CH2 (1)

—.. The story begins with the last priest on his final mission.

‘..Huh?

–..Being on the brink of destruction, the Church had no choice but to send its most distinguished priest…

‘..Who’s talking?’

Opening my eyes, I dazedly blinked at my surroundings, scrunching my eyebrows as I tried to understand the blurry outlines.

There was something floating on top of me, writing and speaking at the same time. It reminded me of a game, for some reason. Was I still sleeping? I squinted my eyes, trying to read it.

–.. to the scattered remnants of the south; to find the oracle child, the Hero that would slay the Demon King and save all of humanity.

‘..South? Florida? Oracle… Hero.. Like what that old woman was prattling about? The old woman..Right, I fell into..’

“A VOID!” My eyes shot wide open, heart palpitating as I slowly fell off something. Sun rays filled my vision as I kicked my feet up in the air and my back hitting the ground with a thud.

I quickly shot back up into a sitting position, my hands caressing the ground beneath me at the same time making sure it wasn’t crumbling. I looked around me in mad confusion.

A neigh of a horse. Two strangers beside the horse, covered head to toe in weird wrapped attire.

“Uh.. Mr. Priest, you doin' okay there?” The tall, skinny one said.

“What… Where.. Where the hell am I?”

The two of them shifted their bodies, looking at each other, then the shorter one looked back at me.

“You said you wanted to go to the village.. We’re almost there, sir Priest. Don’t worry, we would never lie to you! We are.. Good people, honest people!” The other shorter stranger reassured me.

–.. The Last Priest heads towards an isolated village of the south, untouched by the demonkinds forces guided by the bandits he had encountered. He hoped, praying to the dead God for the Hero child to be there.

“You bet! We would never sell you to them demon corps, not one bit of you’s, no sir!” The tall one drawled.

“...!” The short one suddenly exploded, hearing his companions' words, quickly turning around and kicking him. “You idiot!”

“Ah!” The tall one yelped. The two erupted into a comical dance, running in circles. The shorter one was faster on his feet, delivering kicks to the taller one whenever he caught up.

“..What?” I said, looking up at the text box. They froze.

“Ah..Sorry, sir Priest..” The shorter one apologized. “My brother is a little stupid. What he meant was–”

“What is this?” I interrupted, pointing above me, then pointed at them. “Who are you?”

They shifted their bodies again, looking at each other. The shorter one put his hands up to stop his brother from speaking. “Apologies, sir Priest.. I don’t understand what you mean?”

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

“This thing.. Floating on top of me..” I paused, hearing my voice sound different; heavier, deeper, like a mans. “Hold on, what the hell’s wrong with my voice?”

Then, the taller brother spoke up, side-eyeing his brother at the same time. “There ain't nothin’ wrong with yer voice, Mr.Priest!”

The shorter brother's mouth drooped at this, then suddenly smiled wide while patting his brother on the back. “Yea, yea that's right. It even sounds heavenly!”

Seeing his brother's approval and acknowledgement, he nodded and continued.“Yer voice sounds like an angel, Mr.Priest!”

“No!” I stopped them. “Why do I sound like a man?!”

They froze, then shifted their bodies towards each other again, looking at each other.

“Uh.. That's just how you was born, Mr.Priest!”

“No, no my brother meant that.. that's how god intended you to be! He is truly an enigmatic and…”

Their words began trailing off, becoming mumbles in the background as I began examining my body. I felt lighter, and heavier at the same time. I also felt.. hairy. I unbuttoned my shirt, and to my surprise there was no blob of fat.

“What the fuck!” I yelped. The two brothers staggered back upon hearing me yelp, holding each other as they cowered in fear.

“Please don't hurt us, Mr.Priest! We ain't mean nothin’ by it!”

“Nothing!”

“What did that old hag do?!” I began to undress myself, examining every inch and corner to make sure I wasn't daydreaming. Then I started pinching myself.

Unable to 'wake myself up', I stood back up, looking around my surroundings. The white horse had baggage on its side, with something long wrapped in cloth sticking out from the top.

I looked back down to the brothers, then questioned them. “Tell me, do you two know who the old hag is?”

The two began to cry even louder, causing a vein to pop on my forehead. I wanted to kick them.

“LISTEN TO ME AND STOP CRYING, YOU LITTLE FUCKS!” I yelled, causing them to freeze in silence. The tall brother continuously sniffed, while the other wiped his tears dry.

“We sincerely apologize, sir Priest. We really just..”

“I don't care!” I stopped him. “Just tell me, do you know who the old hag is?”

“Uh.. Old hag, sir Priest? I don't recall ever running into an old woman before.. Well, not with you..”

“Just.. Do you know an old woman?”

“No, sir Priest.. But we had a nana a long time ago..”

“A nana?”

The tall brother, still sniffing, replied back. “Yes, Mr.Priest. She was a sweet old woman, made us cornbread and all that…”

“Where is she now?”

“Well, well.. She gone now.. Died in her sleep, long time ago.. my brother discovered her..” He turned, glancing at his brother.

“Oh.. Well, I apologize, I didn’t mean to…” I paused, feeling bad. “But that's besides the point! Look, alright, this old woman..”

“..Yes..” They both nodded at the same time.

“She.. uh..”

“Mhm..” They nodded again.

“Shit.. I can’t recall it, uhh..”

“It’s ok Mr.Priest, it happens t’me too sometimes..”

“Take your time, sir Priest..” The shorter one added.

“Right! She said, I have to save a story! A world, or something! This must be that? But–”

Time suddenly froze, and a bright flashing red appeared on the text-box above me.

–.. The narrative is being continuously broken, shifting its intended path. Unfortunately, such a thing can’t happen, as it is not the fate of this world. And so,...

And then, a bright flash exploded from it, blinding me and covering my entire vision.

Mumble mumble.

“..What happened..” I muttered, slowly opening my eyes back up.
