On the subject of mechanical automata.

The people of Veridona have always fascinated me. Being a mage, I have been alive for a long time. I am rapidly approaching my third century in this life. It was only a century or two ago when the people of Veridona greatly left the magical arts, replacing them with subjects closer to the scientific studies. It fascinates me how they have managed to lift an entire kingdom from the earth. Veridona now resides in the skies. Great blimps filled with floating gasses. And giant propellers keeping the city in place. Without their science it would be close to impossible to pull such a feat. Even the strongest of our wind mages would struggle to keep such a city up. Throughout history many have tried. A city in the sky would be nearly impossible to attack. It would be isolated from the troubles of the world. And the engineers of Veridona have greatly achieved that impossible feat. But moving away from the city itself, I would like to briefly address the creatures and automata they have designed. There are creatures somewhere between living and dead material that have, for lack of better word. Evolved around the people of Veridona. Their sciences have changed the very biology of living things. Again, something that only great mages have managed to accomplish. But beyond the creatures of flesh and metal. There are beings, sentient, but not living. I am addressing the automata. With cores of magic, and bodies of science. These, I believe they call them robots. Can range from simple mechs and dumb laborers. all the way to, well, people. there are creatures supposedly without souls or living bodies, that can have feelings, thoughts, they can even fall in love. Many of the people of eldoria are disgusted or offended by such thoughts. I am simply fascinated by them. I do hope I can live another few centuries and observe what will come of these great and terrible inventions of the people of Veridona. Signed, Professor Jinx hailwater
