2.The Charismatic Charlatan's "Holy" Show

"Hold your horses, let the holy water do its thing," said Luo Wenkai with a mischievous grin.

“Enough! You shameless fraud! How dare you mock the Lawrence family? Guards, arrest him!” shouted Vera, her fury boiling over. Yet before her command could fully leave her lips, a shrill scream erupted from nearby.

“Aaaah! Damn holy water!”

A small figure clawed its way out of the shadows beneath Lord Lawrence’s feet, trailing wisps of smoke as it floated into the air. The figure had curled ram horns, leathery bat wings, and a slender tail that swayed menacingly. Despite her petite frame, she exuded an aura of deadly seduction.

“A demon! There really is a demon! Run for your lives!” The townsfolk scattered in terror, while the guards raised their weapons, their faces pale with fright. Lord Lawrence trembled visibly, and even Vera found herself frozen in shock.

“There’s actually… a demon?” she muttered, disbelief clouding her tone.

Amidst the mounting panic, Luo Wenkai strode confidently to the forefront.

“Calm down, everyone! It’s just a lowly demon—hardly worth worrying about! With the blessing of the Holy Light, I’ll handle this pest myself!”

Hovering midair, the demon snarled and bared her fangs. “Pathetic tin can! How dare you interfere with my plans? I’ll tear you to shreds!”

“Big words for someone so small,” Luo Wenkai taunted as he struck a gallant pose. His body radiated pure, untainted holy light, casting away the night’s gloom. The warmth of the light soothed the frightened crowd while sending the demon recoiling in disgust.

“By the sacred light of the Holy Dragon, begone, foul creature!” Luo Wenkai invoked, his staff raised high. The campfire flared brighter as the demon let out an ear-piercing screech. But just as Luo Wenkai swung his staff to strike, the demon coiled her tail like a whip and lashed out at his chest. Luo Wenkai stumbled, nearly tripping over a toppled barrel.

“Stay calm! Nobody panic!” he barked, steadying himself. With a deft motion, he conjured a barrier of blinding white light, shielding the frightened crowd.

The demon, however, broke free from the holy light’s restraints, her shadowy form diving toward a paralyzed guard. Without hesitation, Luo Wenkai hurled the pouch of holy water, striking the demon square on the forehead. A brilliant burst of light erupted as the demon shrieked.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“Return to your prison, Holy Light Dragon!” he commanded. A massive spectral dragon of light emerged, roaring as it sealed the demon within a cage of divine energy. The radiant dragon’s breath struck like a hammer, slamming the demon to the ground.

Grabbing the emptied holy water pouch, Luo Wenkai shouted dramatically, “Seal!”

“Nooo! I’m not done yet!” wailed the demon as her form dissolved into violet smoke, sucked into the pouch like an ill-fated genie. The entire process flowed seamlessly, as though rehearsed to perfection.

“Praise the Holy Light! Praise the Holy Light!” cried the crowd. No one dared question Luo Wenkai’s legitimacy anymore. The townsfolk knelt en masse, their voices filled with awe and reverence for the goddess they believed had sent him to save them.

“Esteemed Holy Knight! Your valor is unparalleled. Thank you for delivering us from evil,” one villager exclaimed.

Luo Wenkai raised a hand solemnly. “Do not let your guard down yet! Though the demon is subdued, her malevolence lingers. If left unchecked, it could bring plagues, curses, or even worse calamities to this land!”

The villagers gasped in horror. “Then what can we do, Holy Knight? Please, save us!”

With a sympathetic expression, Luo Wenkai sighed. “As a loyal servant of the Holy Light, I cannot abandon you in your time of need. However, the only solution is… vast quantities of holy water!”

Turning dramatically to the side, Luo Wenkai announced, “Now, where can one obtain holy water?”

He immediately pivoted back with a gleaming smile. “Good question! You’re in luck! Today, I will personally craft holy water for everyone here!”

He struck a salesman’s pose, pitching with unbridled enthusiasm. “Scared of demonic corruption? Afraid of curses? Tired of being plagued by sickness? One bottle of holy water solves all your problems! Just 98 copper coins! A once-in-a-lifetime deal for peace of mind! Don’t wait—grab your bottles now!”

The crowd froze in stunned silence. Then, one by one, they scrambled to fetch containers, including the guards tasked with maintaining order. Watching the chaos unfold, Luo Wenkai smirked subtly, his true intentions hidden behind a veil of holy light.

From a distance, Vera stared at him in a daze. The man before her was the antithesis of her idealized image of a noble Holy Knight. Everything about him—his demeanor, his actions—was nothing short of blasphemous. Yet, the radiance of his holy light and the genuine purity of his badge were undeniable.

A sudden flutter of wings interrupted her thoughts as a raven landed on the shoulder of her mentor, the black-robed mage Havel. The bird dropped a copper tube into his hand, which he opened to extract a scroll. Havel’s expression darkened as he read.

“What is it, teacher?” Vera asked cautiously.

Havel passed her the scroll. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she read the words etched in black ink: “Wanted by the Tribunal: Luo Wenkai. Threat Level: Cataclysm.”

Havel’s gaze hardened as he declared, “No matter what, we cannot let him escape.”
