Awakening(1)

The soft breeze of summer gently brushed against me, the blades of grass glistening with water from the mist, The sun was slowing rising up. The rays beautifully lighting up the sky. "Beautiful"- I couldn't help but mutter, as a person who've been trapped inside because of a deadly disease, I have never seen the sunrise, not even once. This was my pitiful life, Until I awakened my bloodline.

The sun rose again, but I am not even touched by the beauty anymore, travelling on the plains made me desensitized to it by now, I've seen it day by day, everyday, it was eventually getting monotonous, at some point I wasn't able to help but worry, 'Will this sight get tiring after a while?'. It was a foolish question, as everything will get boring and monotonous if you see it everyday, the plains were also terrible, the bugs everywhere biting me, the difficulty to set up a tent, and many more.

It made me wonder why I thought it would be a good idea to travel to the city of Harven while I could've taken a caravan, but I believe that this would serve as a pretty good training, and you can probably gain a bit of experience too.

Night eventually fell, I was able to set up a tent with a spirit ability. I was setting up cloth tents up until yesterday, but I quickly figured out that I can use a spirit ability for that and some other trivial tasks. I was quite proud of my little tent, although it looks more like a small hut now. The nights were quite boring, but it was safe so I couldn't complain either. After my first sleep, I figured I would try to slaught- *cough* *cough*, I meant hunt some innocent Rabves to get some money. I heard that the Rabv hides sell for quite a bit back in the capital.

The light from the 3 moons were lighting up the grasslands beautifully, and there was a clear plain without any fog tonight, which is very rare as it was a winter night. A rabbit like creature with horns, with a black-striped pattern on grey fur, namely, a Rabv.

It was peacefully eating a blade of grass, it had seen a funny medium-sized 2-legged creature make a small cave but it wasn't particularly concerned about it as it had seen many other humans do the same too, although the cave that the creature set up was rather peculiar, it was not interested as it wouldn't help in getting food after all. Suddenly it heard a ruffle in the grass around him, it raised its head, looked around and as it didn't see anything different, it decided to continue eating and salvaging around for food. That was a mistake however, and one that would cost its life.

*Kacha!* A rather loud noise rang, and in an instant, the Rabv's head was pierced by a bullet-shaped rock. The bullet ricocheted inside the skull for a few seconds, and the Rabv finally fell to the group. *Ruffle* *Ruffle* A human came out of the waist-high grass, It was a rather attractive young man with blonde hair reaching a bit over his shoulders, golden eyes filled with disappointment staring at the corpse of the now dead Rabv, "That was anti-climatic"- he muttered, "I thought they were supposed to fight back, but the rabbit died it one shot..."- he continued.

He quickly picked up the dead Rabv turned around to his little hut, he went back into it. He cuddled up in his blanket, before going into his second sleep, He thought -'Maybe it's because I shot its head that it died instantly... well, whatever, I'm still alive' . After that, he eventually drifted into deep sleep while pondering about the meanings of existence.

It was around 5 am, the temperature was rather cold and moist but with a blanket, it would be just right for a cozy nap, but then suddenly *ROAR!* *ROAR!*, two simultaneous loud roars snapped my eyes open. I didn't know why but I felt that if I were to stay in here any longer, my life would be in danger. So I quickly jumped out of my sleeping bag, and made a small hole in my 'tent', and jumped out of it. I looked back, and I saw a lion-like creature with a fiery mane, with small spikes on it's spine and a sharp tail that contains deadly poison, A Rakmar.

It was a creature known for it's tenacity and dedication in hunting, normally it would hunt big animals like Grazels and Bunflons but when they're hungry they also hunt small animals like Rabves, but normally they should not be in the plains, but one of them has crushed my hut, my beautiful hut. After destroying it, the bastard looked at me, so I ran. I ran and chanted in my mind 'Earth Pillar!' and a pillar rose from the ground and I jumped on it.

As the Rakmar reached the pillar that I made, it raised it's head and stared straight into my eyes. It jumped to reach me, but fortunately the pillar was tall enough to stop the Rakmar from reaching me. It stared into my eyes again, I hoped that the guy will not try to climb the pillar, but the next second it started doing that.

I realized that it was too late for me, I closed my eyes and thought about what I did in my short life, the things that I was doing... was to lay in bed, get sick, be a dead-weight useless guy to my family... I don't want this, I want to properly take care of my family, contribute a bit to the community that the gods made, I even awakened the bloodline of the Harezlynger family, which was a family that was blessed- no made by The God Harezlynger, and I'm going to let them down like that?

