Volume 2 Chapter 2: Part 3: Advent City
The woman sitting at the counter has amethyst hair going towards her shoulders. Slight droopy pink ruby eyes make her mysterious. She gave off a mature vibe compared to the other receptionists.
"Hello. I would like to register as an adventurer." Onyx greets the woman.
"Huh?" The first response Onyx gets is a look of surprise from the woman. Her expression turns blank, not expecting someone would come over here.
"Can you not do it? Or do I have to register at another counter instead?" Onyx scratches his head. With no adventurer lined up, maybe this isn't the line to register.
But the woman quickly shakes her head,
"No, you can register here." Madelyn's expression turns bright as she continues,
"Is this your first time here in Advent City?" Onyx nods his head,
"My name is Madelyn Keeley. Since this is your first time in Advent City, there are extra procedures you have to do to become an adventurer." Madelyn then takes out an orb,
"Please tell me your name and age. In addition, please say that you haven't killed any innocent people before or done any theft."
Ahh. That's a lie detection orb. Onyx remembers this magical item. It was used when he was getting his skills.
"Understood." Onyx nods. As he's about to do this,
"Madelyn, how can you treat this guy like a welcomed guest?!" A mocking voice screams out.
Onyx turns around to see a bear-like man. His body is even larger than Barrett's. Muscles bulged out from all parts of his body. He isn't hiding it as well, as he's only wearing a vest.
Madelyn's face turns sour hearing his words, "It doesn't matter how I treat him, Slug. I'm an advisor. I'm here to help." It's her duty to help new adventurers.
"Then why don't you help out my captain and us? We've always gone to you, but you string us along!" Slug says as he points at the handsome man sitting at a table.
"It's because you're nothing more than a bunch of bullies. You made all the adventurers who came my way back away! You've even threatened them as well!"
Madelyn knew what was going on behind the scenes. Slug's captain is pursuing her. Even when she rejected him, he still chased after her. He would do anything to make it happen.
That even meant forcing other adventurers to back away from her counter.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Madelyn. We just suggested that they should talk to other receptionists." That was what they did. And if they didn't listen, they would give them a more "direct" approach.
"You!" Madelyn looks like she's about to explode.
"Excuse me, can you check whether or not this works?" Hearing Onyx's voice, she quickly turns back to him. She lightly bows, "I'm sorry about that. Please put your hand onto the orb and recite what I said."
"Alright. Also, is the guild master here today?"
"Hmm?" Madelyn's expression changes, "Why do you need to find the guild master?" The guild master is the one who controls the entire guild in Advent City. He's the one who has the most say in this city.
"My teacher told me to register as an adventurer. And to ask for the guild master when I arrive." Those are the instructions he got in the letter.
"You want to meet with the guild master? A shady guy like you should know where your place is!" Slug laughs at him. Who is the guild master?
He's the head honcho of Advent City and the strongest adventurer in the entire guild! So how can this guy have the authority to call for the guild master?
"Can you call him? It's something important." Ignoring what Slug said, Onyx continues to ask Madelyn.
"...I understand." Madelyn nods. She's a little wary of Onyx. But it's only calling the guild master. And from his tone, the cloaked figure seems serious.
There shouldn't be any problems as the guild master will decide.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
But Slug screams out,
"Don't do that! Who knows if he's here to kill the guild master!" The moment Slug screams this out, the whole guildhall turns silent.
"Slug, you're looking for a fight, aren't you?!" Stewart can't stand it anymore. He's ready for a brawl now. No way he's going to stand for people calling his savior a murderer.
Especially not from this muscle brain over there.
Etta and the rest are of the same thought too. They stare menacingly at Slug. One more word out from Slug; they might've jumped at him. Lucia didn't need to glare. She already took out her daggers, ready to cut him into chunks!
Slug backs away a bit. The killing intent is intense. He didn't expect Scarlet Lynx would be this adamant about protecting Onyx. But he isn't going to back down from it,
"Just look at him! Anybody can tell he's a sketchy person." That is true. Onyx's covering his face. And the cloak doesn't help at all. It's dirty up, blood stained all over it.
"He is kinda right."
"The guy does look like a criminal."
"Is that human blood?"
"Slug, don't throw out an accusation without any evidence!" Madelyn shouts out. She couldn't stand it. How can she let Onyx be humiliated like this?
"Hah." Onyx sighs, "Does this work then?" Hearing the discontent from the people around, Onyx takes off his hood. It'll be annoying. But it's something he has to do to shut them up.
And it did.
The moment Onyx took off the hood, the hall turned silent from shock. They just stare at Onyx's face.
It's a perfect face. Amber yellow eyes, shining brightly like jewels. Navy blue hair that reminds people of the deep sea.
It's too flawless.
"F*ck!" Reynold's the first person to say it. He couldn't hold it in any longer. Handsome. Those are the only words in his mind as he stares at Onyx.
