who did not attended and wandering like a drunkard yet somehow he felt liberated.

Now he was free. Wounded yet free, nothing held him back anymore. He had no one to care about. He could do whatever he wanted.

With a feeling of freedom in his heart gordon took a deep breath while grinning and concentrated on the castle at the back of his mind by slowly approaching it until his mind almost touched the castle, there was the faint sound of the screams of thousands of people in Gordon's mind, he was inhaling the strength of the castle slowly until he could feel the power spreading slowly through his body, he could feel it now more clearly than ever, the power of Autumn flowing in his blood. slowly, then spread throughout his body, giving strength to every part of his body. Gordon felt he was the most powerful person in the world. He must admit that this power really made him addicted, the feeling of great euphoria not to mention the freedom he felt when the Autumn flowed through his body was truly extraordinary. He could live with this feeling, so intoxicated.

He felt it, the wind that carresing his body like a loved one. The calling of power that made him felt like a god. He could seen it, the destiny. He was mean for a great things. Like heroes in the stories, he would be remembered in the annal of history. His legacy would endured anything the world could thrown at it, he would be invicible.

While he was drowning on an euforia of his power. A memory of his dead mother suddenly appeared in front of his mind, she looked so old and fragile. High pitched scream of a woman wake him up from his trans. He looked around frantically, still confused after the rush of power and tried to find the source of that painfull scream that he just heard but he could find nothing. Around him was quit road which he just walked before he called the Autumn then he realized that the scream must be came from the sacred tree and the sound of his heart beat that was so loud that he could heard it break the last rush of power in his mind, clear it like a dusted mirror in the rain. He wonder why his heart beating like he had run for miles or did a hard labor for days without rest though he didn't felt tired or sleepy even better he felt great, ready to fight the evil in the world.

Yet amidst the great feeling gordon can't help but felt scared. Deep down in his heart he felt that this wasn't him. He was a coward and always doubted himself. This confident person wasn't him, how could he so casually using power that coming with the scream of a thousand people. Sometimes they screamed of pain, sometimes of despair then unbridle joy, sad, madness and any other scream that he didn't known what to made of. How could he used it so easily, like an old friend he embrace this scary power then used it like he was a master.

There was a prize to paid for using this power just like what that person said in his castle back then. He said that his humanity would faded the more he used it. But this feeling of freedom and greatness was so amazing, regardless the consequence he loved it. Was it better if he just old Gordon, normal human with the same job and the same unfullfilled dream who ate his own feeling everyday or the new Gordon, who was confident, brave, powerfull and soon to be a noble.

He smiled. Of course the new him was so much better. He may changed but everybody changed, experience and age would changed anyone though that maybe a little bit different with him since his humanity that would changed, it would faded. He wasn't sure what that mean, was he became not human or what? A monster? Maybe still human but a little less emotional.

Whatever it was he could understand why all of his fear and doubt disappeared when the autum course through his vein, it was because fear and doubt were part of his humanity, it was a feeling that belonged to humans and every time Autum runs through his veins, it take some of it, slowly but surely all his feeling will be gone. It was a very high price for a power, but Gordon had no other choice, used or not this power was within him.

Gordon had thought not to use his strength again, but he was not sure it could be done because everyone already knew about this ability, even more so according to Mr. Sully King Yurin will make Gordon a baron as a reward because he has succeeded in killing Tal, if that really happens it will be even more difficult for Gordon not to use his power.

What should I do?

Gordon summoned the wind and flew into the sky, he went to the forest where he first awakened after gaining the power of Autumn, he felt that the place would be able to calm his chaotic heart, but after flying around for more than an hour he could not find the place.

I felt pretty sure the place with the little pond was around here.

Gordon continued his search again but he still could not find the place so he decided to land on the tallest tree there to rest for a while. Gordon's gaze fixed on the wide horizon, and took a deep breath of fresh air. The wind blew slowly caressing his face and hair, there was no other sound there but the wind and the rustling of leaves that felt like a song of longing and peace to Gordon's ears.

He had tought it again and came to a conclusion that he actually had no more reason to live in the village of Eston; his mother had died, Sharon was married and the truth was he had no interest in becoming a Baron. As far as he knows, being a noble can indeed get a lot of money, but their lives are full of problems and pressures, Gordon just wants to live happily, he always thinks that by marrying Sharon and having enough money so that his mother doesn't have to work anymore, his life will definitely be happy so he tried hard to made it happen but it was never mean to be. Now that Gordon was uncertain about his future, he simply didn't know what to do.

Standing here, on the tree alone gave him a new perspective, that all he needed to do to be happy was to find peace, and he knew that if he became a Baron there was no way he would be at ease. He therefore considered running away, getting as far away from the Eston village as possible, exploring the forest and mountains, completely free without any burden. He was sure that Mr. Sully would definitely be disappointed by his decision and the villagers would have mocked him with all kinds of words but was it all important?. Gordon did feel indebted to Mr. Sully but he did not have to sacrifice himself to return the favor to him, whereas to the villagers Gordon did not really care, he hardly ever spoke to anyone other than to Lukas and some of his other friends.

Yes, freedom and happiness

Gordon wanted to go away right away, but he felt that he still had to do one thing first, go over to his house. It was where he and his parents lived and spent time together, he couldn't just leave without locking the doors and windows of his house.