No, I couldn't afford to die, I was the 4th one that awakened the bloodline in the last thousand years after that event happened. So I should- no, must survive and not let my family down. I resolved myself, and opened my eyes, that bastard was half-way through climbing. I looked at it and decided to use the spell, 'Earth Spike'.

It was a simple spell, as it's name implied it was a spell that made a spike using Earth, I carefully aimed the place where the spike would come out, 'Earth Spike!' I chanted in my mind, and the spike plunged on the side of the pillar that the Rakmar was climbing.

The bastard seems to have realized that I was using a spell, so it slowly climbed down. I was going to use the spell again, but I realized that I could use it when that bastard jumps back on the ground, so I waited patiently.

It reached the lower parts of the pillar, and it looked down for any obstacles, it saw nothing so it jumped down. Now was the perfect time, and I wasn't going to waste it. 'Earth Spike!' I chanted in my mind and from the spot that the Rakmar was going to land, a spike rose. It seemed to have realized it's impending doom, and despair was showing on it's face.

The Rakmar hit the spike and it directly pierced it's heart, and it convulsed and tried to move everywhere, and it had no effect rather than making it look like an idiot wiggling in fear, it finally stopped moving after a while. I threw a rock at it just to make sure that it was not alive anymore, I missed. I threw another one, it hit but the Rakmar did not move.

I decided that it was safe to go back down now, I made a small staircase using the pillars, and I went down on the opposite side because the Rakmar could still be alive. I reached back on the ground, and looked proudly at the Rakmar that I killed, although it might not be very strong but it was impossible for a normal person to kill one.

I slowly went near the Rakmar, and I got really close, but it was still at a safe distance. I looked at it closely, and it didn't show any signs of life anymore, although it might not be alive anymore, I had to make sure. So I decided to make a spear and pierce it through its brain. "Haa.." I sighed in relief and began to butcher to corpse.

As I was butchering the corpse, I felt a looming sense of danger. I looked around, and wasn't able to see anything but the grass and I saw grass in an area move, so I prepared my spear, and went to look at it. There was nothing, so I went back to butchering the corpse. I suddenly felt something painful bubbling up in my stomach, and I felt the urge to cough.I

swiftly covered my mouth with my hand to cough as I didn't want bacteria to spread on the food, before I went back to butchering, I saw something in my hand, and it was blood. The blood was not the murky black one that the Rakmars have, but a bright red one. I remembered that my bloodline was just suppressing my illness, and didn't cure it.

As realization dawned on me, a rather large shadow loomed over me. I looked above, it was a Rakmar,

'Hah.. I forgot they hunted in packs, it seems that this is my end now'- I sighed, My bloodline was using mana to suppress my illness so I couldn't fight back either. I gave up, and closed my eyes.

* * *

I woke up. It was 5am, it felt like deja vu. I was sweating heavily, and it was also cold outside. If I caught a cold, well, it wouldn't matter since my bloodline will cure it if I had enough mana, and although it had been using up mana to suppress my illness but my passive mana recovery was enough to compensate for it. The reason my usable mana recovery rate was slow was because of this too. About the Rabv that I was going to butcher, I had a 8 meter cube storage where items won't deteriorate for a week so I didn't have to worry about that. I quickly got up, and changed my clothes as I didn't want to be catching a cold as it would use up mana.

I thought that it would be a good idea to check my status once in a while, so I muttered- "Status Book" under my breath. When I said that, a book with the name "Van Harezlynger" appeared out of thin air, these kind of system was made by the gods, and the type was determined by His Majesty, Harezlynger. Legend says that one of the gods said "Wow, Gothic huh? As expected", Although the experts still aren't able to figure out what it means yet. Unrelated story aside, this was my status.

That was all that was on the first page, the insults slightly hurt but it was true so there was nothing I could do about it for now. On the second page, there was my life story but it was nothing interesting after all. I was a bit concerned about the nightmare that I had so I decided to pray once in a while, I took out a statue of Harezlynger and prayed. The statue lit up with a faint blue light and there was silence once again, the blue light meant that he was asleep, so I helplessly chuckled. When the Verka Epoch ended, most of the gods disappeared, and currently the only ones left are Harezlynger, Theophania and... no one else. There were only 2 gods left now, and they spend most of their time sleeping in their temples.

I looked at the sky and helplessly sighed. After a while, I stopped uselessly thinking about stuff and looked at the path that I have to travel to get to Harven. I sighed again, and I strolled down the path to the city while reminiscing about the fun times I had before awakening the bloodline.