Like there's nothing else he can say about him. He beat him in terms of looks, hands down. Not just him. All the other guys felt some sort of inferiority when staring at his face.
On the other hand, the female adventurers,
"So hot."
"I think I might be blind from what I'm seeing."
"Is that an angel in front of me? How can this be possible? Angels shouldn't exist. Yet there's one in front of me."
"Do you see his gaze? I might be pregnant from it!"
Hearing all the girl's comments about him, Onyx sighs. I knew this would happen. That's why he didn't want people to see his face. He wanted to be more discreet.
Discreet!!!
Not have everybody ogle at him like some kind of fresh meat. Oh well.
Seeing everybody shut up about him being a criminal, Onyx turns back to Madelyn, "I'm not a criminal, and I haven't done anything wrong. Everything will clear up once the guild master meets me."
"..." Madelyn stays silent as she stares at Onyx with a blank expression.
Onyx frowns, "Hello?" His voice goes a tone down as he asks again,
"Ahh." Realizing what happened, Madelyn's face turns red from embarrassment.
"Can you ask the guild master to come over or not?"
"Don't worry. I'll go get the guild master now." Madelyn quickly gets up from her seat and dashes upstairs.
"..." Onyx just sighs as he watches her run up the stairs. Fast. He realizes she's moving very quickly.
"Hey! What did you do to Madelyn?!" Slug screams at Onyx.
"What do you mean?" Onyx doesn't even look at him as he asks. But that pissed him off even more.
"Don't you dare talk down to me!" Slug grabs Onyx's collar. Onyx was looking down on him. That's what he got from his action.
"Hey!" Stewart and the rest were about to jump in. But they stop. They see Onyx giving them a smile and waving his hand, signaling them not to worry.
"So gentle."
"Goddamn! Was he waving at me?"
"No! He was waving at me! Get your head in the game!"
And behind them, a bunch of female adventurers argue about who Onyx waved at.
"Why can't our captain be like that?" May blurts out. The rest of the girls nod to that as well.
"..." I'm right here, you know. Stewart has the darkest expression ever.
Back to Onyx, he turns to Slug. The only words that came out of him were,
"Let go." It's only an ordinary sentence for everyone. But not for Slug. His face turns pale!
He felt an enormous amount of pressure coming from those two words! It's something that shouldn't be coming off from any ordinary person. He even felt his amber eyes glow like a beast.
Out of instinct, Slug lets go of him.
"Good choice." Onyx doesn't say anything else as he walks back toward Stewart's group.
What did I just do? Slug realized what he did, and the paleness of his face went up one. He turns his head over to his captain.
His captain is still smiling. However, Slug knew. On the inside, his captain is furious about what he did.
You know what you have to do. That's the message Slug got as he looked at that smile.
His captain's wraith or some unknown guys? It's something even a kid could guess what he's about to do next.
"Ragghhh! You bastard!" Crazed by fear, Slug charges toward Onyx with his fist in the air. He's about to punch him. Everyone's surprised by the sudden change in the mood!
Besides that,
Onyx has his back turned to him as well! Shameless!
Onyx sighs, "You should have backed off when you had the chance." Instead of Onyx getting knocked out, Slug fell to the ground, causing a large sound.
"..." Silence.
"Is he ok?" One person said.
"What happened to him?" An adventurer walks over to Slug to check up on him. He's knocked out cold. His eyes rolled back, and he lost all motion on his face as he was drooling.
And the cause of this is the dent in his throat. A fist mark.
Onyx's fist.
"You shouldn't have done anything. You messed up." That's what Onyx says as he shakes his head.
Nobody could tell what happened. More like they couldn't believe what occurred. Slug just got knocked out without any effort at all!
"Did he just take out a D-rank adventurer?"
"No way. He wasn't even looking at him at all."
"He's standing with his back towards him. He couldn't do anything."
"Think again." Hearing what the people are saying, Lyle speaks up. They're surprised the leader of the Azure Wolves would speak up.
"Did you see what happened, Mr. Lyle?"
Lyle makes a wry smile, "I could only see it for the most part. But the guy swiveled his body and punched him in the throat."
"But he's only standing there." Right now, Onyx still has his back toward Slug. So how is he able to do something like that? They're all watching him as well.
"Fools. That's just how fast the guy did it." Lyle could feel his skin tingle when he saw it. Onyx's speed is surprising. But that isn't the key. It's how smooth he took out Slug that's so shocking.
One punch from him was enough to knock out Slug.
Even when I fought Slug: it took me some time to beat him. Lyle remembers the time he fought with SLug. Slug's power and endurance are high. Maybe at least C rank in terms of that.
Onyx took him out in a breeze. That just shows how strong he is. Some other adventurers notice what happened as well. He's not some ordinary guy.
Onyx doesn't realize people are already sizing him up. As he walks back to Stewart's group, a hand stops him from moving.
He's the captain of Slug's party.
"Do you really think you can walk away when you just knocked out my teammate? Who do you think you are?"