Gordon snorted at his own idea, an idiot idea. Why did he have to lock the doors and windows of his house when he himself had not been there for one week, what he knew was that maybe rats and cockroaches had filled his house at this time. However, Gordon felt it was very important, even though he thought it was a waste of time to do so his heart would not let go. So Gordon flew again to his house, and somehow dread filling his heart.

**********************************************

Gordon had arrived and landed in front of his house two hours ago, but all he did was stand there and stared at his house like a confused person, he actually wanted to finished this up and left but his two legs didn't want to move forward no matter what he did, he shouted loudly, he used the wind to push his body forward, he summoned Autumn and pump his body with the power to move his legs forward, he even touched the castle with his mind to summon a human scream from the Autumn but the shouts and cries of the thousands of humans simply couldn't shake the dread in his heart, his legs still didn't want to move forward.

Gordon even begged himself to get into his house immediately, lock the doors and windows and fly as far as possible from here, but it was all in vain, he simply can't go there. He didn't know what else to do, so he just stood there in the evening sun that was sinking more and more behind the horizon.

Gordon remembered that he usually got home from work at this time, with a tired body and hungry stomach he would go straight into his house and go to the dining table, his mother always prepared a meal at the dinner table for him, she never forgot even though being sick. His breath shuddered when he remembered it all, suddenly his feet stepped forward to his house, he wanted to saw what food his mother had prepared, he was sure the food was ready on the table because his mother never forgot, he wanted to ate with his mother.

When he got to the house, Gordon wondered why his mother didn't turn on the lantern, it was almost night, his mother was probably sick and was resting in the bedroom. Gordon immediately went to his mother's bedroom but when he arrived there was no one on his mother's bed, even his mother's ugly sheets which was the only sheets she has looked messy, strange, his mother always tidied his sheets. Gordon then went to the dining table, and saw there was nothing on the dining table but a piece of stale bread, he wondered where his mother was going, maybe his mother was away to borrow money from a neighbor, or maybe she was still working on the farm, sometimes she worked late into the night when she was chasing after planting or harvesting.

Gordon sat on a chair at the dining table, staring at a piece of stale bread. His thoughts flew back to the time a week ago when his mother told him to finish his piece of bread but he didn't want to because he was about to trained in the morning and according to the marcon morning training with a stomach full of food was not good. But of course he wasn't going to throw away that piece of bread and planned to finish it when he got home from Mr's office. Sully.

His breath shuddered, but Mr. Sully wasn't home at that time so Gordon decided to go to Mr. Antam's house, he wanted to ask about a job offer from him as a hunter, but he did not meet Mr. Antam because on the way he saw two suspicious strangers. They kidnapped Sharon, Gordon fights the two strangers, a lake of fire everywhere.

An image of his mother's stiff body flashed in his mind, wrapped in colorful cloth, he was there at that time, his mother's funeral. She would never come back, Gordon would never see her face again.

Tears rolled down Gordon's cheeks, he burst into tears.

"Mother ... .. I miss you" he said, sobbing.

All his memories with his mother flashed in his mind, he missed the time when he came home from work with a hungry stomach and his mother waited in front of the dining table then they ate together, they never had enough money for daily necessities but Gordon always felt happy when they ate together in the evening. Now everything will never be the same, now he was alone in this world.

Gordon sat there crying for a while until he felt the weight on his chest lessen a little. Then he took a deep breath and stood up to lock all the windows and doors, after which he stood in front of his house, taking one last look at his house.

He took a deep breath and called out the wind.

"Gordon!" Gordon winced when he heard Mr. Sully voice from behind. He turned around and was surprised to see Mr. Sully and Mr. Antam walked out of breath.

"Why are you both breathless, what happened?" Gordon asked the two of them.

"We ran around the village looking for you, luckily we managed to find you, otherwise I don't know what will happen" Mr. Antam said with a serious face.

"What's wrong?" Gordon still didn't understand.

"There are important guests from the capital, they want to meet you" Mr. Sully said.

Gordon's heart skipped a beat, he was afraid to met this visitor and considered flying and leaving them alone. But he could saw it in their expressions and eyes that they were expecting him to meet the guest soon and he felt bad about rejecting them, because they had helped him so much. Gordon ended up canceling his plans to left here for a while, he would followed what the two of them suggested until he found a chance to left.

"What should I do?" Gordon asked Mr. Sully

"You just need to introduce yourself politely and then keep quiet when not being asked, if they ask you have to answer honestly, remember Gordon answered honestly and keep quiet if not asked" Mr. Sully looks very serious which makes Gordon even more nervous.

"Okey sir" Gordon replied, swallowing hard because his throat suddenly felt dry. "How many people came?".

“Three people, Viscount Roland Brook, head of public affairs Mr. Addi Holmes, and Princess Jassime en dun Almarik "Mr. Antem said, he looks tensed. Gordon had never seen a village chief tensed up like this.

"Is Princess Jassime beautiful?" Gordon's question made the two of them look at each other with a confused expression.

"Yes, she's gorgeous Gordon, but remember not to talk unless they ask you." Mr. Sully said to Gordon, whose gaze began to wander.

"A princess like her must be very gentle and charming, her voice is melodious, good at singing and beautiful to look at" Gordon seems to start fantasizing things that were not true.

"No...Gordon" Mr. Antem said, he understands what Gordon's words mean. "Princess Jassime doesn't like to sing or have a sweet voice, she is a knight, a royal knight, fighting is her specialty, she is like more fierce version of Bertha, if you make Bertha angry she will punch your face then done, if you make princess Jassime angry she will cut your body in half then done."

Shit.
